In Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS. Choose a PDF destination, open More settings, and leave Headers and footers unchecked. Check the preview, then save the PDF. This prevents Edge from adding its print date and page number; it does not remove text or elements that are part of the webpage itself.
Print a webpage to PDF in Edge without the date and page number
- Open the webpage you want to save in Microsoft Edge.
- Open the print dialog with Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS. You can also choose Print from Edge’s menu or the page’s right-click menu. Microsoft’s Edge printing guide documents these routes.
- Choose an available PDF destination. Its name and availability can differ by operating system and installed print options.
- Expand More settings and make sure Headers and footers is unchecked. When enabled, Microsoft says this option adds the current date to the document header and the page number to its footer.
- Inspect the preview. If the page looks right, choose the dialog’s save or print action and select where to save the PDF.
What the setting removes—and what it does not
The checkbox controls browser-added print headers and footers, such as the date and page number. It does not remove content that the site itself displays at the top or bottom of the page. If a date, title, navigation bar, or footer remains in the preview after you turn the option off, it may be part of the webpage.

Page range, margins, scaling, and background graphics are separate print settings. Adjust them only if the preview shows a problem—for example, content cut off at the edge or a layout that is difficult to read. Microsoft’s printing instructions describe these print controls.

On a managed work or school computer, an administrator may control the setting with Edge’s PrintHeaderFooter policy. Microsoft documents the policy for desktop Edge on Windows and macOS starting with Edge 77; Android and iOS are listed as unsupported. If the policy is enabled, headers and footers always print; if disabled, users cannot print them. When it is not configured, the user controls the option in the print dialog. See Microsoft’s PrintHeaderFooter policy documentation. If the checkbox is unavailable on a managed device, ask your administrator rather than trying to override the policy.

If Edge print preview does not work
- Retry the print operation. A temporary preview or loading issue may clear on another attempt.
- Restart Edge and open the print dialog again.
- Try the system print dialog. In Edge’s print dialog, select Print using system dialog. Microsoft also documents direct shortcuts: Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows and Option+Command+P on macOS.
The system dialog’s labels and available PDF destinations can differ from Edge’s built-in dialog, so check its preview and controls rather than assuming they match. These recovery steps are described in Microsoft’s Edge print troubleshooting guide.
