A 24/7 YouTube stream can help a channel build an audience, but it is not a shortcut or a guarantee of reaching 1,000 subscribers. For full ad-revenue eligibility, YouTube currently requires 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 eligible public watch hours in the previous 12 months or 10 million eligible Shorts views in the previous 90 days. A nonstop broadcast also presents a watch-hour risk: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, while longer streams may not be captured. Plan public broadcasts in shorter segments, check that each becomes a public video, and track progress in YouTube Studio’s Earn tab. YouTube Partner Program overview and eligibility
What 1,000 subscribers does—and does not—qualify you for
Subscriber count is only one part of YouTube Partner Program (YPP) eligibility. The current full-ad-revenue route is 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 eligible public watch hours from long-form videos and public livestreams in the prior 12 months, or 10 million eligible public Shorts views in the prior 90 days. Shorts Feed watch time does not count toward the 4,000-hour route. Check your channel’s Earn tab and the current YPP eligibility page for the rules that apply when you apply.
YouTube also describes an earlier-access tier for some monetization features: 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the previous 90 days, and either 3,000 eligible watch hours in 365 days or 3 million eligible Shorts views in 90 days. That tier is not the same as full ad-revenue eligibility; YouTube lists Watch Page Ads, Shorts Feed Ads, and YouTube Premium revenue at the 1,000-subscriber tier. Feature availability can vary, so consult YouTube’s monetization features page.
Meeting the numbers does not guarantee acceptance. Applicants must comply with monetization policies, live in a place where YPP is available, have no active Community Guidelines strikes, enable 2-Step Verification, have access to advanced features, and link or create an AdSense for YouTube account through Studio. YouTube reviews a channel after application. The current rules apply in India through YouTube’s region-availability framework; the 2018 Google India announcement of the 1,000-subscriber and 4,000-hour threshold is historical context, not a separate current India-only rule. YouTube’s current eligibility page also announces a threshold change effective February 1, 2027. Because this guide is dated October 3, 2026, verify the live Earn tab and help page before relying on thresholds after that date.

Will watch time from a public livestream count?
Eligible watch time from a public livestream can contribute to the long-form public watch-hour route when the stream is converted to a public video (VOD). It is not automatic: YouTube excludes livestreams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD. Watch hours generated through ad campaigns and watch time from the Shorts Feed also do not count toward the 4,000-hour requirement. See the YPP eligibility rules.
The practical test is not simply whether viewers watched while you were live. After each broadcast, confirm that the replay exists, is public, and remains available. Then check the Earn tab to see how YouTube is crediting eligible progress. Do not assume every view or every hour shown in a live analytics panel will count toward YPP.

Why a single 24-hour stream can undermine the watch-hour plan
YouTube’s help pages say broadcasts under 12 hours are automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. As a result, one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast may leave you without a complete public VOD, jeopardizing the watch hours you hoped to preserve. The archive limit is described in YouTube’s guidance on encoder streams and live-stream archives.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Use shorter public segments
- Schedule a public stream shorter than 12 hours. Leave a margin rather than aiming to end exactly at the limit. For a channel built around continuous programming, plan successive broadcasts instead of relying on one endless event.
- End the broadcast cleanly. Check YouTube Studio and the public channel or watch page for the resulting replay.
- Keep the replay public and available. Avoid deleting it or changing it to unlisted if you are relying on its eligible watch time.
- Verify progress in Earn. Review the eligible watch-hour total there instead of treating a long runtime or raw live-view count as proof of YPP progress.
Shorter segments reduce the risk created by the archive window, but do not guarantee that every hour qualifies or that a channel will be accepted into YPP.

Design a stream people have a reason to return to
YouTube’s eligibility rules explain how qualifying activity is counted; they do not establish that a 24/7 stream reliably gains subscribers. There is no official success rate, typical timeline, or subscriber-conversion figure for this strategy. Treat the stream as a format to develop and measure, not as a guaranteed growth mechanism.
- Give the stream a clear viewer purpose. Choose programming that makes sense to leave on or return to, rather than looping unrelated material without context.
- Make the channel recognizable. Use a readable title and description that accurately explain what is playing and when the stream changes or repeats.
- Plan for moderation. Decide how you will monitor chat and handle spam or harmful comments, especially if the stream is unattended for long periods.
- Use material you have rights to use. A livestream or replay can still face copyright claims or other policy action. Having a file or finding it online does not establish permission to broadcast it.
- Review what viewers do. Use your channel analytics and Earn tab to decide whether to improve the format, title, schedule, or community interaction; do not infer causation from subscriber totals alone.
Choose a way to go live that you can maintain
YouTube supports mobile, webcam, encoder, and console workflows. The right choice depends on what the stream needs and how you will preserve its public replay. YouTube’s setup guidance requires a verified channel without a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days; streamers must be at least 16. See Get started with live streaming.

