Why a phone camera cover can get scratched
On some phones, the camera cover glass sits higher than the rear panel, so it can contact a surface when the phone is set down. Huawei Support notes that this exposure can leave the cover vulnerable to scratches or breakage and recommends protecting its edge with a case. Start with a case that keeps surfaces off the camera
Choose a case explicitly made for your phone’s exact make and model. Look for a camera rim that stands proud of the camera cover, so a flat surface rests on the case rather than directly on the glass. Huawei specifically advises a case that wraps around the edge of the camera cover. Huawei Support guidance

A raised rim reduces routine contact, but it cannot prevent every impact or scratch. Avoid placing the phone in a pocket, bag or tray with keys, gravel or other abrasive objects; Huawei also cautions against carrying the device alongside sharp objects such as keys and gravel.
Should you add a separate camera lens protector?
A model-specific protector can provide a replaceable outer layer, but it adds another surface in front of the camera and may not suit every phone or accessory combination. Before buying one, check these points:

- Case compatibility: Check that the protector and case can be used together without lifting, shifting or leaving the camera exposed.
- Optical trade-off: Because light passes through the camera cover, an added surface is a reason to check compatibility and image results rather than assume every protector is optically invisible.
Sony advises using protection intended for the device and warns that third-party accessories can cover lenses or interfere with device operation. Remove factory film that covers the camera
If a new phone has shipping or protective film over the camera, remove it before taking photos. Samsung says factory protective vinyl can prevent proper camera photos. This warning concerns the film supplied on the new phone; it does not establish that every aftermarket lens protector will cause the same issue. First check whether the mark is on removable film or on the camera cover itself. Do not scrape at the glass with a sharp tool. If the cover appears cracked, deeply scratched or damaged, consult the phone maker’s support guidance for that exact model; damage to cover glass can affect the light reaching the camera, and a protector placed over damaged glass is not a verified repair.
