The reliable way to print to an HP printer is to match the printer model with your device’s supported print method. For normal wireless printing, connect the phone or computer and the printer to the same Wi-Fi network, then use the platform’s print command or HP’s software. iPhone and Mac devices usually use built-in AirPrint; Android can use HP Smart, HP Print Service Plugin, Android Default Print Service, or Mopria; Windows normally needs the correct HP driver or HP Smart.
If the printer does not appear, do not keep reinstalling random apps. Check the exact model’s compatibility, network connection, enabled print service, and driver first. The steps below cover each device and the alternatives—Wi-Fi Direct, USB/OTG, ePrint, and a wireless accessory—when ordinary network printing is unavailable.

Choose the right HP printing method first
HP’s mobile-printing features are model- and region-dependent. Two printers that look similar may support different combinations of HP Smart, AirPrint, Mopria, Wi-Fi Direct, ePrint, or USB printing. Identify the full model name from the printer’s front panel, control panel, or label before installing software.
| Method | Best for | Main requirement | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| HP Smart | Cross-device setup, documents, photos, scanning, and printer management | A supported HP model plus a network or supported internet connection | Available features vary by printer model and app version. |
| Apple AirPrint | iPhone, iPad, and Mac with minimal setup | An AirPrint-capable HP printer and the same local network | The printer will not be discovered when the model or network does not support AirPrint. |
| HP Print Service Plugin | Android phones and tablets | A supported HP model and an enabled Android print service | Not every HP printer supports every HP plug-in workflow. |
| Mopria or Android Default Print Service | Android devices that can print without a manufacturer-specific app | A Mopria-certified printer; Android Default Print Service is built into Android 8 and later, while the Mopria app supports Android 5 and later | Certification, menus, and available options depend on the printer and Android version. |
| Wi-Fi Direct | Printing when no home or office Wi-Fi is available | A compatible HP printer and a device that can join its direct wireless network | Setup and the Wi-Fi Direct password differ by model. |
| USB or USB OTG | Printers with no usable wireless path | Printer USB support, a suitable cable, and OTG support on the phone when applicable | Physical connection and model support are required. |
HP says mobile solutions vary by printer model and country or region. Treat the printer’s compatibility information as the deciding authority, especially for older models.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Prepare the printer and device
Use one local network for ordinary wireless printing
Connect the printer to the same Wi-Fi network used by the phone or laptop. A phone on a guest network, a laptop on a different band or router, and a printer connected to another access point may be unable to discover one another even when all three have internet access. If your router has separate network names, note exactly which one the printer joined.
Check the printer state
- Turn the printer on and wait until it finishes startup.
- Load the requested paper and replace an empty cartridge or toner only when the printer reports that it is required.
- Clear paper jams and close open covers.
- For wireless models, confirm that the Wi-Fi indicator shows a connection rather than setup mode.
Know which app or service you actually need
Use HP Smart when you need guided setup, scanning, ink or toner status, document and photo selection, or printer management. Use the operating system’s built-in print command when the printer supports AirPrint or a standard Android service and you only need to print. Installing several print services at once can create duplicate printer entries; enable one service first and add another only if your model requires it.
Print from an Android phone
Android printing depends more heavily on the printer model and Android version than iPhone printing does. Your model may work through HP Smart, HP Print Service Plugin, Android Default Print Service, Mopria, Wi-Fi Direct, or a cable connection.

