To make a Sync Pair stronger in Pokémon Masters EX, use the Pokémon Center’s Sync Pairs > Upgrades menus: choose Level Up to increase its current level with experience or Level-Up Manuals, and choose Unlock Level Cap to raise the highest level it can reach with the displayed materials. Then add pair-specific upgrades such as Potential, 6★ EX, Move Level, and Sync Grid tiles when the pair is eligible and the investment fits your team.
The documented level cap is 200. A July 27, 2025 message from Pokémon Masters EX producer Tetsuya Iguchi says, “Along with the addition of the Pasio Towers, we’ve raised the level cap for Sync Pairs to 200.” Certificates of Excellence cover unlocks through Lv. 180, while Plaques of Perfection are used beyond 180, with Pasio Towers identified as a source. Menus, eligibility and event rewards can change, so always read the requirements shown on the pair’s current upgrade screen.

How do you level up a Sync Pair?
Leveling raises a pair’s ordinary combat stats. It is separate from raising the level cap: a pair can have an unlocked cap and still need experience before it reaches that cap.

- Open the Pokémon Center.
- Select Sync Pairs.
- Open Upgrades, then choose Level Up.
- Select the Sync Pair and apply the available Level-Up Manuals. Confirm the new level and the remaining experience or manual balance.
The official Beginner’s Guide uses this same route. Level-Up Manuals are an immediate way to add experience when you have them; their availability and quantities depend on current events and Training Area rewards.

Gain experience in battles
Sync Pairs also gain experience through battles. This costs no manuals, but it takes longer and exposes the team to the battle’s normal difficulty. Use battles when you want to conserve manuals, when you are already farming a useful stage, or when the pair can safely participate.
Use the recommended level as a target
Official battle tips recommend raising pairs to the level recommended for the battle rather than automatically maxing every pair. A pair at the recommended level can be sufficient when its role, team support and type matchup are appropriate. A higher level helps, but it does not replace a missing defensive role, an unsuitable grid or a poor weakness matchup.
How do you unlock a Sync Pair’s level cap?
Unlocking the level cap is a different operation from earning experience. It raises the maximum level displayed for that pair; it does not grant all of the levels automatically.

What the documented level-200 cap uses
| Progression range | Material identified in official guidance | Source or qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Unlocks through Lv. 180 | Certificates of Excellence | Specified in the July 27, 2025 producer message; exact quantity is shown per pair in-game. |
| Unlocks above Lv. 180 | Plaques of Perfection | Specified in the same producer message; exact quantity and eligibility are shown on the current upgrade screen. |
| Cap-unlock materials generally | Items listed by the pair’s Unlock Level Cap screen | The Training Area’s Cap-Unlock Area is an official source; event availability changes. |
The level-200 figure is a documented cap, not a promise that every future version will use the same rules. If a later update changes the cap, item names or unlock route, the pair’s upgrade screen is the controlling information.
What does “full potential” include?
There is no single button that completes a Sync Pair. “Full potential” normally means combining the upgrades the specific pair supports with a level and team that match your battle. The systems below have different materials and effects.
| System | What it changes | What you need to check |
|---|---|---|
| Level Up | Raises current level and stats. | Use Level-Up Manuals or battle experience; the current cap must allow the target level. |
| Unlock Level Cap | Raises the maximum level available to the pair. | Use the exact materials displayed in Unlock Level Cap; Cap-Unlock Area rewards are not experience. |
| Increase Potential | Raises stats with Power-Ups. | Confirm the pair’s potential screen and spend Power-Ups on pairs you actually use. |
| 6★ EX | Uses Champion Spirit to grant an EX style and a stronger Sync Move for eligible pairs. | Not every Sync Pair has an EX style or can reach 6★ EX. |
| Move Level | Improves a move when the pair’s duplicate or the appropriate Move Candy is used. | Move level is not trainer level; check the move’s own upgrade screen. |
| Sync Grid | Adds pair-specific effects by unlocking tiles with Sync Orbs. | Every tile has its own cost and prerequisites, and effects differ by pair. |
| Lucky Skills | Adds an optional skill selected through the Lucky Skill system. | Lucky Skill items come from the Lucky Skill Area and the useful choice depends on the pair’s role. |
| EX Role | Adds an additional role effect for eligible pairs. | Requires Roll Cakes, obtained through Roll Cake Coins, and is not available to every pair. |
| Superawakening | Provides an additional upgrade on pairs that support the feature. | Requires the specified candy, tomes and codices; eligibility is pair-specific. |
How to raise Potential and unlock 6★ EX
Increase Potential with Power-Ups
Potential is the stat-focused upgrade that uses Power-Ups. Open the pair’s upgrade options from the Sync Pairs area, choose Increase Potential, and read the confirmation screen before spending the items. The number and type of Power-Ups available to you determine how broadly you can invest, so reserve them for pairs that fill a current team need or appear regularly in difficult content.

