Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallProtecting your home address requires three separate checks: remove or edit the saved Home place in your map account, stop any live location shares with people, and review location history. Changing one does not automatically change the others. The steps below cover Apple Maps and Find My, Google Maps and Google Account, plus the device and account settings that can continue exposing location.
Apple and Google change labels by operating-system version, app release, country, account type and staged rollouts. If your screen differs, look for the named control rather than assuming the feature is missing.

Know which kind of location you are protecting
A saved Home entry is an address record used for shortcuts, directions and personalization. It is not proof that anyone can see your current position. Live location sharing is a separate permission granted to selected people, sometimes for a chosen duration or one trip. Location history is a third control: it records places or routes for later viewing and may remain in an account even when no person is receiving a live feed.

| Saved Home or Work place | An address or map pin | Your account; apps using that account record | Until edited or removed | Edits or removes the saved place only |
| Live location sharing | Current or recently updated position, and sometimes battery or travel status | People you selected, subject to the service and share | One trip, a chosen period, or ongoing | Stops a recipient’s access, or pauses updates if the service offers that option |
| Location history | Past places, routes or visits | Your account and devices signed in to it; service-specific history views | Until automatically retained, deleted or turned off | Changes collection or deletes history; does not necessarily end live sharing |
| Arrival/departure alerts | Notice that you reached or left a selected place | A recipient who configured an alert | Until the alert or sharing is disabled | Turns those alerts off, not necessarily the underlying share |
Use this distinction as a checklist. Removing a Home pin will not stop Find My or Google Location Sharing, and turning off history will not erase an address saved in Contacts or Google Account.

How do I remove my Home address from Apple Maps?
Edit or unpin the saved Maps place
- Open Maps on your iPhone.
- Under Places, find the saved Home place.
- Touch and hold the place, then choose Edit Details.
- Change the label or place type, or refine the pin so it no longer identifies your residence.
- To remove the Maps entry entirely, touch and hold it again and choose Unpin.
These controls come from Apple’s current iPhone guide. Other iOS releases may use slightly different wording or place the same command in a detail sheet.
Check the Contacts record separately
Apple says the address used for a Maps Home place can differ from the address in your Contacts card. Unpinning the Maps place therefore does not remove the address stored in your personal contact record. Open Contacts, select My Card, and review the home-address fields if you also want that record changed. Apps and convenience features may draw from either record.
How do I stop Apple location sharing with people?
Stop sharing with one person
- Open Find My.
- Tap People and select the person.
- Choose Stop Sharing My Location.
People with whom you share through Find My may also see that location in Apple Maps, Messages and Contacts. Stopping the share removes that person’s access to your shared location, but it does not remove your saved Home address or erase history.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesStop sharing with everyone
- In Find My, open the Me tab.
- Turn Share My Location off.
This is the broad switch for person-to-person sharing. It is different from turning off Location Services, which affects apps’ ability to request device location.
Use a limited duration or a temporary pause
When starting a share, Apple’s iPhone guide lets you set a sharing duration. Apple’s Personal Safety guidance also describes Hide Location for a selected person as a temporary pause; sharing resumes automatically the next day. A temporary hide is therefore not the same as permanently ending the person’s share.

Set expectations about notifications
Do not promise that stopping a share is invisible. Apple says recipients may notice that sharing ended, and on some earlier operating systems a Messages notification may appear. Another Apple support page describes a method that does not notify the person directly, so behavior can depend on the operating system and the way sharing was stopped. The reliable outcome is that the person can no longer see your shared location after the change.
Deleting Find My is not a privacy fix
Removing the Find My app does not cancel a share that was already configured. Apple says prior recipients may still see you. Reinstall Find My and stop sharing from the person’s entry or from Me > Share My Location.

Apple safety and device checks beyond Find My
Use Safety Check when you need a rapid review
Apple’s Safety Check can quickly stop sharing information, including location, and lets you review individual people and apps. It is useful when you are unsure who has access or when a device may have been configured by someone else. Follow the on-screen review rather than assuming that a single Find My switch covers every app and account.
Audit app permissions
Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. Review each app’s permission and whether it can use location only while in use, always, or not at all. An app can have location permission without any named person receiving a live share; permission simply allows the app to obtain device location for its own features.
Turning off Location Services globally prevents apps such as Maps from using device location and can break expected navigation and automation features. Apple notes that emergency calls may still use location. A global switch also cannot guarantee that every form of location inference stops, such as information derived from an account, network or content you share.

Review Find My devices and shared accessories
In Find My, open Devices and check the phones, tablets, computers and accessories associated with your Apple Account. Anyone who can access that account may be able to view the devices and accessories listed there. Remove devices you no longer own and secure the account before relying on a location setting.
Check ETA sharing and photo metadata
During a Maps journey, open the trip card and inspect any ETA-sharing setting. An ETA share can reveal destination and progress even when you did not start an ongoing Find My share. Before sending photos or videos, review location metadata; media can carry coordinates independently of Maps and Find My settings.
How do I turn off Apple location history?
Visited Places
Apple’s current guide provides a setting to turn off Visited Places. These places can appear on devices signed in to the same Apple Account, so review every signed-in device if the concern is who can see the history. This history control is separate from live sharing and from a saved Home pin.
Significant Locations & Routes
For the separate system history, use Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services > Significant Locations & Routes. Apple says Significant Locations and Visited Places are end-to-end encrypted and that Apple cannot read them. Turning a history feature off does not revoke a person’s Find My access; handle the People and Share My Location controls separately.
How do I remove Home and Work from Google?
- Open your Google Account.
- Go to Personal info.
- Find the Home or Work address fields.
- Edit or remove the address, then save the change if prompted.
Google says these saved account addresses are accessible only to you, while also using them to personalize services such as nearby search results, directions and relevant advertising. That statement concerns the account’s saved address; it does not mean that a person with whom you share live location can see or cannot see your position.

