They have separate recovery routes. Resetting your Samsung account password will not remove the screen lock, and erasing the phone will not recover your account password.
Choose the recovery route for the credential you forgot

Recover a Samsung account password
Use Samsung’s account ID and password recovery instructions. Start with your account ID and choose “Forgot password?” The verification method offered depends on what you previously registered. Samsung’s India support guidance describes verification through the primary email, a security question, a registered recovery email, or a recovery phone. Options and phone-based recovery availability may differ by country.

Complete the verification steps Samsung presents, then set a new account password. This restores access to the Samsung account; it does not change or bypass the PIN, password, or pattern on the phone’s lock screen.

Try the previous screen lock before erasing the phone
If you recently changed your Galaxy screen lock, check for Samsung’s “Forgot PIN/password/pattern?” option before attempting a reset. Samsung says the feature applies to devices running One UI 6.1 or later when the lock was changed within the previous 72 hours and the former method was not deleted. The prompt appears after five unsuccessful attempts.
- After five failed attempts, check the lock screen for “Forgot PIN/password/pattern?”
- Select the option and enter the previous PIN, password, or pattern when prompted.
- If the former method is accepted, follow the on-screen steps to set a new screen lock.
Samsung India says the old method can be used once for each lock type and that three incorrect entries end further attempts. If the phone warns that no attempts remain, stop rather than continuing to guess. If the prompt does not appear, one or more eligibility conditions may not be met.

Prepare before a remote erase or factory reset
Resetting the phone is a last resort when you cannot unlock it. A remote erase or factory data reset removes personal data stored on the device; Samsung warns that erased information may not be recoverable. Before proceeding, check whether you have a current backup and make sure you can sign in to the Google account previously used on the phone. Google Factory Reset Protection (FRP) may require that account during setup after a reset, particularly when the reset was performed outside the phone’s Settings menu.

- Confirm that losing local data is acceptable or that important data is backed up.
- Make sure you know the Google account previously registered on the phone and can access it.
- Check which account and service are required for the reset route you plan to use.
- Use Samsung’s live instructions for your exact model; button sequences and wording vary by device and software version.
Erase a locked phone remotely, if the service was configured
Remote erase may be available through SmartThings Find or Google Find My Device, but it depends on the device and service setup. Samsung’s lost-device guidance lists requirements for Samsung Find or SmartThings Find that include the phone being powered on and connected to a network, a Samsung account on the device, and remote controls enabled. A device that is offline may not receive a remote action until it reconnects. Google’s option likewise depends on the device meeting Google’s service requirements.

Use the relevant official service to locate the device and choose its erase option if available. An erase deletes local data; it is not a way to retrieve the screen-lock credential. For current steps and eligibility details, consult Samsung’s guidance for finding or managing a Galaxy device and Samsung’s lock-screen troubleshooting instructions.
Use a recovery reset only when other options fail
If you cannot use the previous-lock option or a configured remote service, Samsung’s support instructions describe reset routes, including recovery-menu procedures for supported devices. The exact sequence differs by model, so do not rely on a generic button combination; follow Samsung’s instructions for your specific phone. A recovery-menu reset erases the device and can trigger Google account verification. Depending on Android version, setup may also ask for the former screen-lock credential.

If you cannot complete the required verification after reset, Samsung advises contacting support or an authorized service center. Do not treat third-party bypass tools as an official or dependable recovery method.

A forgotten credential is different from a screen that cannot register touches. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance mentions connecting a USB mouse and keyboard through an adapter for some cracked-screen situations. That addresses input on a damaged screen; it does not recover a forgotten password or remove a lock.
