How to Put the Latest YouTube Live Replay First in a Playlist

To make the latest event recording start first for viewers, add the replay to the relevant YouTube playlist and move it to the top. YouTube documents manual playlist reordering, not an automatic setting that continually places new live replays first.

Make sure the live replay is available

A replay has to exist before you can reorder it. In YouTube Studio, open Content and select the Live tab to find past streams. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. If the event matters, YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. If the replay is present but viewers cannot see it, check its visibility in the live content’s details in YouTube Studio. Archive availability and playlist order are separate: changing visibility does not move a video to the top.

Move the latest replay to the top

  1. In YouTube Studio, select Content > Playlists.
  2. Find the playlist containing the event recordings, open its menu, and choose Edit on YouTube.
  3. Drag the newest replay above the older recordings. YouTube’s playlist instructions describe dragging videos up or down to reorder them. Manage playlists in YouTube Studio – Computer
  4. Open the viewer-facing playlist and confirm the intended event recording is first.

Repeat these steps after each event. The official instructions describe manual ordering; they do not document automatic newest-first placement for future live replays.

Sandisk 2TB Extreme Portable SSD, Up to 1050MB/s, USB-C, USB 3.2 Gen 2, IP65 Water and Dust Resistance, Updated Firmware, External Solid State Drive, SDSSDE61-2T00-G25
  • Get NVMe solid state performance with up to 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write speeds in a portable, high-capacity drive(1) (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device & other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
  • Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)
  • Use the handy carabiner loop to secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind.
  • Help keep private content private with the included password protection featuring 256‐bit AES hardware encryption.(3)
  • Easily manage files and automatically free up space with the SanDisk Memory Zone app.(5). Non-Operating Temperature -20°C to 85°C

Choose the lasting playlist order, not a temporary reorder

You can drag videos in the playlist itself, or reorder the playlist panel while watching. These actions are not equivalent: YouTube describes reordering in the watch-page playlist panel as temporary. For an order that carries over to other viewers, edit the playlist itself. Create and manage playlists – Computer

YouTube also recommends organizing live-stream archives and highlight clips into playlists. Promote your live stream

Fix common problems

  • The replay is missing: Check YouTube Studio > Content > Live after the stream ends. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured; a local recording provides a separate backup.
  • The new order did not stick: You may have changed only the watch-page playlist panel. Open the playlist for editing and drag the replay to the first position.
  • The replay is first for you but not visible to viewers: Check the replay’s visibility in its YouTube Studio details, then verify the public playlist order.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is a separate option for keeping uploaded videos live on YouTube 24/7; it does not reorder archived replays in a playlist. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running without a computer, OBS, or home connection staying on.
