In Google Search campaigns, “automatically created assets” is now called text customization. To preview it, open the campaign’s Asset optimization section during setup, or edit an existing campaign and open its generated asset preview. Enter the final landing page URL, select Preview examples, and Google Ads will generate a representative sample of up to 10 headline and description examples—usually in less than 30 seconds. You can inspect these examples without opting into text customization.
The preview is a review aid, not a promise of what every user will see. Google says it does not show every possible combination and cannot guarantee that a displayed combination will appear in the final ad. Use it to catch obvious brand, factual, tone, and policy problems before launch, then monitor the assets that actually serve after launch.

What Google calls automatically created text assets now
Google’s current name for this Search campaign feature is text customization. The older term, automatically created assets, still appears in older help articles, screenshots, and discussions, so both phrases may describe the same capability. Google positions text customization inside AI Max for Search campaigns; enabling the feature requires opting into AI Max. Previewing examples is different: you can request examples before opting into text customization.
The system creates additional headlines and descriptions from information associated with the ad. Google describes a combination of extractive methods—such as using wording from page titles, descriptions, and meta tags—and generative AI grounded in the landing-page content. It may also use the domain, the ad group’s keywords, and existing ads. These inputs make the final URL and the page it resolves to central to the quality and relevance of the preview.
#1 Best Overall
What you need before opening the preview
- A Search campaign in Google Ads, either being created or already available for editing.
- A final landing page URL for the ad. If the campaign does not already contain one, you can enter it in the preview panel.
- Landing-page content that clearly explains the offer. Pages with little usable text can produce fewer generated assets.
- Your brand and compliance decisions, including words to exclude and themes you do not want suggested.
Text customization is available in the languages Google supports for the feature. Google lists English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, German, Japanese, and Dutch among the supported examples. The examples are available for almost all standard business categories, with adult content identified as an exception.
Preview examples while creating a Search campaign
The campaign-creation route is the quickest way to inspect generated copy before you commit to a new campaign.
- Start creating or editing the Search campaign and proceed to the section where assets are configured.
- Open Asset optimization. The exact surrounding layout can change as Google rolls AI Max controls into accounts, so look for this section rather than relying on an older screenshot.
- Confirm that a final landing page URL is present. If it is missing, enter the page you intend the ad to use.
- Select Preview examples.
- Wait for Google Ads to generate the sample. Google says examples are produced mostly in under 30 seconds, although a longer wait can occur.
- Read the suggested headlines and descriptions as representative creative. Check wording, claims, offers, brand names, locations, and calls to action before deciding whether to continue.
You do not have to opt into text customization merely to see the examples. The preview lets you evaluate the type of copy Google may produce while keeping the decision about campaign settings separate.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsPreview generated assets in an existing campaign
For a campaign that already exists, open the campaign in Google Ads and choose its edit workflow. In the campaign settings, locate the generated asset preview associated with the campaign’s asset-optimization controls. If the campaign has no final URL available for the ad, enter one and request Preview examples.
Use the same review standard as during setup: treat the output as sample text, not as an exhaustive list. An existing campaign may have several ads, ad groups, or URL arrangements, so verify that the URL shown for the preview is the one whose content you expect Google to use.
How the sample is generated
Landing-page and account signals
Google says text customization can combine page titles, descriptions, meta tags, and other landing-page content with the domain, existing ads, and ad group keywords. This means a page that has an accurate title, descriptive body copy, and a clear offer gives the system more material to work with than a page dominated by images or sparse text.
Sample size and timing
The interface supplies a representative sample of up to 10 headline and description examples. Google says generation is mostly completed in under 30 seconds. The number and wording shown in the panel should not be interpreted as the full set of assets that could be created later.
Language and category coverage
Google states that examples are available in all languages supported by text customization and names English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, German, Japanese, and Dutch as examples. The feature covers almost all standard business categories; adult content is called out as an exception.
Text guidelines
Google documents text guidelines as a pilot feature. Where the control is available, you can add terms to exclude or themes to avoid before generating the preview. Rules are applied to the sample-generation process: if the restrictions eliminate every possible asset, Google Ads prompts you to adjust or remove them. Because the control is described as a pilot, its presence and exact placement should not be assumed in every account.
How to judge what you see
Read each example against the actual landing page and the ad group’s intent. Look for a promise that the page does not support, a price or promotion that has expired, a location you do not serve, or a legal qualifier that has been omitted. Also check capitalization, product names, trademark-sensitive terms, and any wording that could be misleading out of context.
A clean preview does not remove the need for normal ad review. Google’s generated text is based on the information it can find, so correcting the source page is often more effective than trying to work around a single suggestion. If the page has outdated metadata or ambiguous copy, update the page and request a new preview.
What the preview cannot tell you
- It is not an exhaustive inventory. Google says previews do not show every possible combination.
- You cannot select a guaranteed future combination. The preview does not let you filter the final ad to one specific combination.
- A displayed combination is not guaranteed to serve. Google’s wording is explicit: “Previews do not guarantee the final ad appearance.”
- It is not a performance forecast. Seeing a headline in the panel does not establish that it will earn impressions, clicks, conversions, or better results.
Use the panel for qualitative checks—relevance, accuracy, and brand safety—not as approval of every future rendering or as a substitute for performance reporting.

