For a sequence of separate videos, use a VLC Video source, add the files as a playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. Keep OBS sending one continuous feed to YouTube Live rather than stopping the encoder between clips. Test the complete sequence first: looping repeats content, but the documented OBS controls do not guarantee a zero-frame or zero-audio gap when switching between distinct files.
Choose the playback setup for your rerun

OBS documents these source controls in its Media Sources guide. If you use 64-bit OBS, OBS specifies that you need 64-bit VLC for the VLC Video source.

Connect OBS to the YouTube Live event
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the live stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from the event’s encoder settings. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose the YouTube service or configure the server as prompted, and enter the URL and key if the setup requires them. The stream key identifies the feed YouTube should accept; treat it like a credential and do not share it.
- Set up the playback source in your OBS scene. For one local video, add a Media Source, select the file, and enable Loop. For multiple local videos, add a VLC Video source, populate its playlist in the intended order, and enable Loop Playlist.
- Start sending the encoder feed, then inspect the preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room before taking the event live. Check that both picture and audio are present. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder in advance and monitoring the stream; see its live streaming tips.
- Leave OBS streaming while the source advances through the files. YouTube’s encoder instructions say a stream ends when you stop sending content from the encoder or end it in the Control Room. The practical implication is to keep the encoder session active across every clip change.
Test for gaps before the rerun
Run the actual files through the actual OBS scene before scheduling or announcing a long rerun. A setting that loops a source is not proof that two different files hand off seamlessly.

- Watch the end of every clip and the start of the next, including the last-to-first transition.
- Listen across each boundary for missing audio, silence, a sudden volume change, or sound continuing over black video.
- Check that the scene does not reveal an empty or hidden source while a file changes.
- If a clip itself has a black tail or silent padding, trim or edit it. If the playback workflow supports it, a short slate or transition can cover a visible handoff; test it to confirm it does not introduce its own pause.
- Confirm YouTube’s preview shows the expected picture and sound and that the live archive is growing. YouTube’s streaming tips also discuss backup encoders and stream-quality checks.
What YouTube settings can—and cannot—fix
The stream URL and key connect OBS’s encoder output to the YouTube Live event. They do not make a playlist or control when one video file changes to another; that sequencing belongs to the OBS playback source.

YouTube’s Auto-start and Auto-stop options apply to certain encoder workflows, while Live Redirect is for sending viewers to a Premiere after a live stream ends. Live Redirect is not a way to sequence clips inside one continuous rerun. YouTube says viewers may need to wait about two seconds for the watch page to reload during that handoff. Fix common playback and stream problems
The video plays once and stops
Check the source type and its repeat control: enable Loop on the Media Source for one file, or Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source for a playlist.

The VLC Video source is unavailable or does not play
Confirm VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS. OBS specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS. Then verify the playlist paths point to files that are accessible on the streaming computer.

Do not stop OBS or end the YouTube event at each file boundary. Keep the encoder feed running while the OBS source changes files. YouTube’s broadcast lifecycle is tied to the encoder sending content or the event being ended in the Control Room.

There is still a brief black frame or silence at a file change
Loop controls establish repeat behavior; they do not certify frame-accurate transitions between separate files. Test the sequence, inspect the files for black or silent padding, and edit those tails or add a tested transition if needed.
YouTube’s preview has no picture or sound
Check that OBS is sending the intended scene and that the source is visible and playing, then inspect the preview and audio before taking the event live. YouTube recommends advance setup and monitoring in its live streaming tips.

Keep the rerun appropriate for YouTube
Using a playlist or repeating a file does not grant rights to the game footage, soundtrack, or other included material. Make sure you have permission to stream the content and review YouTube’s copyright and live-stream requirements for your channel and material. A technical loop setting cannot resolve a rights or policy issue.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, according to its encoder-streaming guidance. That is an archive rule, not a recommendation that every rerun should be shorter or longer.
