To read a TCS earnings release, first identify the fiscal period and accounting basis; then compare revenue on matching time and currency terms, check margin footnotes, treat total contract value (TCV) as a demand indicator rather than current revenue, and distinguish management commentary from a numeric forecast. In the latest reported quarter as of October 4, 2026, Q1 FY27, TCS reported US$7,624 million in revenue and a 24.0% operating margin excluding an exceptional item.
Start with the period and accounting basis
Confirm both the quarter and the date the results were released before interpreting a number. TCS labels its fiscal quarters April–June (Q1), July–September (Q2), October–December (Q3), and January–March (Q4). Its investor calendar lists Q1 FY27, the quarter ended June 30, 2026, as released July 9, 2026. TCS investor relations provides the company’s financial information and explains that TCS adopted Ind AS effective April 1, 2016.

Keep accounting basis visible when comparing periods: the Q1 FY27 release presents consolidated results according to IFRS, while the FY26 release states Ind AS and IFRS. Read revenue growth on matching terms
Revenue is the amount of business recorded during a period. A growth percentage is meaningful only when its comparison period and currency basis are clear. Year-over-year growth compares a quarter with the same quarter a year earlier; sequential growth compares it with the immediately preceding quarter. Reported US-dollar changes can differ from constant-currency changes because exchange-rate movements affect translated values.
#1 Best Overall
In Q1 FY27, TCS reported revenue of US$7,624 million: up 2.7% year over year in US dollars, flat sequentially in US dollars, and up 0.4% sequentially in constant currency. These are distinct comparisons, not competing descriptions of one growth rate. The figures are in the Q1 FY27 results release.
Full-year and quarter figures answer different questions. TCS FY26 revenue was US$30,017 million, down 0.5% year over year in US dollars and down 2.4% in constant currency. In Q4 FY26, revenue was US$7,621 million, up 1.5% sequentially in dollars and 1.2% sequentially in constant currency. Those FY26 and Q4 FY26 figures are reported by TCS in its Q4/FY26 results release. Do not compare a full-year rate with a quarterly rate as if they covered the same interval.

Check what the operating margin includes
Operating margin expresses operating profit as a share of revenue. It helps show profitability, but the stated treatment of one-offs or exceptional items matters. TCS reported a Q1 FY27 operating margin of 24.0%, excluding an exceptional item. For FY26, it reported a 25% operating margin, up 70 basis points year over year and excluding one-offs. Each figure belongs to a different reporting period and has its own qualification; keep both beside the number when discussing them. TCS provides these details in its Q1 FY27 and Q4/FY26 releases.
Use TCV and deal announcements as demand indicators
TCV, or total contract value, is the value of contracts awarded as reported by TCS. It can indicate the scale of new commitments, but it is not revenue recognized in the quarter. Contract work may be delivered and recognized over time, so adding TCV to quarterly revenue would mix different measures.
Rank #3
TCS reported Q1 FY27 TCV of US$9.5 billion and announced an US$800 million AI-led business transformation deal with SKF. For context, it reported Q4 FY26 TCV of US$12 billion and FY26 TCV of US$40.7 billion. The FY26 release also reported three mega deals in Q4 and five for the full year. All of these are TCS-reported contract and deal measures, not a guarantee of when revenue will appear. See the company’s Q1 FY27 and Q4/FY26 releases.
For a fuller read on demand, consider TCV alongside reported revenue, client additions across revenue bands, and whether awarded work is subsequently delivered. A headline deal is informative about a contract award; by itself, it does not establish quarterly revenue growth.

Separate management outlook from formal guidance
Management commentary describes how executives view conditions and the business. In the Q1 FY27 release, CEO and Managing Director K Krithivasan said: “Q1 FY27 reflects continued growth momentum and the strength of our strategic positioning, despite geopolitical and macro-economic headwinds.” The release also discusses customer technology investment and strategic positioning. This is qualitative outlook, not a numeric revenue or margin forecast. The Q1 FY27 material does not establish numeric forward revenue or margin guidance. See the TCS Q1 FY27 results release.
