Complete The Ancient Spires, then follow The Flame’s Hunter Becomes The Hunted objective to Ancient Vault – Hunter in the Springlands. The vault is east of the Springlands Spire. Inside, you must pass guarded rooms, electric traps, lava jumps, climbing sections and switch puzzles before reaching the sleeping Hunter. Interact with her Cinder Vessel, return to your base and use a Summoning Staff to bring Athalan Skree home as a survivor and craftsperson.
There is no separately documented key for the outside entrance. The progression gate is the quest prerequisite; the remaining locks are environmental puzzles inside the sealed Ancient building.

Ancient Vault – Hunter: the route at a glance
The Hunter vault is one of the Springlands’ sealed Ancient buildings. Use the quest marker rather than trying to navigate by an unverified coordinate: the destination appears on the map as Ancient Vault – Hunter, east of the Springlands Spire.

1. Finish the prerequisite quest first
Hunter Becomes The Hunted is gated behind The Ancient Spires. If the Hunter objective is missing, the most likely reason is that the prerequisite has not been completed. Finish the Ancient Spires progression before spending time searching the Springlands for an entrance.

Confirm the correct objective
At the Flame, look for the objective Find The Hunter. Its destination should read Ancient Vault – Hunter. This is the reliable identification check because other Ancient Vaults can look similar from a distance and are associated with different survivors.
Why the quest marker matters
The available information identifies the region and its relation to Springlands Spire, but not a verified set of map coordinates. Set the quest as active and let the marker guide the final approach. If the marker is not visible, open the quest log, select Hunter Becomes The Hunted, and make sure Find The Hunter is the tracked objective.

Use Springlands Spire as your landmark
- Travel to the Springlands Spire.
- With Hunter Becomes The Hunted tracked, move east while watching the map marker.
- Look for the sealed Ancient structure at the marked destination and enter through its available opening.
The east-of-the-Spire description is a regional orientation, not a replacement for the marker. Terrain, discovered map coverage and your current route can make a straight-line approach impractical, so follow the marker’s position rather than forcing a direct path.
Prepare before crossing the threshold
Ancient Vault – Hunter combines combat and traversal. A short preparation prevents a failed run from turning into a long return trip.
- Carry enough healing and food for several guarded rooms and movement attempts.
- Bring a weapon suitable for enemies in enclosed spaces, where backing away may be limited.
- Keep ranged ammunition available for targets that are awkward to reach from a ledge.
- Leave inventory space for the chests documented along the route.
- Make sure you can use the traversal tools required by the route you have already unlocked, especially for grappling and climbing sections.
The vault’s rescue interaction is separate from the later base summoning step. You can complete the interior rescue first, but you will still need a Summoning Staff when you return home.
3. Understand the vault’s interior hazards
Ancient Vaults are sealed Ancient buildings rather than ordinary open ruins. The Hunter vault expects you to alternate between fighting, looking for a route upward and reading the room for a switch or traversal clue.

Guards and narrow combat spaces
Engage guards before committing to a jump or climb. A hit during a traversal animation can send you into a lower section or a hazard, while rushing past enemies can leave them behind you when you reach a dead end. Clear a room, then inspect its exits from a safe position.
Electric traps
Electric hazards can occupy the obvious walkway or the landing zone after a jump. Pause at each platform and identify the next safe surface before moving. If a route appears to require crossing an active trap, look for an alternate ledge, switch or climbing surface rather than assuming the hazard must be tanked.
Lava jumps
Lava sections test timing and landing accuracy. Line up the next platform, wait for a clear movement window and jump from the edge with enough space to correct your direction. A missed jump may return you to a previous platform, but it can also force a repeat of nearby hazards, so do not sprint through an unfamiliar sequence.
Climbing routes
Vertical sections are part of the intended route. Check walls, trellises and ledges when the floor appears to end. Climb only after enemies near the landing area are under control; reaching the top does not help if a guard immediately knocks you back down.

Switches can control doors or open the next part of the route. Treat each room as a navigation problem: inspect the whole space, note reachable platforms and identify whether a switch is visible from the current floor or requires a climb or grapple.
4. Open the documented three-switch door
Where it is
A three-switch door is documented on the ground floor of the Hunter vault. A gold chest is behind it, making the door an optional loot objective rather than the only condition for reaching the survivor.

What is confirmed—and what is not
The room contains three switches associated with the door. A verified activation order has not been established, so do not rely on an internet list that claims a specific sequence unless you can verify it in your own version of the game. The safe approach is to inspect the room and operate the switches while observing the door and any environmental response.
A practical way to work the puzzle
- Clear nearby guards so you can test switches without being interrupted.
- Walk the ground floor and locate all three switch points before activating them.
- Check for sight lines, raised platforms or markings that connect a switch to the door.
- Activate a switch, then look at the door and surrounding mechanism for a visible change.
- Repeat for the remaining switches, returning to any that appear unchanged if the door does not open.
- Once the door opens, collect the gold chest and continue with the main route.
This method deliberately avoids claiming an unverified sequence. If a switch appears inaccessible, the answer is usually a movement route elsewhere in the room—such as a climb or grapple—not a hidden key item.