How do I stop sharing my location in Google Maps?
End an individual share on iPhone or iPad
- Open Google Maps.
- Tap your profile picture.
- Choose Location sharing.
- Select the recipient and tap Stop.
Google Location Sharing is account- and device-specific. It is off until you choose to share through a Google app or service. If more than one Google Account is signed in on a device, each account controls its own shares.
Pause updates on Android without ending the shares
On Android, Google documents a device/account-specific pause at Settings > Location > Location services > Google Location Sharing; turn off Use Location Sharing. This freezes updates but leaves existing shares in place. A recipient may continue to see the last available position rather than an immediate “share ended” state. To remove the recipient’s access, stop the share in Google Maps instead.
Understand what recipients may see
Depending on the share and account, Google says selected people may see your name, profile photo, real-time location, battery status and potentially recent places. Google Maps may also communicate travel mode. These details are not controlled by removing a saved Home address.
Stop trip-progress sharing
While navigating, Google Maps can share your destination, estimated arrival time and current location as trip progress. Google says this share ends when you reach the destination or stop navigation, and you can stop it manually from the navigation card. Check the card before starting a journey if you do not want the recipient to receive progress information.

Manage arrival and departure notifications
Google Location Sharing can let a recipient create an alert for your arrival at or departure from a selected place, such as home. Google says the person sharing receives an email, and possibly a push notification, when such an alert is added. You can turn off Location Sharing notifications while continuing to share your location at myaccount.google.com/locationsharing. Availability varies for some account types and link-sharing arrangements, so the control may not appear for every account.

How Google Maps Timeline differs from live sharing
Google describes Maps Timeline as an opt-in history feature that is off by default. If enabled, it can save precise device locations regularly, even when Google apps are not open. Turning Timeline off or deleting Timeline data does not necessarily remove other location-related information retained through Search history or Web & App Activity.
Google’s history settings are rolling out and the account interface can vary. Review Timeline, Search history and Web & App Activity as separate areas. A person who has live Location Sharing access is controlled through the Location sharing screen; Timeline changes do not automatically remove that person.
A complete privacy audit for any location-sharing app
- List every exposure. Write down saved addresses, current shares, trip-progress shares, arrival alerts, history features and apps with location permission.
- Remove the address record. Unpin or edit Apple Maps Home, review Contacts My Card, and remove Google Home or Work under Google Account Personal info.
- End recipient access. Stop each Apple Find My share and each Google Maps share individually, or use the service’s all-recipients switch where appropriate.
- Check temporary states. Apple Hide Location resumes the next day; Android’s Google pause leaves shares in place. Do not confuse either with permanent removal.
- Review account devices. Remove unfamiliar Apple devices and Google account sessions, then change the account password and enable available sign-in protections.
- Audit app permissions. In iOS Location Services or Android location-permission settings, deny access that an app does not need. Remember that permission and person-to-person sharing are different controls.
- Review history retention. Check Apple Visited Places and Significant Locations & Routes, Google Timeline, Search history and Web & App Activity.
- Inspect journeys and media. End Apple ETA sharing, stop Google trip progress, and remove location metadata before sharing photos or videos.
- Verify with the recipient view. Ask a trusted recipient what remains visible after the change, or check the sharing list from a separate account you control. A stale last location can remain during a pause; that is different from an active update.
Common problems and what they mean
“I removed Home, but my address still appears.”
You may have removed the Maps pin while the same address remains in Contacts My Card, or removed Google’s saved Home while another app has its own address record. Check each record rather than repeating the same map command.
“The person can still see me after I deleted the app.”
Deleting Find My does not end an Apple share. Reinstall it and use the recipient’s entry or the global Share My Location switch. On Google, confirm that you stopped the recipient’s share rather than merely pausing Android updates.
“I turned off history, but location-related information remains.”
Apple history, Google Timeline, Search history and Web & App Activity are separate stores. Turning off one does not promise deletion from the others; inspect each service’s controls and retention choices.
“The menu is missing.”
Labels and availability can differ by iOS or Android release, app version, country, supervised or Workspace account, and staged rollout. Search the settings screen for the named terms—Home, Location sharing, Share My Location, Timeline or Location Services—and use the account-level page when the app does not show the control.
What a VPN can and cannot do
Google notes that websites and apps may infer an approximate location from an IP address and that a VPN can prevent that particular inference. A VPN does not remove a saved Home address, stop GPS-based sharing, revoke app permissions or clear location history. Treat it as an additional network-privacy measure, not a substitute for the Apple and Google controls above.
Final check before you rely on the change
Protection is complete only when the saved address, live recipients, trip and alert features, history stores, app permissions and account devices have each been reviewed. Keep the controls separate in your mind: an address is a record, a live share is a permission, and history is retained data. Each requires its own action.