Why a generated asset may differ after launch
Google says customized text assets serve only when its systems predict that they will perform better than the advertiser-provided headlines and descriptions. That is a product description, not a guarantee of improved results or factual accuracy. Google also says generated assets are reviewed and refreshed as needed at least every 48 hours.
The ad-level final URL is the primary page used for generation. Keyword-level final URLs can be used, but Google notes that asset generation may be limited in that arrangement. If your ad uses different destination URLs by keyword, the resulting assets may be fewer or may reflect the ad-level page rather than every keyword-specific destination.
Where to identify generated assets after launch
Once the campaign is running, use reporting rather than the setup preview to determine what actually served.

Preview links are not the same as text-customization samples
Google’s general ad-preview documentation also describes previews inside the Google Ads interface and shareable previews for people who do not use Google Ads. A shareable preview link remains active for 14 days and cannot be renewed after it expires. Those links are intended for viewing a creative preview; they should not be confused with the Search text-customization sample panel, which generates example headlines and descriptions from a campaign’s landing-page and ad inputs.

No examples appear because there is no URL
Enter the final landing page URL in the preview panel and run Preview examples again. Use the page that the ad will actually send users to, not a general home page chosen only for convenience.

The panel returns no usable assets after guidelines are added
Overly restrictive exclusions or avoided themes can block every candidate. Remove the least important restriction or broaden the allowed wording, then regenerate. Because text guidelines are documented as a pilot, your account may show a different control set.
Only a few assets are generated
Check the destination page for thin or inaccessible content. Google says landing pages with limited content should be expected to yield fewer generated assets. Review the ad-level final URL as well, especially when keyword-level URLs are configured.
The preview takes longer than expected
Google says generation is mostly under 30 seconds, not that every request completes within that time. Wait for the panel to finish, verify the URL, and retry. If the delay persists, inspect the campaign in the current Google Ads interface because labels and AI Max controls may have changed.
The menu labels do not match an older guide
Look for Asset optimization, text customization, AI Max, or a generated asset preview. Google’s naming has changed from automatically created assets, and the rollout of AI Max controls can change the surrounding settings.
The generated copy does not match a keyword-specific page
Google identifies the ad-level final URL as the basis for generation and warns that keyword-level final URLs can limit asset generation. Confirm which URL is attached at the ad level and make sure its content reflects the products and claims you want represented.

Google’s Help documentation says campaigns using text customization, formerly automatically created assets, would automatically upgrade to AI Max beginning in September 2026. That date has passed, but the documentation does not establish that every account has completed migration. Check the campaign’s current settings and labels instead of relying on legacy screenshots or assuming that an older menu path still exists.
A practical review checklist
- Confirm that the campaign is a Search campaign and identify whether you are creating it or editing it.
- Open Asset optimization or the existing campaign’s generated asset preview.
- Use the ad-level final landing page URL.
- Generate the sample with Preview examples.
- Read each headline and description against the live page, current offer, service area, and brand terminology.
- Apply available text guidelines, remembering that they may be a pilot and can eliminate every example if too restrictive.
- Do not treat the sample as a complete list or a guarantee of the final combination.
- After launch, use Added by → Google AI, campaign-level asset reporting, and Combination Reporting to see what served.
- Review the landing page whenever generated copy is incomplete, inaccurate, or unexpectedly sparse.
This workflow separates two decisions that are easy to confuse: previewing what Google may create and opting into the feature that can serve those assets. Preview first, correct the source information, then use post-launch reporting to judge the assets that were actually delivered.
