Use the official app or website, confirm its publisher independently, read the current privacy and payment terms for that exact service, and provide only the information needed for your booking or permit. Keep passwords and email verification codes private, use an updated and secure device, and contact official support immediately if you suspect exposure. These steps matter because pilgrimage platforms may handle passport details, religion, health information, identity documents and payment data—not just a name and email address.
Do not assume that every Hajj, Umrah, hotel, transport, wallet or permit app has the same data practices. The controls and obligations described by Nusuk Hajj and Nusuk Umrah apply to those services; a third-party app must be assessed on its own terms.

Why pilgrimage apps require extra care
A legitimate pilgrimage service may need sensitive information to verify identity, issue a permit, arrange travel or match a package to a traveler. Nusuk Hajj’s privacy policy, for example, lists mandatory name, email address, mobile number, gender, marital status, nationality, religion, date of birth, passport number and passport expiry date. It also identifies optional personal photos and sensitive information such as health conditions, personal preferences and proof of residence. Payment-method details can be collected when a user completes a payment form.

The safest approach is not to avoid all digital services; it is to verify the service, understand its stated data use, disclose the minimum necessary information and react quickly when something looks wrong.

Is the Nusuk app safe to use?
Nusuk is an official Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah service, but “official” does not mean risk-free or independently audited. The Nusuk Umrah terms describe safeguards including firewalls, password access and secure servers. Those are statements by the platform, not the result of an independent security test. No independent security-testing result or population-level security statistic is published for this service.
The Google Play listing is useful for checking the publisher, but its figures are not security measurements. The listing, observed on 13 October 2026, named the Ministry of Hajj and Umra as developer, showed 10m+ downloads and said the app was updated on 9 October 2026. Store metadata can change, and a download band does not show the number of active users or the quality of security controls. Check the current listing before installing.
Nusuk services are also not interchangeable. Nusuk Hajj has a Hajj-platform privacy policy; Nusuk Umrah has separate terms and a privacy policy; the mobile app is a store-distributed client. A hotel, transport or payment service linked from a pilgrimage journey may have another controller, retention period and refund process.

How to tell whether a Hajj or Umrah app is official
- Start at the ministry’s official site. Type the ministry address yourself or use a bookmark you created earlier. Follow its app or service link instead of relying on an advertisement, an unsolicited message or a social-media direct message.
- Check the store publisher. Compare the developer name shown in the current store listing with the name published by the ministry. The Nusuk Google Play listing named the Ministry of Hajj and Umra. A similar icon, Arabic name or high download count is not enough.
- Reject unknown installation files. Do not install an Android package, configuration profile or “urgent update” sent by a stranger or downloaded from an unfamiliar store. If a link opens a login page, close it and navigate to the official site manually.
- Inspect the address before signing in. Look for the expected official domain, HTTPS and a normal login flow. Attackers can use a valid HTTPS certificate on a lookalike domain, so the domain name and the path you reached matter more than the padlock alone.
- Use support reached through the official channel. If a person claims to be an agent, end the conversation and find the service’s support contact in the app, ministry site or current terms. Never use a phone number supplied only by the unexpected caller.
Read the privacy policy for the exact service
Before registration or payment, answer five questions: what data is collected, why each category is needed, who receives it, how long it is retained and how you can exercise your rights. Save a copy or screenshot of the version and date you read, because policies and checkout terms can change.
What Nusuk Hajj says it collects
The Hajj policy identifies the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah as controller. It lists name, email, mobile number, gender, marital status, nationality, religion, date of birth, passport number and passport expiry date as mandatory. A personal photo is optional. Health conditions, personal preferences and proof of residence are described as sensitive information. Collection may occur during registration or booking, through website cookies and when a user completes a payment-method details form.
The policy says data may be shared with ministry authorities and ministry-directed qualified service companies, guides and customer-service staff. It describes processing in Saudi Arabia and retention for as long as needed for the stated purposes. Subject to applicable rules, it lists rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, object to processing and obtain portability.

What Nusuk Umrah says about accounts and information
The Umrah terms cover packages, flights, lodging, transport, document verification and payments. They define personal data to include contact details, bank-account and card information and images. The user chooses the account password, and an email one-time validity code is sent for certain operations. Treat that code as confidential: possession of it can help an attacker pass an account check.