Step 1: verify model support
Check whether the exact HP model lists HP Smart, HP Print Service Plugin, Android Default Print Service, or Mopria support. A printer that supports HP Smart may not support every function in the Android system print dialog, and an older printer may require Wi-Fi Direct, USB OTG, ePrint, or an accessory instead.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Step 2: connect the phone and printer
- For normal wireless printing, connect the Android phone and printer to the same Wi-Fi network.
- If you are using Wi-Fi Direct, open the printer’s wireless menu, enable Wi-Fi Direct, note the network name and password, and join that network from Android. The phone may temporarily lose internet access while connected directly to the printer.
Step 3: enable a compatible print service
Install HP Smart, install and enable HP Print Service Plugin, or turn on Android Default Print Service in the phone’s printing settings, depending on what the model supports. If you use Mopria, install or enable the Mopria service appropriate for your Android version. Android 8 and later commonly include Android Default Print Service; the Mopria app is intended for Android 5 and later, but the printer still has to be Mopria-certified.
Step 4: send the document or photo to print
- Open the photo, PDF, email attachment, webpage, or document in an app that exposes Print or Share.
- Tap Print. If it is not visible, tap Share, More, or the app’s three-dot menu first.
- Choose the HP printer from the printer list. In HP Smart, open the app, select the printer, choose Documents or Photos, and select the item to print.
- Set paper size, color or black-and-white mode, orientation, page range, and number of copies when those controls are offered.
- Tap Print and wait for the job to leave the queue.
If the HP printer is missing on Android
- Confirm that the selected HP print service is enabled, not merely installed.
- Recheck the exact model’s support list and the phone’s Wi-Fi network.
- Turn Wi-Fi off and on, restart the printer and phone, then reopen the print service or HP Smart.
- Disable an unused duplicate print service temporarily so Android does not present conflicting entries.
- For a printer with no usable network connection, investigate Wi-Fi Direct or a USB OTG cable only if the model documentation says it supports that path.
Print from an iPhone or iPad
Apple devices normally print through AirPrint, which is built into iOS and iPadOS. HP describes AirPrint as a built-in print driver for printing from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to most HP printers. You generally do not need an HP app for a basic print job.
Step 1: put both devices on the same network
Connect the iPhone or iPad and the HP printer to the same wireless network. If the printer is connected to a different router, a guest network, or Wi-Fi Direct, AirPrint discovery may not work until you use the corresponding connection method.

When HP Smart is useful on iPhone
Install or open HP Smart when you need guided printer setup, scanning, supplies or status information, alignment, or other management tools. It is an additional management route, not a prerequisite for an AirPrint job on a supported model.

Fix “No AirPrint Printers Found”
First verify the same-network requirement and restart the printer. Then confirm that the exact HP model supports AirPrint and that it is visible on the local network. If the model is not AirPrint-capable, use the model’s supported HP app, a computer driver, Wi-Fi Direct, USB, ePrint, or another documented route instead of repeatedly refreshing the AirPrint list.
Print from a Mac laptop
Mac laptops can use AirPrint when the HP printer supports it. HP says an AirPrint-enabled printer can be found automatically by a Mac on the same local network.
AirPrint procedure
- Connect the Mac and HP printer to the same local network.
- Open the document, photo, webpage, or PDF in its application.
- Choose File > Print.
- Open the printer menu and select the HP AirPrint printer.
- Choose paper size, orientation, page range, copies, and other available options.
- Click Print.
If the Mac does not offer the printer
Check the printer’s exact model for AirPrint support. For a non-AirPrint model, install the current HP driver supplied for that model or use another HP-supported printing solution. HP also documents HP ePrint Software for some Mac environments, but availability depends on the printer and macOS setup. Remove an obsolete printer entry and add it again after installing the correct software if macOS continues to show an unavailable queue.
Print from a Windows laptop
Windows usually requires a model-specific HP driver or HP Smart workflow, particularly when you need full paper, scanning, maintenance, or status controls.