For an eligible pair, 6★ EX uses Champion Spirit and unlocks an EX style plus a stronger Sync Move. The official guide explicitly cautions that not every pair has an EX style or can be raised to 6★ EX. If the option is absent, that is an eligibility limitation, not a missing level or a failed cap unlock.
Because EX effects are tied to the pair, inspect the displayed EX benefit and the role you want the pair to play. A stronger Sync Move can matter most for a pair that regularly syncs, while another pair may gain more from a grid tile, move level or ordinary level increase first.
How to raise Move Level
Move Level improves a Sync Pair’s move and is independent of the pair’s trainer level. A duplicate copy can raise it, or you can use the relevant Move Candy.
Using Move Candy
The official Beginner’s Guide says Move Candies are made available by collecting 20 Move Candy Coins, primarily from events and missions, and exchanging them in the Move Level menu. The menu identifies the candy type and the eligible move, so verify both before confirming an exchange.
Do not spend a Move Candy merely because a pair is low level. Move Level is a separate resource decision: first decide whether the move’s improved effect advances the role your team needs, then compare that benefit with the pair’s EX, grid and cap requirements.
How to use the Sync Grid
The Sync Grid lets you buy pair-specific tiles with Sync Orbs. Open the pair’s grid from its upgrade options, inspect each tile’s prerequisites and cost, and activate only the route that supports the battle plan.
Where Sync Orbs come from
Current official battle tips refer to Co-op Sync Orbs in the Training Area’s Sync Orb Area. The exact stage rewards and availability can change, so use the current Training Area listing as the authority.
Build for the job, not for a universal template
Grid effects vary by Sync Pair. Damage dealers may value tiles that improve a particular move or conditions, while Supports may prefer durability, gauge or team utility. A tile that is excellent in one fight can be irrelevant when the opponent removes its condition or the team uses a different move rotation.
The Beginner’s Guide notes that Sync Grid presets can be changed for team and battle conditions. Save separate arrangements when you switch between content rather than assuming one grid is optimal everywhere.
Optional systems: Lucky Skills, EX Roles and Superawakening
Lucky Skills
Lucky Skills are additional effects selected with items from the Lucky Skill Area. They are optional follow-on upgrades, not prerequisites for ordinary leveling or cap unlocking. Choose a skill after identifying the pair’s job and the content you play; a defensive skill, critical-focused skill or status-related choice can have very different value depending on the kit.
EX Roles
EX Roles are available only on eligible pairs and use Roll Cakes. The official guide identifies Roll Cake Coins as the way to obtain Roll Cakes. Check the pair’s EX Role screen before collecting or spending these materials, since a pair without the feature cannot use them.
Rank #4
Superawakening
Superawakening is another optional system restricted to pairs that have the feature. It requires the specified candy, tomes and codices shown in-game. Treat it as a late investment after you know the pair is a long-term part of your roster; it is not needed to raise the pair’s ordinary level.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat upgrade order should you use?
No single order is optimal for every account. Use the battle’s recommended level, the pair’s eligibility and your available materials to decide.
For a new or returning player
- Raise the pairs you actually use to a useful level through Level Up.
- Unlock the next available cap when you have its displayed materials.
- Repeat the level increase up to the new cap if the battle requires it.
- Use a modest Sync Grid that improves the pair’s normal rotation.
- Consider Potential or 6★ EX when the pair is eligible and Champion Spirit or Power-Ups will produce a clear team benefit.
- Save Move Candies, Roll Cakes and Superawakening materials for pairs you expect to keep using.
When a battle is stopping your team
