To reduce burn-in risk on an OLED gaming monitor, avoid leaving bright, high-contrast interface elements fixed in place for long periods, enable the monitor’s built-in OLED protections, and let its automatic panel-care routine finish. Use the settings and maintenance steps for your exact model: controls, cleaning behavior, and warranty coverage vary by monitor.
Why fixed game and desktop elements matter
OLED burn-in risk is associated with prolonged display of static, high-contrast content. A game HUD, minimap, health bar, taskbar, or window that stays bright and in the same position for extended sessions is more relevant than content that changes regularly. ASUS describes prolonged static high-contrast images as a risk, while LG notes that static elements can cause temporary image marks after extended display.

A faint mark is not, by itself, proof of permanent panel damage. Manufacturers distinguish temporary image retention from burn-in, and the cited guidance does not provide a universal test for diagnosing permanent damage from a photo or brief inspection.

Set up the monitor’s protection features
Check the monitor’s on-screen display (OSD) and any companion software for controls such as OLED Care, Screen Protection, Pixel Shift or Screen Move, Screen Saver, logo dimming, and other brightness-management features. Names and availability vary by model. ASUS documents these options for the product series covered by its support guidance; consult your own monitor’s manual rather than assuming every OLED monitor has the same menu or defaults. ASUS OLED monitor protection and warranty guidance and the ASUS ROG OLED Care guide describe ASUS-specific controls.

- Samsung’s 27” Odyssey OLED G6 Gaming Monitor is engineered for perfection with a QD-OLED Display featuring QHD resolution made to deliver high brightness and a wide range of colors for gameplay
- OLED Safeguard technology supports performance by actively helping to prevent burn-in with a thermal modulation system

- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadows for added depth and more realistic scenes
Reduce static screen time during play and breaks
- Use a screen saver or power-saving setting that blanks or changes the display when the computer is idle.
- Turn off the monitor when you leave for a longer break instead of leaving a static desktop or paused game on screen.
- When practical, move or hide persistent windows and interface elements, or use game settings that reduce fixed HUD elements.
- Avoid keeping the same bright interface in one position for unnecessarily long periods. Normal gaming use does not call for constant manual intervention; focus on long stretches of unchanged content.
ASUS’s daily-care guidance recommends a black-screen power-saving mode or dynamic screen saver, switching the display off when leaving, and periodically moving window content. These are practical ways to reduce unchanged screen time, not guarantees against all panel wear. ASUS Daily Monitor Care
Let automatic panel cleaning run as directed
Pixel or image cleaning is a maintenance routine, not a setting to run repeatedly in response to every faint mark. The timing and behavior differ by model, so follow the manufacturer’s instructions and allow an automatic cycle to complete. ASUS says the cleaning process described in its support FAQ takes about six minutes, may start when the monitor is turned off, and should not be interrupted by unplugging the display. LG says standard models run Image Cleaning automatically after more than four hours of use since the previous cleaning when entering power-saving mode or being turned off. Those figures describe the manufacturers’ respective instructions, not a universal OLED schedule. ASUS’s instructions; LG monitor Image Cleaning guidance.

What to do if a mark appears
- Turn the monitor off and back on, then see whether the mark remains. Temporary image retention may clear; a brief observation cannot establish permanent burn-in.
- Use the model’s recommended image-cleaning option only if the mark persists and the manual or support instructions recommend it. LG’s guidance directs users with persistent marks to OLED Care and Image Cleaning.
- If the mark remains after the manufacturer’s prescribed process, contact the manufacturer’s support channel. Do not assume that repeated cleaning will reverse permanent panel damage.
Check burn-in coverage before relying on a warranty
Warranty terms are specific to the monitor model and sales region. ASUS’s product page states that the ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDPR has a three-year warranty covering OLED burn-in. ASUS’s global policy FAQ lists a 36-month warranty for the PG32UCDM and different terms for older models. These examples do not establish coverage for every ASUS monitor, every country, or other manufacturers. Check the warranty documentation for the exact model and region before purchase or when making a claim. PG27AQDPR product and warranty information; ASUS OLED monitor warranty policy
Choosing an OLED gaming monitor with care in mind
There is no comparative burn-in-resistance ranking established by the cited manufacturer materials. If you are comparing models, check the protection controls included on the exact model, the automatic maintenance routine and how it affects use, and the warranty’s duration, burn-in language, and regional terms. These details can guide ownership expectations, but they do not show that one current OLED gaming monitor is inherently more resistant than another.
