For better Seedance 2.5 results, give the model four things in order: a map of what each reference asset controls, a one-sentence scene brief, a continuous timed sequence of actions and camera moves, and rules that apply throughout. This makes the prompt easier to interpret than a stack of adjectives—and gives you a practical way to refine identity, pacing, camera, and sound separately.
Build a prompt from four parts
Seedance’s prompting guide recommends this structure: asset mapping, one-sentence brief, timeline or shot order, and global constraints. Each part answers a different question: what should the model take from the references, what is the scene about, what happens when, and what must remain consistent?

- Map assets. Identify each uploaded image, video, or audio clip in upload order and state its role: for example, Image 1 sets the lead’s appearance, Video 1 provides camera movement, and Audio 1 supplies the voice. Say when the model should not copy other material from a reference.
- Write one brief. Name the subject, location, event, genre or visual style, and camera treatment in one clear sentence.
- Lay out the action. Use consecutive time ranges and describe visible action, camera movement, dialogue, and sound in the order they should occur.
- Set global constraints. State requirements that apply throughout, such as lighting, color palette, camera position, ambience, aspect ratio, subtitles, or music.
This structure follows the Seedance 2.5 Prompting Guide. Treat it as a planning method, not a guarantee of a particular result.

Asset mapping: Image 1 controls the lead character’s appearance; Video 1 is a reference for camera movement only; Audio 1 supplies the lead’s voice. Do not copy other content from the references.
Brief: A quiet, cinematic scene in a rainy bookshop, following the lead as they find a letter.
0–3 seconds: Begin in a medium shot as the lead enters and notices the letter on the counter. The camera tracks slowly left.
3–7 seconds: Move to a close-up as the lead opens the letter and reacts with restrained surprise. Keep the face and clothing consistent with Image 1.
Throughout: Soft rain and room tone only; no music or subtitles; muted blue-gray lighting.
The example is an editorial template, not a tested prompt. Adapt its timing and instructions to your footage and desired scene.

Make the timeline continuous and filmable
Describe a short video as a sequence that could be filmed, not as a list of disconnected visual ideas. Use adjacent ranges—such as 0–3 seconds, 3–7 seconds, and 7–15 seconds—so the action has no unexplained gaps. Within each range, put the visible action and camera move in a renderable order.
- Give each beat enough time. A brief clip cannot comfortably contain a crowded chain of actions. Keep the number and complexity of events proportionate to each segment’s duration.
- Use plain camera language. Terms such as “push in,” “pan,” “tracking move,” and “close-up” clarify the intended shot when they describe a real change in framing or movement.
- Connect beats. Describe how one action leads to the next. For example, a character notices an object, approaches it, then reacts after examining it.
- Include sound where it belongs. Specify dialogue or effects in the relevant time range, then use global rules for persistent ambience or exclusions.
The Seedance guide recommends whole-second timestamps. Its panda example develops one simple action across an eight-second arc: the cub starts rolling, the camera follows, the cub stops, looks toward camera, and settles. The useful principle is that action, camera, and sound should add up to a coherent mini-sequence rather than compete for attention.
Assign every reference a clear job
Seedance 2.5 supports subject and style references, motion and camera references, storyboards and keyframes, editing, extension, and asset assembly, according to the Seedance Prompting Guide. A reference works best when the prompt says what it contributes instead of asking the model to infer its purpose.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Use one image to set a character’s appearance and another to guide color or lighting.
- Say whether a video contributes action order, camera rhythm, or both.
- Identify which audio supplies a character voice, dialogue, melody, or rhythm.
- Tell the model to ignore unrelated content in a reference when only one aspect should carry over.
Do not rely on labels inside reference images to explain who or what appears in them. The guide recommends avoiding overly crowded reference images, keeping storyboards below 15 panels with simple, uncluttered drawings, and using simple geometry for blockouts. These are guide recommendations, not proof that every suggested maximum will work equally well for every task.
Reference capacity and guide recommendations
ByteDance’s July 31, 2026 launch announcement says a generation can use up to 30 images, 10 video clips, and 10 audio clips as references. The prompting guide separately gives those per-type recommendations and describes up to 50 total image, video, and audio assets in a request. These are stated capacity or input recommendations, not evidence that more assets improve a result.

Choose whether references guide the scene or lock it
“Use this as a reference” and “continue or edit this exact clip” describe different kinds of work. The Seedance guide distinguishes locked tasks from unlocked reference tasks:
| Task type | What the input does | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Locked: editing, first/last-frame generation, or extension | The input occupies part of the output timeline or determines its aspect ratio, limiting how freely some generation settings can change. | When the result must edit or continue an existing asset, or begin or end on a particular frame. |
| Unlocked: ordinary references, storyboards, or keyframes | Inputs add visual or semantic constraints while duration and aspect ratio remain independent. Separate keyframe images generally align more strictly than a storyboard grid. | When references should guide identity, style, or story but the overall output structure should remain flexible. |
This choice determines how much control the source material exerts over the output. Pick the task that matches the job before writing detailed timing instructions; a reference for inspiration is not the same as a source clip that must be preserved or continued.

If you provide audio, specify whether it is a voice, dialogue, melody, or rhythm reference. For generated sound, say what should be heard and when. A global instruction such as “wind and footsteps only” or “no music” can set the sound bed, while timed dialogue or effects belong alongside the action they accompany. The prompting guide says dialogue is supported in more than ten languages; it does not establish that every language or voice will work identically.
A USB microphone is optional if you want to record a clean voice reference. It is not a Seedance requirement, and the guide does not recommend a particular microphone.

ByteDance’s July 31, 2026 announcement says Seedance 2.5 can generate audio-video clips up to 30 seconds in one pass and supports multiple rounds of extension. Its current Seedance 2.5 model page describes 30-second storytelling and says a generated video can be extended twice. Keep those claims distinct: an extension workflow is not the same as generating a single 30-second clip.

ByteDance also says the model can organize connected shots within a 30-second generation, use multimodal references, and make timestamp-level edits. These are developer-stated capabilities, not independent performance tests. The prompting guide lists up to two extensions, while the current model page makes that specific limit explicit.

Plan for imperfect motion and continuity
ByteDance acknowledges that complex motions can lack physical plausibility and that scenes involving interactions among multiple subjects can be unstable. This matters for choreography, object handling, and scenes where several characters act at once. Keep those interactions legible, avoid packing too many simultaneous movements into one beat, and inspect generated results where continuity or physical action is important.
If a result misses the intended action or camera move, refine the relevant part of the prompt or clarify which reference controls it. No prompt structure can guarantee a publish-ready video on the first try.
Check access before planning a production workflow
ByteDance’s launch announcement said Seedance 2.5 was rolling out on Jimeng AI, Doubao Pro, and other platforms, with API access coming through BytePlus ModelArk. The current model page includes an API access action. Availability, pricing, and geographic access can change and are not established by those statements; check the official access route available to you before building a workflow around the model.