- Compare your pair’s level with the stage’s recommended level.
- Check the opponent’s weakness and bring a compatible attacker where possible.
- Use Theme Skills that support the team rather than selecting pairs solely by individual level.
- Place a sturdier Support in front when the battle’s targeting and damage pattern make that safer.
- Only then decide whether the missing performance is best addressed by a cap unlock, grid tile, move level, Potential or EX upgrade.
When materials are scarce
Prioritize cap unlocks for pairs that are already part of your teams, because cap materials cannot substitute for experience. Next, choose the upgrade that directly fixes the battle problem: a survivability tile for a Support that is being defeated, a move upgrade for a rotation that lacks damage, or 6★ EX for an eligible pair whose Sync Move is central to the strategy. Avoid spreading rare materials across pairs you do not use.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why can’t I level up or unlock a pair?
The pair is at its current cap
If Level Up will not go higher, open Unlock Level Cap and read the missing-item list. Experience cannot bypass a locked cap.
You have experience items but not cap materials
Level-Up Manuals and cap-unlock items serve different purposes. Manuals add experience; Cap-Unlock Area items and other listed materials raise the maximum. Farm or claim the category shown by the cap screen instead of spending manuals.
The 6★ EX or EX Role option is missing
Those systems are eligibility-gated. The official guide states that some pairs lack an EX style or 6★ EX access, and EX Roles likewise require a pair with the feature. Check the pair’s current detail screen before assuming more levels will unlock it.
Best Value
A grid tile is unavailable
Read the tile’s individual requirements. You may be short on Sync Orbs, another prerequisite tile may be inactive, or the pair may need a different grid level. Co-op Sync Orbs are associated with the Training Area’s Sync Orb Area in current guidance.
The menu or rewards look different
Pokémon Masters EX changes through updates and events. Menu labels, eligible pairs and material sources can change. Use the labels and item list currently shown on the pair’s upgrade screen and the event’s reward details.
Does leveling alone make a Sync Pair strong?
Leveling raises stats, but difficult battles also depend on role coverage, Theme Skills, type weakness, move rotation and the pair’s available grid and EX effects. A higher level cannot compensate for bringing no Support, attacking the wrong weakness or activating grid tiles that do not match the battle. Build the team first, then spend specialized materials where they solve a specific problem.
What you actually need to play and upgrade
This is a digital progression task carried out through battles, menus and in-game items. The official FAQ describes Pokémon Masters EX as free to download with purchasable in-game items, requiring online play and not supporting offline play. No physical guide, controller or phone accessory is required to raise a Sync Pair; the necessary actions are performed inside the app.
A practical checklist before you spend resources
- Is the pair already part of a team you use?
- Is the problem its current level, its locked cap or a specific kit limitation?
- What exact materials does the current upgrade screen request?
- Is the pair eligible for 6★ EX, an EX Role or Superawakening?
- Does the proposed grid route match the battle’s weakness, role and move rotation?
- Would a Theme Skill, stronger Support or different target solve the problem more cheaply?
- Are the materials from a limited event, and have you checked the event’s current end date and rewards?
Bottom line
Use Level Up for experience, Unlock Level Cap for the maximum level, and the pair’s individual upgrade screens for Potential, EX, Move Level and Sync Grid decisions. The documented cap is 200, with Certificates of Excellence through 180 and Plaques of Perfection beyond 180 in the July 2025 announcement, but live requirements can change. Build around the battle and the pairs you actually use instead of trying to max every Sync Pair at once.
