The one advance task Blizzard calls out is to start the Nebulous Voidcore quest chain before realm maintenance during the week of October 6, 2026. Accept “In the Catalyst’s Shadow” from Decimus in Voidstorm, then pick up and turn in “Prismatic Potential” with Orin Straylight in Silvermoon City. That starts Orin’s research, which unlocks a way to obtain one additional Nebulous Voidcore each week.
Do this before the week-of-October 6 maintenance
- In Voidstorm, accept “In the Catalyst’s Shadow” from Decimus.
- Travel to Silvermoon City and accept “Prismatic Potential” from Orin Straylight.
- Turn in “Prismatic Potential.” Blizzard says a progress timer will appear above Orin while his research is underway.
- After the research completes during the week of October 6, return to Orin and complete “Umbral Blessings of the Catalyst.” This unlocks the option to trade gold, Voidlight Marl, or Veteran Mistcrests for one additional Nebulous Voidcore per week.
Blizzard’s October 1, 2026 12.1.5 Content Update Notes say the update arrives October 13, 2026, and call out the earlier maintenance window for beginning the research. Maintenance schedules vary by region, so check the official notice for your realm and confirm the quest state in game.

Choose what to focus on in 12.1.5
There is no universal gear or inventory checklist in Blizzard’s preparation instructions. Instead, choose activities based on whether you want story, a raid, solo or companion content, public events, Prey progression, or class changes.
For story: begin “The Promise of Tomorrow”
The new campaign continues events in Quel’Thalas and Zul’Aman and leads to Kith’ix. If narrative progression is your priority, make the campaign your first destination after the update goes live.

For a raid: choose a difficulty and group plan
The Unbinding of Kith’ix is a single-boss raid with Story Mode, Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic, and Mythic difficulties. Mythic supports a flexible group of 15–25 players. The official notes do not establish a required item level, so choose a difficulty and group that fit your character and availability rather than relying on an unsupported power threshold.
For a longer solo or companion run: try the Labyrinth of Kindo’jan
This nine-chamber, Delve-like challenge includes Valeera Sanguinar as a companion and rewards that include Mythic gear. You can complete it in one session or progress wing by wing. A completed wing can still award rewards; going farther offers more treasure opportunities, but also carries greater risk. The format is useful if you want flexible pacing rather than a fixed-length group activity.
Rank #2
- A pre paid, 60 day subscription to world of warcraft
- Requires world of warcraft standard game box contains game card only
For more detail on the activity’s structure, see Blizzard’s Labyrinth overview.
For outdoor group content: join an Aqir Invasion
Aqir Invasions occur in Eversong or Zul’Aman. Each event runs for ten minutes every hour, with public objectives leading to a boss encounter. Blizzard describes six scenario types, and combat scenarios can include affixes. The hourly schedule makes these a natural option for a shorter session or an open-world group activity.

For Prey catch-up: check your rank and weekly hunts
The progress granted by hunts depends on your Journey rank and how many hunts you have completed that week:
| Current Journey rank | Progress from a hunt | Weekly condition |
|---|---|---|
| Below rank 4 | 4,000 Journey progress, equal to one full rank | Each hunt awards this amount and takes precedence over progress from the first four weekly hunts. |
| Ranks 4–9 | 2,000 Journey progress | Applies to each of the first four hunts of the week. |
Blizzard says these changes are intended to help new, returning, and less-invested Season 2 players catch up. A developer note in the October 1 patch notes explains the aim is to let those players engage without feeling they cannot catch up. The practical choice is to check your current rank and remaining weekly hunts before deciding how much time to put into Prey.

For class changes: read your specialization’s patch notes
The update includes class and specialization adjustments. Review the notes for the character you plan to play, then recheck the notes and hotfixes around launch because tuning can change. The published adjustments alone do not establish a recommended build or rotation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesMatch the activity to your available time and group
- Prefer story: start with “The Promise of Tomorrow.”
- Have a coordinated group: decide which Unbinding of Kith’ix difficulty suits your roster and schedule.
- Want flexible solo or companion play: enter the Labyrinth and choose whether to stop after a wing or continue deeper.
- Have a short window or want public group play: look for the next Aqir Invasion in Eversong or Zul’Aman.
- Working on Prey: use your current rank and weekly hunt count to estimate the value of another hunt.
- Changing your main or specialization: check its class notes before settling on a play plan.
