If you think you approved something malicious, first identify what you granted: disconnecting a website does not revoke an on-chain access key or NFT approval, and revoking an approval does not repair an exposed seed phrase or account key.
Know what you are granting
NEAR wallet security involves several distinct permissions. A website connection, a NEAR function-call access key, and an NFT contract approval are not interchangeable. Disconnecting a site ends its wallet connection; it should not be treated as revoking an on-chain key or token approval.

| Permission or action | What it means | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Website connection | Lets a dApp interact with a wallet connection. Disconnecting is not the same as removing an on-chain permission. | Disconnect from the wallet if you no longer use the site, but separately inspect keys and approvals. |
| Function-call access key | A NEAR account key that can be scoped for dApp use, potentially limiting the receiver and methods it can call. The NEAR injected-wallet specification describes requesting such keys with explicit user approval; implementations vary. NEAR injected-wallet specification | Review the requested scope, including permitted receiver and methods, and any allowance. Avoid broader authority than the task requires. |
| NFT approval | An approval recorded by an NFT contract, authorizing an account to act for a particular token under the contract’s rules. | Review and revoke through the relevant NFT contract or a trusted interface that supports its NEP-178 methods. |
Check a site and wallet prompt before signing
- Open the dApp from a bookmark or a project channel you have independently verified. Check the domain carefully for misspellings and lookalike characters; do not trust a sponsored search result just because it appears first.
- Never type or share your seed phrase on a dApp, support chat, or “verification” page. A normal dApp interaction should not require your recovery phrase.
- Read the wallet prompt before approving it. Check the account, receiver or contract, method, amount, and requested permission. If the request is unexpected or you cannot explain what it does, cancel it.
- Where your wallet offers limited function-call keys, prefer the narrowest receiver and method scope needed. Check any allowance, and remove unused or suspicious keys using the wallet’s key-management controls or a trusted, independently verified workflow.
A function-call key is not automatically safe just because it is described as restricted: its actual scope matters, and not every connection uses one. The technical specification describes the permission model, not a guarantee that every wallet prompt or dApp request is benign. NEAR injected-wallet specification

NEP-178 defines NFT approval and revocation methods. To revoke one approved account for a token, the standard describes nft_revoke; to clear approvals for a token, it describes nft_revoke_all. These are contract methods, so use the relevant NFT contract’s interface or another trusted tool that supports the contract, then verify the resulting on-chain state. NEP-178 approval management

- Identify the NFT contract and token whose approval you want to review.
- Use a trusted interface for that contract to revoke the specific approval with
nft_revoke, or clear approvals for the token withnft_revoke_all, as appropriate. - Confirm the transaction details in your wallet before signing; cancel if the contract, method, or scope is unexpected.
- After the transaction, verify on-chain that the approval state changed. Do not assume a disconnected dApp or a wallet UI change has revoked the contract approval.
NEP-178 notes that revocation does not send a cross-contract call to prior approvers. This is an NFT approval mechanism, not a universal checker for fungible-token allowances, and EVM approval tools should not be assumed to cover NEAR. NEP-178 approval management
Respond to a suspected compromise
If you approved an unfamiliar NFT permission
Revoke the relevant token approval through the NFT contract’s supported method and verify the on-chain result. Also inspect the wallet’s keys; the approval and any account access keys are separate permissions.

If a function-call key looks suspicious
Use the wallet’s key-management controls or a trusted, independently verified workflow to remove it. Confirm which key is being removed and verify the account’s key state afterward. Removing a key does not revoke a separate NFT approval.
If your seed phrase or full-access key may be exposed
Treat the account as compromised. On a clean device, create a fresh account and move remaining assets to it. Revoking one NFT approval cannot make an exposed recovery phrase or full-access key safe again.

What a hardware wallet can—and cannot—do
A hardware wallet can keep private-key operations off a potentially compromised computer, reducing exposure of the key. It does not decide whether a transaction or NFT approval is malicious: if you approve a harmful request after misreading the prompt, hardware custody does not make that approval safe.
The Near Wallet feature page lists “Ledger Nano S/X support via the NEAR Ledger app.” That is a wallet-vendor compatibility claim, not a protocol-wide guarantee; confirm that your chosen wallet supports your device before relying on it. Near Wallet features
