For a straightforward video, open Camera, choose Video and tap Record. For more control over a clip’s microphone or manual camera settings, use Pro Video if your Galaxy model offers it. For audio without video, open Voice Recorder. Menu names and feature availability vary by model, software version and region.
Choose the right way to record

Record a video with the standard Camera mode
- Open the Camera app.
- Select Video. If the option is not visible, check the available camera modes on your model.
- Frame the shot and tap Record.
- Tap the stop control when finished, then review the clip in Gallery.
Samsung describes regular Video mode as automatically adjusting shooting options. Use it when you want to capture a clip without manually setting exposure or selecting an audio input.

Use Pro Video when you need more control
If your phone includes Pro Video, open Camera > More > Pro Video. Depending on the model and software, the mode may provide manual controls for exposure-related settings, focus and white balance. Samsung notes that mode names and availability vary across Galaxy phones and software.

On supported phones, open the microphone control in Pro Video to choose an input suited to the scene. Samsung Support describes the feature this way: “Your Galaxy phone’s Pro Video feature allows you to adjust the microphone when filming to get the best audio possible.” Its U.S. compatibility list names the Note20 5G and Note20 Ultra 5G, Z Flip and Z Fold series, and S21, S22 and S23 series. That list is not a guarantee for every model in a family or every region; confirm support on the exact handset.

Where offered, adjust the input level with the decibel slider. Directional choices can help prioritize sound from one side, while a compatible external microphone may be useful when the speaker is farther from the phone. A USB-C connection alone does not establish compatibility: check your phone’s support and the microphone’s connector or adapter requirements. Samsung’s guidance confirms input types on supported devices, not support for any particular third-party microphone.
Make a short test before an important recording
- Choose the microphone direction or external input you intend to use.
- Record a brief sample in the same position and environment as the planned video.
- Play it back and check that the intended speaker is clear and that the chosen input is active.
- If the audio is wrong, try a built-in microphone option or disconnect and reconnect the accessory, then make another sample.
Record a voice memo
Open Voice Recorder, select a recording mode if your app offers one, and start recording. On the Galaxy S9+, Samsung’s manual documents controls to pause, bookmark, stop and save a recording. Those exact controls are an older, model-specific example, so follow the labels shown in your version of Voice Recorder.

If your phone offers speech-to-text recording, Samsung’s S9+ manual says it works best with the phone near your mouth in a quiet place, clear and loud speech, and the matching language selected. Transcription options and language support may differ on newer devices.
Use Zoom-in mic or 360 audio only when supported
Zoom-in mic
Samsung describes Zoom-in mic as increasing sound as you zoom while filming. On supported phones, look under Camera settings > Advanced video options; the route differs on S25 devices with One UI 7. Check the options on your specific phone because availability and menu paths can change. Samsung’s camera guidance also says Super steady is for the rear camera only. Its India guidance notes that prolonged video zoom can reduce quality to prevent overheating and that optical zoom may not work in low light; these are model-dependent limitations, not universal outcomes.

360 audio recording
Samsung says 360 audio recording requires One UI 5 or later. Its compatibility list, stated in June 2025, includes Galaxy Buds3 Pro, Buds3 and Buds2 Pro, plus selected S23, S24 and S25 phones and Z Fold4/5/6 and Z Flip4/5/6 models. Both the compatible earbuds and phone capture audio. Activating 360 audio recording disables Zoom-in mic, so choose between the two features rather than expecting them to work together. Fix microphone problems
- Make a short recording in Voice Recorder or Camera, then play it back to check whether the phone’s microphone works in a Samsung app.
- If audio is fine in those apps but not in another app or with an accessory, check the connected accessory or downloaded app. Samsung identifies either as a possible cause when the built-in test recording sounds normal.
- If the device is wet, dry its exterior with a soft cloth and let it air-dry. Do not use compressed air to clean the microphone.
- Try another short recording after the device is dry or after changing the suspected accessory or app. For further steps, consult Samsung’s microphone troubleshooting guide.
