How to Rebroadcast a Prerecorded Event on YouTube Live Continuously

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To rebroadcast a prerecorded event as a continuous YouTube Live stream, send the video through a live encoder connected to YouTube, then configure the encoder’s video source or playlist to repeat. A YouTube watch-page replay is not a live broadcast. With a local setup, the computer, encoder, power and internet connection must stay available; a cloud service can handle the playout instead.

How a prerecorded video becomes a live stream

YouTube Live receives a feed from an encoder. The encoder plays your event file and sends its audio and video to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key. Viewers then watch a live broadcast, rather than an uploaded video being replayed from its watch page.

YouTube’s encoder workflow supports sending a live feed, but its published guidance does not provide a universal instruction for looping a file. Repeat playback, playlist transitions and recovery behavior depend on the encoder or service you choose. Check its current instructions and test the complete setup before relying on it for an event.

Before you start: eligibility, rights and duration

Confirm your channel can go live

YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well ahead of the event. YouTube’s interface and requirements can change; check Live Control Room before production.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Clear rights for the entire program

You are responsible for having the rights needed to rebroadcast the video, performances, music and other included material for the planned live and archived uses. YouTube’s livestream terms explicitly include music licensing rights. A recording being available to you does not itself grant permission to rebroadcast it. YouTube also requires live content to follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.

Repetitive or mass-produced content can affect monetization eligibility. YouTube’s policy update dated July 15, 2025 clarified this under its inauthentic-content policy. That monetization rule does not mean every repeated event broadcast is automatically prohibited; assess both the content and the applicable platform rules.

Plan around long-stream limits

  • YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived at all. Do not rely on the platform to preserve a continuous broadcast recording.
  • DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable on very long streams, including streams beyond 12 hours.
  • YouTube’s current live-stream guidance sets simultaneous limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key. These limits matter if you plan multiple concurrent broadcasts.

Set up a continuous rebroadcast with a local encoder

  1. Enable live streaming and verify access. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and confirm that the channel is eligible and live streaming is enabled. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
  2. Create or schedule the broadcast. In Live Control Room, create a new stream or schedule the event. Copy the stream URL and stream key for the encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
  3. Prepare the event file. Use the recording you have rights to rebroadcast. Check the opening and ending, audio levels, picture and any credits or notices you need. If you intend to play more than one item, prepare the playlist and confirm the order and transitions in the encoder.
  4. Load the video into your encoder. Add the file as the media source or playlist, then enable repeat or loop playback using that encoder’s own controls. YouTube does not prescribe a universal loop setting, so check the software or hardware maker’s current instructions. Confirm that playback returns to the beginning and that a playlist advances as expected.
  5. Connect the encoder to YouTube. Enter the stream URL and key in the encoder’s YouTube destination settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Keep the key private and avoid exposing it in recordings, screenshots or public messages.
  6. Choose output settings that your connection can sustain. YouTube’s published H.264 settings for 1080p at 30 fps list 5 Mbps as the minimum bitrate and 14 Mbps as recommended. Those are encoder bitrate settings, not proof that an internet connection with the same upload speed will be sufficient. YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; leave that margin above the stream’s bitrate and account for other traffic on the connection. Choose settings appropriate to the actual connection rather than treating a recommended bitrate as a guarantee.
  7. Preview and test before going public. Start the encoder and check the preview in Live Control Room. Confirm picture, sound, loop behavior and stream health. Check the watch page on desktop and mobile, and monitor audio and video continuously during the broadcast. Run a full test long enough to exercise the repeat or playlist transition you will depend on.
  8. Keep the local setup operating. For a local encoder, the host computer, encoder process, power and upload connection all need to remain available. Plan who will monitor the stream and who can restart the encoder or address a network or power failure. YouTube recommends stopping the encoder when the event has ended.

What to verify before and during the event

  • Playback: the file starts at the intended point, repeats without stopping, and playlist items transition correctly.
  • Audio and picture: speech and music are audible without clipping, and the picture remains stable in the Live Control Room preview and on the watch page.
  • Connection: the upload connection has the headroom YouTube recommends, with other household or office traffic considered.
  • Operations: someone can see stream-health warnings and respond if the computer, encoder or connection stops.
  • Duration: viewers know whether the stream is intended to be continuous and whether a replay or DVR rewind should be expected; streams beyond 12 hours may not be archived and may have limited DVR rewind.

Troubleshooting common failures

The stream will not start

Check that live streaming is enabled for the channel, that the stream is scheduled or active in Live Control Room, and that the encoder has the correct stream URL and key. If live streaming was enabled for the first time recently, activation may take up to 24 hours. Keep the stream key private; if you suspect it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.

The video stops instead of looping

The encoder’s media source may not have repeat enabled, or its playlist may have reached the end without a repeat rule. Confirm the setting in that encoder’s current documentation, then test a complete playback-to-repeat transition before the event.

The picture or audio stutters

Check the encoder’s outgoing bitrate against the real upload capacity and competing network traffic. YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. If the connection cannot sustain the chosen output, reduce the encoder settings to a level it can maintain and retest the preview and stream health.

The broadcast stops unexpectedly

With a local encoder, investigate whether the computer slept or shut down, the encoder process ended, power was interrupted, or the internet connection failed. Keep the computer awake and powered, monitor the encoder and connection, and have a person ready to restart the feed. A local workflow depends on those components staying available; YouTube’s encoder guidance is not a guarantee of indefinite uptime.

There is no archive or rewind

For streams longer than 12 hours, YouTube says archiving may not happen at all, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable. If retaining a recording or allowing rewind is important, do not assume a very long live broadcast will provide either; plan a separate recording or shorter broadcast segments.
