Prevent SQL injection by keeping SQL code separate from user-supplied values: write the query structure first, then pass each value through a prepared statement or the framework’s parameter-binding API. Validate inputs for business rules and limit database permissions as additional safeguards, but do not rely on filtering, escaping, an ORM, or a stored procedure to make an unsafe query safe.
Why SQL injection happens
SQL injection commonly occurs when an application builds a query by joining SQL text with data from a request, form, URL, or other untrusted source. The resulting string can let that data change what the database executes. OWASP’s SQL Injection Prevention Cheat Sheet describes the safer invariant: define the SQL first and pass values separately as parameters.
Use parameterized queries for data values
A placeholder marks where a value belongs; the database driver receives the value separately rather than treating SQL-looking characters inside it as query syntax. For example, OWASP illustrates this Java pattern:
String query = "SELECT account_balance FROM user_data WHERE user_name = ?";
PreparedStatement statement = connection.prepareStatement(query);
statement.setString(1, custname);
Here the username is bound as data. Adapt the syntax to your language and database driver, and use the driver’s binding API consistently for every untrusted value. OWASP’s Query Parameterization Cheat Sheet shows that the same principle applies across query interfaces.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Frameworks and ORMs still need binding
Use the parameter-binding facility provided by your framework or ORM rather than assembling a query from strings. An abstraction layer does not remove injection risk if untrusted text is concatenated into its query language. OWASP includes named-parameter examples for HQL; the key is still to keep values separate from executable query structure.
Handle identifiers and sort order separately
Bind parameters represent values, not pieces of SQL structure. A placeholder generally cannot stand in for a table name, column name, or keyword such as ASC or DESC. Keep those choices in trusted application code. If a user can choose a sort field or direction, map the request to a finite set of known identifiers or enum values, then construct the query using only that trusted mapping. Arbitrary identifier concatenation is a design smell; redesign the query where feasible. See OWASP’s Injection Prevention Cheat Sheet for the distinction between bindable values and query structure.

Stored procedures are not automatically safe
A stored procedure can protect against injection when its implementation handles values safely, much like a parameterized query. But a procedure that builds and executes unsafe dynamic SQL can still be injectable. Review the procedure’s internals instead of treating “stored procedure” as a security guarantee. OWASP considers safely implemented stored procedures and prepared statements equally effective; choose the pattern your project can maintain and review reliably, while preserving the code/data boundary.
Validate inputs, but do not use validation as the SQL defense
Validation should enforce application requirements: expected types, ranges, formats, and allowed choices. It can reject unexpected data, but it does not replace parameter binding. In particular, rejecting apostrophes as a SQL-injection defense can exclude legitimate names without making a concatenated query safe. OWASP’s Input Validation Cheat Sheet treats validation as a complementary control.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Avoid blanket recommendations to escape all user input. OWASP strongly discourages this as a general defense because escaping is fragile and depends on database-specific context. If a legacy constraint temporarily prevents parameterization, treat escaping as a limited stopgap and prioritize a safe query redesign.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Limit database privileges
Use database accounts with only the permissions an application, or a specific application function, requires. A read-only operation should not use an account with write permissions it does not need, and an application should not connect as a database administrator. Least privilege does not prevent injection, but it can limit what an attacker can do after exploiting it. OWASP’s Secure Database Access checklist recommends the lowest possible database privilege alongside parameterized queries and validation.

Review SQL injection defenses
- Search query construction and execution paths for concatenation involving request, form, URL, or other untrusted data.
- Confirm that every untrusted data value reaches SQL through a prepared statement or framework parameter binding.
- Inspect ORM queries and stored procedures for unsafe dynamic SQL.
- Check that any user-selectable identifier or sort option maps to a finite set of trusted choices.
- Keep input validation for business constraints; do not use rejected-character lists as the SQL defense.
- Compare database account permissions with each function’s actual read and write needs.
- Avoid exposing detailed database errors to external users; retain safe logs for diagnosis.
