What should I check before closing a foldable phone?
Before folding, look across both halves of the inner display and around the hinge for grit, crumbs, dust, or anything caught between the panels. Even a small object can be pressed against the flexible screen when the phone closes. Google specifically warns Pixel Fold owners to check the display and hinge for objects or fine particles; Samsung warns that cards, coins, or keys trapped between the screens can scratch or puncture the main display. Google warns Pixel Fold owners against contact with crumbs, fingernails, sharp objects, sand, dirt, and fine particles. Samsung advises against pressing the main screen with a pen or fingernail and against excessive pressure. Motorola’s Razr 2024 guide similarly warns against hard or sharp objects and excessive force, including excessive pressure on the display’s middle area.
Keep keys, coins, cards, pens, and other hard items away from the open screen. Avoid using a fingernail or stylus to tap or drag across it unless the manual for your particular model explicitly supports that accessory. Do not lean on the screen or press hard to close the phone.

Carry it thoughtfully
Check the manufacturer’s instructions for carrying your model. Motorola’s Razr 5G care guidance says to close the phone before putting it in a pocket or purse and to check for objects or debris before closing. That is model-specific guidance, not a universal rule for every foldable. A case designed for the exact phone can help protect its exterior during transit, but it does not remove the need to inspect the inner screen and hinge before folding.
Can I put a screen protector on a foldable’s inner screen?
Do not assume that a third-party film is compatible with a foldable inner display. The factory-installed liner and permitted replacement process vary by phone. Samsung says its supplied film is designed for folding and unfolding and advises against attaching adhesive accessories to the main screen. Google and Motorola give their own model-specific warnings against third-party inner-screen protectors.

Use a soft, clean cloth and gentle pressure. Google recommends a soft lint-free cloth and says to use a dry cloth for dust or smudges. Samsung recommends gently wiping with a soft, dry cloth. Motorola’s Razr 2024 guide also recommends a dry, soft cloth and cautions against abrasive cloths.