The Umrah privacy policy asks for cookie consent on first use and says a user can opt out, although some features may not work afterward. It directs users to the privacy policies of third-party sites and services. The page states that it was last updated on 4 September 2024; that date is not proof that every underlying practice remains unchanged, so check the live policy at the time you book.

Submit only what the task requires
Complete required fields inside the verified platform, but do not send extra documents to a person who contacts you unexpectedly. A legitimate booking flow may request a passport number; an unsolicited agent asking for a passport scan, card number, password or verification code is a separate event that requires independent confirmation.
- Never email or message a card number, card security code, password or one-time code unless you have independently verified an official, secure workflow—and ordinary support should not need your password or email code.
- If an unusual field appears, pause. Open the official site yourself, read the explanation beside the field and contact support through the published channel.
- Keep copies of confirmations and reference numbers, but store passport scans and payment records in a protected location rather than an open group chat.
- Do not upload a photo or health document merely because another traveler was asked for one; requirements can differ by service, package, nationality and stage of booking.
Protect the account and device
Password and verification-code rules
Use a unique, long password for the pilgrimage account. Do not reuse the password for email, social media or banking. The Nusuk Umrah terms state: “Do not share login information (username and password) with others, and do not allow others to use the User’s account on the platform, as the User is responsible for data leakage from his personal account, including the username and password.” This is platform guidance, not an independent security certification.

Device and network hygiene
- Install operating-system and app updates from the device’s normal update mechanism.
- Use a screen lock and do not leave an authenticated account open on a shared computer.
- Follow the Umrah terms’ advice to use a secure device and keep antivirus software current. Security software cannot make an unofficial app trustworthy, but an unmaintained device increases exposure.
- Avoid signing in on a public computer or an open, unknown Wi-Fi network. If you must use shared connectivity, wait until you can verify the address and avoid saving passwords.
- Review installed apps and permissions. Remove an app that appeared unexpectedly or asks for access unrelated to its stated booking function.
Pay safely and understand refunds
- Reach checkout from the verified service. Do not follow a payment link sent in a chat if you did not initiate the transaction.
- Match the details. Before authorizing, check the package or service name, amount, currency, recipient and any traveler names. Stop if a last-minute change appears.
- Use the methods the platform actually offers. The Nusuk Umrah terms say card payments may use Visa or Mastercard, or a user may charge the platform e-wallet. Another app may use a different processor or wallet; never assume these options carry over.
- Save evidence. Keep the receipt, confirmation number, date, amount and the account used. Do not store full card data in an unprotected note.
- Read the live cancellation and refund clause. Under the current Umrah terms, a card refund returns to the same card and processing may take up to 45 business days. This is a stated term, not a promise that every package or future version has the same timetable; package-specific checkout terms control.
Do not authorize a payment merely because a caller knows your name, travel date or partial passport details. Those facts can be obtained from a compromised account or previous conversation. Use the official support route to verify any claimed balance, refund or deadline.
What to do if your information may be exposed
- Stop the interaction. Do not send additional documents or codes, and do not click further links from the suspicious message.
- Contact the platform quickly. Use support details reached through the official app or ministry website. The Umrah terms specifically direct users to technical support if login details or other confidential information may have been obtained by someone else.
- Change the account password. If it was reused, change it everywhere it was used. Protect the associated email account first, because email access can enable password resets.
- Secure payment methods. Contact the card issuer or wallet provider if card details, an e-wallet credential or an authorization code may have been exposed. Ask about monitoring, replacement or a transaction dispute.
- Review activity. Look for unfamiliar bookings, profile edits, password-reset messages and payments. Record dates, screenshots and support case numbers.
- Warn travel companions. Tell family members or an organizer not to trust messages sent from the compromised account until the platform confirms recovery.
Official platform or third-party service?
The choice is not simply “official equals safe” and “third-party equals unsafe.” An official platform may be the appropriate route for a permit or ministry-managed booking, while a reputable third party may arrange a hotel or transport service. Compare the service on evidence you can verify.
