Write a clear announcement that says what viewers will get by attending, when the stream starts, and where to watch. Put the scheduled YouTube link directly in the post when that placement supports clickable links. If it does not, use the platform’s available route, such as a profile link, and make the route explicit.

Choose social platforms based on where your intended viewers already follow you. There is no universally best platform established by YouTube’s guidance; consider whether a post can carry a clickable link, whether you need a teaser or reminder, and whether you can post consistently there.

Give people a reason to attend

Make a short teaser or channel trailer that previews the subject, guest, performance, or practical benefit of the livestream. YouTube recommends using a teaser as part of promotion.

Connect your social accounts to your YouTube channel where available, and share the event through the channels your audience uses.

If you have a website, embed or link to the scheduled event there. YouTube also suggests sharing the event URL with relevant blogs that may display the content and using your channel’s Live section to surface upcoming and live events. These options are described in YouTube’s promotion guidance.

Choose the stream format with discovery in mind
YouTube documents mobile, webcam, and encoder streaming as different ways to go live and advises choosing the method that fits the content; it also says expensive equipment is not required to get started. A vertical livestream may have an additional discovery route through the Shorts feed. YouTube’s Live Control Room can support simultaneous horizontal and vertical formats, but the experiences differ: for example, its feature comparison says the vertical live feed does not have clickable links in chat or the channel description. Subscribers receive one go-live notification with a shared URL for the dual-format feature. Check YouTube’s current streaming tips and dual-format livestream details before choosing a format, since features can change.
During the livestream: turn attention into useful reminders
Clip moments while the stream is live
Where your production setup and stream format allow, make highlight clips while the event is still live. YouTube recommends this as a way to promote the stream. A clip should make sense on its own and give someone a reason to watch the live event or its archive; avoid implying that a short excerpt represents the whole stream.

Keep the event visible on your channel
YouTube recommends updating your channel banner with the event name, date, and time as an additional reminder. If viewers ask how to join or what is happening, point them to the scheduled stream page so the details and viewing link are together.

Invite sharing without treating it as a YouTube feature
If it fits your community, ask viewers to share the event or invite friends who would be interested. TikTok LIVE Studio gives this kind of sharing advice for TikTok LIVE; it is not a YouTube-specific feature. See TikTok LIVE Studio. Link and sharing behavior varies by platform and placement, so check that the route you mention is actually available in the post your audience sees.
After the livestream: make the archive easy to find
Review the archive’s visibility
YouTube automatically uploads a livestream archive by default. Check its visibility after the event and make it public if you want new viewers to find it. YouTube says public archives can increase the reach of future streams; that is a platform statement, not a guaranteed outcome for an individual channel. Its promotion guidance covers archives and post-event discovery.
Organize the full stream and highlights
Add the public archive and your highlight clips to playlists with descriptive titles. Keep related events together so someone who finds one stream can browse the rest without having to search your channel manually.

Check whether a mobile stream can become a Short highlight
For eligible mobile livestreams, YouTube may offer a Short highlight. YouTube Help lists conditions including a stream length between 10 minutes and 12 hours, vertical format through the YouTube mobile app, enabled chat, and other requirements. The saved Short is private by default, so you must change its visibility to public for it to appear in the Shorts feed. Eligibility and features can change; check the conditions on YouTube’s livestream promotion page.

During the event: create suitable highlight clips, keep the channel banner current, and invite viewers to share if that suits the community.
