Use your YouTube channel’s Home tab Channel trailer to introduce the always-on stream to people who have not subscribed. In YouTube Studio, go to Customization → Home tab, add a Channel trailer section, select an uploaded video, and publish. Make the video identify the stream’s subject quickly, show what viewers will see or hear, and tell them where to open the live stream.
This is different from a trailer that plays on the watch page of a scheduled live stream. The steps below cover both features and explain when each one is useful.

What a channel trailer does for a 24/7 stream
A channel trailer is a preview on your channel Home tab for visitors who have not subscribed. YouTube describes its purpose this way: “Your channel trailer offers a preview of your channel so viewers can learn more and subscribe.” A clear trailer can explain what your always-on stream is and help visitors find it; YouTube does not publish a measured viewership increase for channel trailers promoting 24/7 streams.

One important behavior: YouTube says that after someone watches your channel trailer, it will not be shown to that viewer again. Make the opening seconds useful, rather than saving the stream’s subject or destination for the end.

How to add a channel trailer on YouTube
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Open Customization → Home tab.
- Under Layout, choose Add section → Channel trailer.
- Select the uploaded video you want to use.
- Click Publish.
- Visit your channel Home tab as a non-subscriber and check that the trailer explains the stream and points to the live content.
YouTube’s current channel-layout instructions do not prescribe a special length or resolution for a channel trailer. The duration limits for a scheduled live-stream trailer, covered below, do not automatically apply to this Home tab feature. See YouTube’s channel layout instructions.
What to put in a 24/7 stream trailer
There is no special YouTube script for an always-on stream. Aim for a brief, accurate preview that helps a first-time visitor decide whether the stream is relevant and how to watch it.

- Name the subject or format right away. For example, identify whether the stream features music, a scenic view, a themed video playlist, or another format.
- Say it is live 24/7 only if that is true. Be precise about any breaks, schedules, or changes that affect what viewers can expect.
- Show representative footage or sound. A logo can identify the channel, but it does not demonstrate what the stream is like.
- Give visitors a next step. Direct them to open the live stream or find it in the channel’s live content section. Make sure the destination is available and clearly labeled.
- Keep claims and rights current. Check that schedule details are accurate and that you have the necessary rights to the audio and video. Update the trailer if the stream’s content or format changes.
How to promote a YouTube live stream beyond the trailer
YouTube recommends a channel trailer or teaser as one promotion option. For an event, its guidance says, “Share your streaming link at least 48 hours before you go live.” That timing is advice for promotion before an event; a continuous stream does not have one ordinary start time. For a 24/7 channel, sharing the persistent live link and labeling it clearly as always on is a practical adaptation, not a separate YouTube rule.
YouTube also suggests connecting social accounts, embedding the stream URL on a website, creating a Live Section for upcoming and live events, and optimizing the channel and videos. Subscribers may see public events in their homepage feed, and viewers may find a live stream in the “What to Watch Next” area. YouTube presents these as ways to promote streams, not guaranteed results. Its live-stream guidance is at Promote your live stream.

After a stream ends, YouTube automatically uploads the archive by default. YouTube says making a live archive public can increase the reach of future streams; this is platform guidance, not a promised outcome. See Get started with live streaming for general streaming context.
Channel trailer vs. scheduled live-stream trailer
YouTube uses the word “trailer” for two different placements. Choose based on where and when you want viewers to see the video.

Can you add a trailer to a scheduled live stream?
Yes. The scheduled-stream trailer is a separate feature for a scheduled stream’s watch page, rather than the channel Home tab. YouTube’s current eligibility statement requires more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. The trailer must be 15 seconds to 3 minutes long, use a YouTube-supported video type, and follow Community Guidelines and audio/video rights rules. YouTube recommends using the same aspect ratio and resolution as the scheduled stream. Its help page says the feature can be used with streams scheduled from the Manage tab in Live Control Room.

- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and select the Manage tab.
- Create or select a scheduled stream, then edit it.
- Open Customize and add a video under Trailer.
- Save the changes.
These eligibility and duration rules apply to the scheduled-stream watch-page feature, not to the channel Home tab trailer. See Manage live stream settings for YouTube’s instructions.