| Method | Useful when | Trade-off to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile | You need a simple, direct live setup from a phone. | Plan how the phone, power, connection, and moderation will be handled during long sessions; confirm the resulting public archive. |
| Webcam | You want to go live from a computer without building an encoder workflow. | It is less suited to elaborate scene layouts or continuous prerecorded programming; confirm replay visibility after the stream. |
| Encoder | You need overlays, gameplay capture, or external audio/video equipment. | There are more settings and components to configure and monitor. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a server URL and stream key. |
| Console | You are streaming supported gameplay directly from a console. | Check the console’s available controls and archive the broadcast as a public replay. |
No one method is universally best. For a stream where preserving watch hours matters, the key operational question is whether you can end sessions below YouTube’s archive threshold and confirm each public VOD—not whether your setup is the most elaborate.
Set up an encoder stream and protect the stream key
For an encoder workflow, start with YouTube Studio’s live control room and follow YouTube’s current encoder setup steps. YouTube provides a Live server URL and stream key for the encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on-screen or share it publicly. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in the live control room before the next broadcast.

- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Confirm live access. Verify the channel and confirm that live streaming is available with no restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation may take time, so do not leave it until immediately before a planned event.
- Create or schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Choose the intended visibility and enter an accurate title and description. Use public visibility if you are aiming to build eligible public watch hours.
- Copy the server URL and stream key from Studio into the encoder. Keep the key private. Use the encoder’s supported connection settings and the values YouTube displays for that stream.
- Run a test before the real session. Check the Studio preview and confirm audio and video are present. YouTube recommends testing and checking access from channel/watch pages and mobile; see its live-streaming tips.
- Monitor the broadcast, then end it before 12 hours. Inspect the public replay after ending and confirm that it is available as a VOD.
YouTube does not require expensive equipment to start: its live-streaming tips say, “You do not need expensive equipment, what you have at hand will do.” An encoder and external microphone or camera are optional tools when your format needs them, not prerequisites for gaining subscribers or qualifying for YPP.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a prerecorded YouTube stream that should continue without a home computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud service from Yorker Media. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded material from the cloud. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera, and it streams to YouTube only.
- Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream runs from the cloud.
- Uploaded video is streamed as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card (one free day per account). Billing options are a day, week, month, six months, or year; cancel any time. India checkout supports UPI and cards, and worldwide checkout supports cards.
A StreamNeo slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery, and StreamNeo team support. The same product is included on every plan; only the billing length changes. For five or more slots, contact support.
Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start the free day at StreamNeo registration.
Troubleshooting: protect the broadcast and the VOD
| Symptom | Likely issue | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The stream does not appear as a public replay. | It may still be processing, may not have been made public, or may have exceeded the archive window. | Check Studio and the watch page after the broadcast. Keep sessions under 12 hours, set the intended public visibility, and do not count the hours until the VOD is available and reflected in Earn. |
| Live analytics show watch time but Earn progress is lower. | Not all live watch time is eligible; unlisted, deleted, or non-VOD streams and ad-campaign watch hours are excluded. | Check the YPP eligibility definitions and Earn tab. Preserve qualifying streams as public VODs rather than relying on raw live analytics. |
| The encoder is not connecting. | The server URL or stream key may be incorrect, or the key may have been changed. | Compare the encoder values with the current stream details in Studio. Copy the current URL and key; if a key was exposed, reset it before going live. |
| The preview has no sound or picture. | The encoder input or selected audio/video source may be wrong. | Test before the public session, inspect the Studio preview, and verify audio and video from another device as YouTube recommends. |
| The channel cannot start a livestream. | Live access may not be activated, or the channel may not meet YouTube’s live-streaming requirements. | Check verification, age and restriction requirements, then review YouTube’s live-start guidance. Resolve access issues before scheduling a long broadcast. |
| Subscribers rise but YPP application is unavailable or declined. | The channel may not yet meet the watch-hour or Shorts route, other account conditions, or policy review. | Review the Earn tab and the full YPP requirements. Subscriber count alone is not sufficient, and meeting thresholds does not guarantee approval. |
Check the rules again before applying
YPP thresholds, available features, and regional availability are controlled by YouTube and can change. This article reflects YouTube’s help pages as checked on October 3, 2026; the platform’s page announces a change effective February 1, 2027. Before planning around a threshold or submitting an application, check the Earn tab in Studio and the current YPP eligibility page.
