Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallTo keep a 24/7 YouTube stream from going blank between clips, configure the video source to loop in OBS: enable Loop for one repeating file, or use a VLC Video source with Loop Playlist for several clips. Then verify a complete playback cycle in YouTube’s live preview and watch the outgoing stream. A loop setting handles playback ending; it does not prevent unrelated scene, encoding, network, or decoding failures.
Choose the right OBS source for your videos
| What you want to play | OBS source | Setting | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| One video repeatedly | Media Source | Enable Loop | A local video file |
| Several videos in sequence | VLC Video | Enable Loop Playlist | VLC installed; add the clips to the source playlist |
OBS documents that a Media Source can repeat a file after it completes, while a VLC Video source can restart its playlist when it runs out. See the OBS documentation for Media Sources and VLC Video sources.

Set a single video to repeat
- In OBS, add or select the scene that will be sent to YouTube. Add a Media Source and choose the video file you want to play.
- Open the Media Source properties and turn on Loop. OBS documents that this option is off by default.
- Check Show nothing when playback ends. If the source is not looping, this option can make it disappear when the file finishes; a loop is the relevant setting when the video should repeat.
- Confirm the source is visible in the scene and positioned and sized as intended.
Loop a playlist of videos
- Install VLC if it is not already installed; OBS’s VLC Video source depends on VLC libraries.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source and add the video files in the order you want them to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist in the source properties so the playlist restarts after its final clip.
- Check that the source is visible in the active scene. Use shuffle only if you want clips to play in a changing order rather than the listed sequence.
Verify the stream before relying on it
- In YouTube Live Control Room, open the stream preview and check that it receives the intended picture and audio. YouTube recommends testing with representative movement and sound, checking playback on watch pages and mobile, and monitoring audio and video quality. See YouTube live streaming tips.
- Let the video or playlist reach its end and confirm the next playback begins without a blank interval in the outgoing stream. Check more than the OBS canvas: the YouTube preview or watch page is where you can verify what viewers receive.
- For an encoder connection, enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in the encoder as described in YouTube’s encoder setup guidance. Auto-start and auto-stop are separate live-stream settings, not substitutes for looping the source; see Manage live stream settings.
Troubleshoot a blank screen between clips
- The video disappears at the end: Confirm Loop is enabled for a single Media Source, or Loop Playlist for VLC Video. For a Media Source, check whether Show nothing when playback ends is enabled.
- The playlist stops after its last clip: Check that the source is VLC Video, that the clips are in its playlist, and that Loop Playlist is enabled. Confirm VLC is installed.
- OBS shows the video but YouTube does not: Verify the correct scene is live, then check the encoder’s YouTube server URL and stream key. Reopen the Live Control Room preview and inspect the outgoing stream.
- The source is missing or covered: Make sure it is in the active scene, visible, and not obscured by another source. Confirm its sizing and crop.
- The source is configured to loop but playback still fails: Looping addresses a file or playlist reaching its end. It does not guarantee recovery from a media-decoding issue, encoder problem, network interruption, or other scene failure; inspect the preview and monitor audio and video quality.
Set the audience accurately for a kids’ stream
Choose the audience setting that accurately reflects the stream. YouTube says that a live stream designated Made for Kids has features including live chat, live chat replay, comments on archives and upcoming streams, Super Chat, and reminder notifications for upcoming streams disabled. Personalized ads are disabled, though contextual ads may be shown. Do not plan around chat interaction or reminder notifications for a stream with this designation. See YouTube’s live-stream restrictions guidance.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want the stream to continue without leaving OBS or a computer running at home, StreamNeo keeps uploaded videos live on YouTube from the cloud: upload your video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos, not a live camera feed. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
