To recover a lost password in Windows 11 using Google Password Manager, first check whether you mean a saved website or app password, your Google Account password, your Windows sign-in password, or a Windows Hello PIN. Google Password Manager can show a password saved for a site or app; it cannot reset the password or PIN you use to sign in to Windows.
Identify which password or PIN you forgot
These credentials have different recovery routes. A password saved for a website is not the same as the password for the Google Account that stores it, and neither is the same as a Windows sign-in credential.

| Credential you need | Where recovery starts | What may be needed |
|---|---|---|
| Saved website or app password | Google Password Manager in Chrome or passwords.google.com | The password must have been saved to your Google Account or to that Chrome installation |
| Google Account password | Google Account recovery | Google’s account-ownership checks and recovery details |
| Microsoft-account password used for Windows | Windows sign-in screen or Microsoft’s password-reset flow | Microsoft identity verification |
| Local Windows account password | Windows sign-in screen | Previously configured security questions, a reset disk made in advance, or another administrator account |
| Windows Hello PIN | Windows sign-in screen or Settings | For “I forgot my PIN,” a Microsoft account; otherwise sign in with the account password and reset the PIN in Settings |
Find a website or app password in Google Password Manager
If the forgotten password is for a website or app—not Windows sign-in—open Chrome and select More > Passwords and autofill > Google Password Manager. You can also go to passwords.google.com in a browser. Google Password Manager stores saved website and app passwords and passkeys, and Google says saved passwords can be managed in Chrome or at that address. See Google’s instructions for managing passwords in Chrome.

Make sure you are using the Google Account where the password was saved. Google distinguishes passwords saved to a Google Account from passwords saved only on a device. A password stored locally in one Chrome installation may not appear on another device.

Recover the Google Account password if you cannot open Password Manager
If you forgot the password for the Google Account that holds your saved passwords, use Google’s account-recovery flow. Answer the ownership questions as accurately as you can. If Google verifies that you can recover the account, choose a strong password you have not previously used for that account. Work or school accounts may require help from the account administrator.
Google says incorrect guesses do not remove you from the recovery process. It also warns against outside services claiming to recover accounts or passwords: Google Account Help states, “We don’t work with any service that claims to provide account or password support.” Do not share your password or verification codes with anyone offering recovery help.

Reset a local Windows account password
For a local account, select the password sign-in option at the Windows sign-in screen. After entering a wrong password, choose OK > Reset password, then answer the security questions configured for that account. If you created a password reset disk before being locked out, you can use it instead. Microsoft describes these routes in its guide to changing or resetting a local account password in Windows.
A reset disk is a USB flash drive that must be prepared while signed in to the local account; having a USB drive after lockout does not make it a reset disk. Microsoft’s instructions for creating a local-account password reset disk explain the advance setup. If you have no configured recovery option and no other administrator account, Microsoft says resetting the device may be necessary.
