Before installing an OriginOS update, back up important data, connect to stable Wi-Fi, and check for the update through your phone’s Settings. Confirm the release is intended for your exact Vivo model and region. Do not download or install firmware manually unless Vivo provides instructions for your device; those steps are different from a normal over-the-air (OTA) update.
Back up important data
Save important files and information to storage before upgrading. Vivo recommends backing up before a system update. A preview announcement for OriginOS 6 also urged participants to make a comprehensive, effective backup, even though that particular preview was expected not to erase data. That assurance applies to that preview only; it is not a promise that every OriginOS update preserves data.

Vivo’s general guidance does not specify one required backup method. Choose storage you can access and verify that the files you care about are there before proceeding.
Connect to stable Wi-Fi
Vivo recommends Wi-Fi because system updates can use substantial data. Its OriginOS 6 preview instructions specifically call for a stable Wi-Fi connection. Use a reliable network for the download rather than relying on mobile data unless you have checked your data allowance.

Check for the update on your phone
- Connect to Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Open Settings and tap System update.
- Let the phone check for a newer version, then follow the on-screen instructions if an update is offered.
Menu names and locations may differ by model or software version. Use the update screen on your own phone as the guide; do not assume another Vivo model’s menu path is identical.
Confirm model and regional availability
An update may not be offered to every Vivo phone at the same time. Vivo says OTA updates are implemented in certain regions after launch, and availability can depend on the device and its software version. Check the phone’s System update screen and local Vivo support information. If no update appears, that does not by itself establish that the phone is ineligible; the release may not yet be available for its model or region.

Choose the right installation route
For an ordinary OTA update, use the update offered through Settings > System update. You do not need to download a firmware file or use a local-upgrade procedure for this route.

Vivo’s firmware tutorial describes downloading the package that matches the phone, keeping it compressed, placing it in the root of phone storage or on an SD card, and using the local-upgrade route. Follow those steps only when Vivo’s instructions apply to your exact model and situation; do not substitute a package or procedure intended for another device.

Battery guidance depends on the installation method
Vivo’s firmware-installation tutorial recommends battery capacity above 30%. That figure belongs to the manual firmware procedure, not a universal OriginOS OTA requirement. The OriginOS 6 preview announcement specifies backup and stable Wi-Fi but does not state a battery threshold. Follow any battery guidance shown for the update or in Vivo’s instructions for your device.

Check for app updates if the instructions for your release or program tell you to. For example, Vivo’s X200 Pro preview announcement instructed participants to update apps through Google Play after upgrading. That direction was specific to the preview program, not a general requirement established for every OriginOS release.
