To improve the chance that an LLM can understand and surface your company, combine that direct publishing with relevant third-party coverage. These are complementary communications tactics, not a guarantee of visibility in AI-generated answers.
Start with the audience, not a viral format
A popular format is not automatically a good way to reach your customers. Copying a trend can bring attention from people who are unlikely to understand or want the product, especially if the format does not suit the company’s voice.

First identify the audience you want to reach and the places they already look for useful information. Then choose one or two channels that fit both that audience and the founder’s strengths. Video, podcasting, and writing are possible approaches; the right choice is the one the team can sustain while offering genuine value.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

It also creates more public information for LLM-powered search interfaces to interpret. More content alone does not ensure that an LLM will mention a company, so treat this as a reason to explain the business clearly—not as a volume target.
#1 Best Overall
Make the company easy to describe
Write a concise one-line description in plain language: what the company does and, where useful, for whom. Reuse that description on the website, blog, social profiles, relevant community platforms, and in interviews. The aim is not to make every page identical; it is to avoid describing the same business in ways that appear to conflict.
Product Hunt author Lindsay Amos points to Partiful’s “Plan events in seconds” as an example of a short, understandable description. She contrasts it with jargon-heavy descriptions of Indy Cloud and Nimbus. The useful distinction is whether a person outside the company can quickly understand the offer, not whether the wording sounds technical or sophisticated.
Rank #2
Review public-facing copy for unexplained acronyms, broad claims, and terminology that means different things to different readers. If a technical term is necessary, explain it in familiar language nearby. As Amos puts it, “Mixed or inconsistent messages confuse people — and confuse AI.”

Direct channels let a company explain its product in its own words. Examples include a blog, videos, podcasts, webinars, events, Discord, and social posts. They are useful for answering customer questions and maintaining a clear account of what the company does.
Journalists, creators, and influencers can extend that reach and add third-party context or validation. Relevant coverage may also contribute information that LLMs surface, but an appearance in media does not guarantee citation or recommendation. Amos cites a Muck Rack report as finding that 27% of links cited by AI came from journalistic sources; the Product Hunt article does not specify the report’s year, sample, or methodology. It also attributes an “up to 18%” figure for AI-cited links from YouTube to Profound, without giving the underlying study’s date, sample, or methodology. Neither figure establishes a universal ranking rule.
For outreach, connect the company’s news to a wider reason people may care: a cultural shift, a timely problem, or an effect beyond the company itself. Research a reporter’s or creator’s actual work and beat before contacting them. A few relevant, tailored approaches are more useful than sending the same pitch widely to people who do not cover the subject.
“It’s not ‘go direct’ or nothing,” Amos writes. Direct publishing and earned media serve different purposes: one builds a company’s own explanations, while the other can bring an outside audience and perspective.

A practical way to put the advice to work
- Name the audience and need. Be specific about whom the product serves and what problem or task it addresses.
- Choose a sustainable channel or two. Prioritize places your audience uses and formats your team can produce well, rather than trying to be everywhere.
- Write and standardize a plain-language description. Use it across public profiles and company materials, checking that each version communicates the same basic offer.
- Publish answers people can use. Create material that explains the product, its use, or the relevant problem instead of chasing reach for its own sake.
- Develop a timely story for outside coverage. Explain why the news matters beyond the company, identify people who cover that subject, and tailor each pitch to their work.
These recommendations come from Lindsay Amos’s Product Hunt article, published August 3, 2025. They are her communications advice and attributed examples, not a controlled test of which tactics make LLMs cite a company.