Set up the connection
- Connect the printer and laptop to the same Wi-Fi network, or connect the printer by USB when the model supports USB setup.
- Download and install the exact HP driver from HP Support, or install HP Smart when that model supports it.
- During setup, choose the detected printer or enter the requested network or USB details.
- After installation, open Windows printer settings and verify that the HP printer appears as an available device.
Send a Windows print job
- Open the document or image in its application.
- Choose Print from the application menu or press Ctrl+P.
- Select the installed HP printer.
- Set paper size, orientation, color, page range, copies, and duplex options when supported.
- Submit the job and check the Windows print queue if nothing happens.
If Windows cannot find the printer
Confirm the model-specific driver, network membership, and printer support before changing advanced Windows settings. Remove the unavailable printer entry, restart the laptop and printer, reinstall or repair the correct HP driver or HP Smart, and add the printer again. HP’s laptop guidance notes that mobile-print solutions vary by supported printer, so a generic driver may not provide the functions your model needs.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Alternatives when ordinary Wi-Fi printing is unavailable
Wi-Fi Direct
Wi-Fi Direct lets a compatible HP printer create its own wireless connection, bypassing a home or office router. Enable it from the printer’s wireless settings, join the printer’s network from the phone or laptop, and then select the printer in the supported HP app or operating-system print dialog. Because menus and passwords differ by model, follow the instructions for that exact printer. Return the device to the normal home network afterward if it needs internet access.
USB and USB OTG
A USB cable can connect a laptop directly to a printer that supports USB setup. An Android phone requires a compatible USB OTG adapter and a printer and app that support USB printing; not every phone, cable, or HP model does. iPhone USB printing is not a universal fallback, so use the model’s documented wireless or app-based method instead.
Recommended Free Tools
ePrint
Some HP printers support ePrint, an internet-based submission method. Because ePrint availability and activation differ by model and region, confirm support in the printer’s documentation before relying on it. It is not the same as local AirPrint or Android discovery and may require the printer to be connected to the internet.

HP 1200w wireless print accessory
Some older HP printers can gain wireless mobile-print capability through the HP 1200w NFC/Wireless Mobile Print Accessory. Compatibility is limited to specific printer models, so verify the model list before purchasing or installing an accessory. It is an option for a printer that lacks built-in wireless support, not a universal adapter.
Troubleshoot an HP printer that does not appear
Work through these checks in order; each one eliminates a different cause of failed discovery.
- Identify the exact model. Confirm whether the printer supports the app, service, protocol, or accessory you selected. HP’s available mobile solutions vary by model and country or region.
- Check network membership. For normal wireless printing, verify that the printer and device are on the same Wi-Fi network, not merely connected to the internet.
- Restart both ends. Turn the printer off and on, restart the phone or laptop, and reopen HP Smart or the operating-system print service.
- Check Android service status. Enable HP Print Service Plugin, Android Default Print Service, or Mopria in the phone’s printing settings, according to the supported method.
- Check AirPrint support. On iPhone or Mac, verify AirPrint support for the exact model and confirm that the printer is visible on the local network.
- Repair Windows setup. Install the correct HP driver or HP Smart, remove the stale printer entry, and add it again.
- Try a supported alternate connection. If the printer has no working network path, check its documentation for Wi-Fi Direct, USB/OTG, ePrint, or the HP 1200w accessory.
Prevent avoidable print failures
- Keep the printer’s Wi-Fi credentials and the network name consistent after changing routers.
- Use the printer’s reported paper size and orientation; a mismatch can pause a job even when discovery works.
- Delete abandoned queues after a failed setup so an old offline entry is not selected accidentally.
- Update HP Smart or the printer driver only when the version supports your operating system and model.
- When using Wi-Fi Direct in a public place, protect the printer with its configured password and disconnect afterward so nearby devices cannot submit jobs.
Which method should you use?
Choose AirPrint for a supported iPhone, iPad, or Mac when you want the fewest setup steps. Choose HP Smart when you need scanning, setup assistance, photos, documents, or printer management across different devices. On Android, select the service named in the model’s compatibility information; Mopria or Android Default Print Service can avoid a manufacturer-specific app when the printer is certified. On Windows, install the exact HP driver or HP Smart workflow. Use Wi-Fi Direct, USB/OTG, ePrint, or the HP 1200w accessory only when the printer’s model documentation confirms that option.
