Choose a playback method
An ordered OBS playlist is the simplest documented way to play separate local files without first combining them. FFmpeg concatenation is an alternative when the inputs have matching streams and timing characteristics.

For a first setup, use OBS unless you have a reason to create a concatenated output and have confirmed that the source files are compatible.
Prepare and verify the video files
Make a clear run order
Put the files in the intended broadcast order and keep a written run sheet. Use filenames that identify the language and title, and note the intended audio and subtitle tracks. A track numbered 1 in one file may not be the desired track in another.

Check language, audio, and subtitles
Play a representative portion of every file. Confirm that the Telugu or Tamil audio you intend is audible, that subtitles are the intended language, and that they are legible and synchronized when used. The official documentation does not define a special codec or track-number convention for Telugu or Tamil; choose tracks based on the contents of each file.
Confirm usage rights
Before broadcasting, confirm that you have the rights to use each video, soundtrack, and subtitle file. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance also asks creators to follow its Community Guidelines. No general checklist can determine whether your particular files are cleared for broadcast.
Set up an ordered OBS playlist
- Install OBS Studio and VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC. For 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. See the OBS VLC Video Source guide.
- Add the source. In the OBS scene you will stream, add a VLC Video source and add your media files in the order on your run sheet.
- Set playlist behavior. Keep shuffle off for a fixed order. Enable Loop Playlist if you want the sequence to restart after its final file; leave it off if the program should end there. Looping the list is not a guarantee of mathematically gap-free audio and video at each handoff.
- Choose tracks for the files. Use the source’s audio-track and subtitle controls where needed. Check each file individually rather than assuming the same track number works throughout.
- Test the whole sequence. Preview representative sections and, if practical, play the complete run. Pay particular attention to the end of one file and start of the next, changes in audio level, missing tracks, subtitles, and whether the playlist restarts as intended.
Alternative: concatenate compatible files with FFmpeg
FFmpeg’s concat demuxer reads a text list of files and presents their packets in sequence as if they had been muxed together. The files must have the same streams, codecs, and time base; duration information also matters because timestamps are adjusted using file durations. Inaccurate durations can result in gaps or artifacts. Consult the FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation and validate the resulting output before using it in a live program.

Use this method only after checking the files’ stream layouts and compatibility. It is not a fix for mismatched codecs, differing stream layouts, or uncertain durations. OBS playlist playback avoids creating a combined file, but its transitions also need to be tested with the actual media.
Configure YouTube live ingest
Create the event and protect the key
- Set up the live stream in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings. The key authorizes the encoder to send video to YouTube; keep it private.
- Use YouTube’s preview and stream-health messages to confirm that the feed reaches the event before you make it public or start the scheduled broadcast.
YouTube recommends RTMPS for live ingestion. Encoder ingest settings are distinct from settings for uploading a finished video.
Choose encoder settings for the live feed
YouTube’s published encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingest, frame rates up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended 2-second keyframe interval that should not exceed 4 seconds. Choose resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate based on your program and a connection that can sustain the upload rate. YouTube’s live encoder settings include bitrate recommendations by resolution, frame rate, and codec.

For H.264, YouTube lists 5 Mbps recommended and 4 Mbps minimum for 1080p at 30 fps; for 1080p at 60 fps, it lists 14 Mbps recommended and 6 Mbps minimum. These are YouTube’s published values, not a promise that a given internet connection will remain stable. Run a speed test and leave capacity for normal network variation. For ordinary SDR, YouTube’s advanced guidance includes Rec. 709 color space and 8-bit depth.

Do not confuse upload settings with live settings
YouTube’s upload recommendations describe MP4, H.264, progressive scan, and AAC-LC, Opus, or Eclipsa Audio, and recommend uploading at the frame rate at which material was recorded. These are recommendations for uploaded videos, not a requirement to re-encode every file before using it as an OBS playlist source. Configure OBS for the live ingest path. See YouTube’s recommended upload encoding settings.
Run a preflight and monitor the broadcast
- Check that every file plays in the planned order and that the loop or ending behavior is correct.
- Verify the intended Telugu or Tamil audio and any subtitles in each file, including at least one section near a transition.
- Test with representative motion and audio before the event, then watch the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages.
- During the broadcast, keep an eye on audio and video quality. Check that viewers can access the event on the channel or watch page and on mobile devices.
- If you change a file, playlist order, track selection, or encoder setting, test the changed sequence again rather than assuming the earlier check still applies.
YouTube’s live streaming tips cover testing, previewing, and monitoring. A successful playlist preview alone does not establish that the YouTube ingest or public playback will remain healthy.

Troubleshoot common problems
The wrong language plays, or audio is missing
Likely cause: The selected track differs between files, or the source is set to a track that is absent or not the intended language. Fix: Check each file’s available tracks and source selection, then preview a section of every file.
Subtitles are missing or hard to read
Likely cause: The expected subtitle track is not selected, or the subtitles differ between files. Fix: Verify the subtitle controls and inspect legibility and synchronization in each source.

Likely cause: The playlist handoff or source files’ timing and layouts do not produce the transition you expect. FFmpeg concatenation can also show artifacts or gaps when durations are inaccurate or files do not meet its compatibility requirements. Fix: Test the actual boundary; check the files and durations, and use OBS playlist playback or a compatible, validated concatenation as appropriate. Neither method guarantees seamless transitions for arbitrary inputs.

YouTube reports poor stream health or viewers see interruptions
Likely cause: The connection cannot sustain the selected bitrate, or the encoder settings do not match the ingest guidance. Fix: Check YouTube’s stream-health messages, test upload capacity, and choose a bitrate the connection can sustain. Confirm CBR, the keyframe interval, and the selected codec in the encoder settings.
The event preview does not appear
Likely cause: The stream URL or key is incorrect, or OBS is not sending a feed to the event. Fix: Recheck the URL and key in the encoder settings and the status in Live Control Room. Treat the stream key as a credential; do not publish it.