After the lower sections and their movement puzzles, continue through the vault until you reach the chamber containing the sleeping survivor. The route can require switching between the main floor, elevated ledges and climbing surfaces; use the room layout rather than assuming the most prominent doorway is the final path.
Grapple route above the temple
A grapple point in the Hunter’s chamber leads to a room on top of the temple. A silver chest is located there. This route is optional loot: it is worth taking if you have the required traversal capability and want to search the vault thoroughly, but it is not the rescue interaction itself.
Hidden outer door and lower walkway
Another optional route begins at the outer stone walkway. Drop from the walkway to the grass and look beside the climbing trellis for a concealed door. The hallway beyond contains another silver chest. Because the route involves a deliberate drop, check the landing area first and avoid falling into a hazard or leaving the vault’s intended boundary.
Chest outside the temple
A wooden chest is listed outside the temple, up a ladder. Search the exterior approach and nearby elevated surfaces before leaving; this chest is separate from the gold chest behind the three-switch door and the silver chests on the optional routes.

6. Rescue Athalan Skree
Find the Cinder Vessel
The main objective ends at the sleeping Hunter. Approach the survivor and interact with the Cinder Vessel. That interaction rescues Athalan Skree; opening optional chests is not a substitute for it.
Check that the rescue registered
After interacting with the vessel, verify that the quest objective advances before leaving. If the objective does not change, move close enough to the vessel for the interaction prompt, complete the interaction again if the game presents it, and confirm that you are at the Hunter’s chamber rather than an adjacent loot room.
7. Summon the Hunter at your base
Rescuing Athalan does not automatically place her in your settlement. Return to your base and use a Summoning Staff, which the quest requires for the post-rescue summon.
- Leave Ancient Vault – Hunter after the Cinder Vessel interaction has registered.
- Return to a base where you want the survivor to live and work.
- Use the Summoning Staff at the base according to the game’s survivor-summoning interface.
- Confirm Athalan Skree’s arrival and assign her to the base area where you want her crafting support.
Once summoned, Athalan becomes available as a base survivor and craftsperson. The staff requirement is part of the unlock chain, so carrying out the rescue without later using the staff leaves the process incomplete.
What Athalan Skree unlocks
Athalan is the Hunter survivor. Her role focuses on hunting and the crafting branches connected with it, including tanning, weaving, arrows and ranged-oriented equipment. The practical benefit is access to hunter crafting support at a base after she has been rescued and summoned.

- Hunter’s chamber: use the grapple point to reach the room on top of the temple and its silver chest.
- Outer stone walkway: drop to the grass, find the hidden door beside the climbing trellis and follow the hallway to another silver chest.
- Temple exterior: climb the ladder to the wooden chest outside.
- Survivor chamber: interact with the Cinder Vessel to rescue Athalan.
Troubleshooting common progression problems
The Hunter quest is not available
Return to the prerequisite: complete The Ancient Spires. Then check The Flame’s quest list for Hunter Becomes The Hunted and select Find The Hunter. Searching the vault before that objective is active can make the destination and progression unclear.
The map does not show the vault
Track the correct quest and use the marker. The documented location is in the Springlands east of Springlands Spire, but no verified coordinate is required to reach it when the marker is active. If another quest is tracked, the map may be displaying a different destination.
The entrance seems sealed
Ancient buildings are sealed structures, but the quest marker identifies the intended vault. Confirm that the building is labeled Ancient Vault – Hunter and that Find The Hunter is active. Do not assume a different nearby Ancient ruin is the Hunter entrance.
The three-switch door will not open
Make sure all three switches have been located on the ground floor and inspect the room for a movement route to any switch that is not reachable from the initial position. Because an authoritative activation order is not documented, avoid resetting your run around a guessed sequence. Observe the door after each activation and recheck switches whose state is unclear.
The survivor interaction is missing
Continue beyond the loot rooms until you reach the sleeping survivor’s chamber. The required interaction is with the Hunter’s Cinder Vessel. Being near a chest, grapple point or exterior hallway does not complete the rescue.
Athalan is rescued but not at the base
The rescue and the summon are two separate actions. Return to your base and use a Summoning Staff. Until that step is completed, Athalan will not be available there as a survivor and craftsperson.

If you are deciding which survivor objective to pursue, compare vaults using the same practical criteria rather than their names alone.

Ancient Vaults generally contain one craftsperson and may combine guarded interiors with traps. The Hunter vault follows that pattern, but its exact switch arrangement should be learned from the room rather than copied from an unverified order.
Fast completion plan
- Complete The Ancient Spires.
- At The Flame, activate Hunter Becomes The Hunted and track Find The Hunter.
- Travel to the Springlands Spire and follow the marker east to Ancient Vault – Hunter.
- Prepare for guards, electric traps, lava jumps, climbing and switches.
- Optionally open the three-switch door and search the grapple, hidden-door and ladder chest routes.
- Reach the sleeping Hunter and interact with the Cinder Vessel.
- Return to your base and use a Summoning Staff.
- Use Athalan’s hunter specialty for tanning, weaving, arrows and ranged-oriented equipment.
The Bottom Line
To unlock the Hunter in Enshrouded, finish The Ancient Spires, follow Hunter Becomes The Hunted to Ancient Vault – Hunter east of Springlands Spire, rescue Athalan Skree at her Cinder Vessel, and summon her at your base with a Summoning Staff. The three-switch door is an optional ground-floor puzzle with a gold chest; its activation order is not reliably documented, so solve it by inspecting the room and observing each switch.
