A missing playlist entry does not prove the video was deleted: it may be private or unlisted. If the archive is absent from Studio, look for a local recording; YouTube does not promise recovery of a stream that was deleted or never captured.
Check whether the stream archive still exists
- Sign in to the Google account that manages the correct YouTube channel.
- Open YouTube Studio > Content > Live and find the ended stream. Open its details to inspect the archive and its visibility. YouTube documents managing archived livestreams from this area: Archive live streams.
- If the archive appears, use its video link to confirm which recording it is before changing settings or sharing it.
If you are a viewer rather than the channel owner, ask the owner for the archive link or to confirm its visibility. You cannot watch a private video merely by having its old link.

Understand what the visibility setting means
A video can exist without appearing in the channel playlist or search. Check the archive’s visibility in Studio before concluding it is gone. YouTube’s guidance on livestream settings and older unlisted content explains these visibility behaviors: Manage live stream settings and Older unlisted content.
- Public: The archive is publicly viewable and can be discoverable on YouTube.
- Unlisted: People with the link can usually watch it, but it normally does not appear in the channel’s Videos tab or YouTube search. Ask the owner for the correct link.
- Private: Access is limited to the owner and people specifically granted permission. The owner must adjust access if they want others to watch it.
If the owner changes visibility, they should do so only if that matches their intended audience and privacy choices.

If the archive is missing from YouTube Studio
Check stream length
YouTube says it can automatically archive livestreams shorter than 12 hours. A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. This is platform guidance, not a guarantee that every shorter stream will be archived. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
Look for a local recording
Check the streaming computer’s configured recording folder, any external drive used during the broadcast, and any backup location. A local copy is useful only if recording was enabled and the resulting file is intact. YouTube recommends recording a local archive as a backup; its livestream tips also advise checking that the file is growing during the stream and verifying its integrity: YouTube live streaming tips.

Contact support if available
If neither the Studio archive nor a local copy is available, YouTube’s reviewed help materials do not describe a guaranteed way to restore a deleted or uncaptured stream. Creators with access to Creator Support can contact that team about a livestream archive, but recovery is not promised. The relevant guidance is in Archive live streams.
Do not confuse DVR or Live Redirect with archive recovery
DVR affects playback while a stream is live
YouTube DVR lets viewers pause and rewind a live stream. Rewind may be limited or unavailable for very long streams. Turning DVR off does not prevent a recording of the full stream from becoming available once it is ready, so DVR is not a fix for a missing post-stream archive. See Turn on DVR on live streams.

Live Redirect sends viewers elsewhere when a stream ends
Live Redirect can route viewers to a Premiere or another live stream; it does not restore a past VOD. YouTube says creators sending redirects need more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. Details: How to use YouTube Live Redirect.
Check for copyright or policy notices after an unexpected interruption
Third-party content may interrupt or terminate a livestream, and Content ID claims may be made after an archived stream ends. If the broadcast ended unexpectedly, check YouTube Studio for relevant notices. See Copyright issues with live streams.

Prevent losing the next gaming stream
- Enable local recording in your streaming software and confirm the save location has enough available space for the session.
- During the broadcast, verify the local file is growing; after the stream, confirm the recording opens and plays before clearing temporary files.
- Keep a separate backup copy on external storage or another backup location if the recording matters. Choose storage capacity based on your bitrate and how long you want to retain recordings; there is no one-size-fits-all capacity.
- For streams approaching YouTube’s 12-hour threshold, plan a way to preserve the broadcast locally rather than relying on automatic archiving alone.
