The listing does not provide a separate download-size number, measured installed footprint, shader-cache allowance or update allowance. Leave more than the stated minimum if your system drive is nearly full, because Windows, Steam and future patches also need working space.

Minimum means a listed 60-FPS target on Low
The minimum row is not a promise that every computer with one matching part will produce identical performance. It is a target for 1080p resolution, Low quality settings and 60 frames per second. Your result can vary with laptop power limits, background applications, driver versions, cooling and the exact model of a component. A desktop GTX 1060 and a low-power notebook GPU with a similar name are not automatically equivalent.

Recommended means more image quality and headroom
The recommended row is aimed at 1080p with Medium-High settings and a 60–120 FPS target. That range covers two different goals: a stable 60 FPS and a higher-refresh experience closer to 120 FPS. Reaching the upper end depends on the scene, settings and the rest of the system; Steam does not publish a benchmark showing how often 120 FPS is achieved.
DLSS and DLAA have an additional condition
Steam states that DLSS and DLAA require DirectX 12 and a compatible RTX GPU. Meeting the recommended GPU name alone is not a universal guarantee for every feature configuration, so plan to use the game’s ordinary resolution and quality controls if your graphics hardware does not support those technologies.
Storage: what the 5 GB figure really tells you
Available space is not the same as installed size
Steam shows 5 GB of available storage for both minimum and recommended configurations. Available space is a pre-install requirement: it tells Steam how much free capacity to reserve while downloading and installing. The listing does not say that the final game folder is exactly 5 GB. It also does not state whether later updates will increase the footprint.
Why you should leave a buffer
If your drive has only 5 GB free, the installation may compete with temporary download files, Windows update work space, shader caches and other applications. A practical preparation is to make substantially more than 5 GB available, without treating any particular larger number as an official requirement. After installation, check the actual folder size in Steam rather than assuming the reservation and final footprint are identical.

SSD guidance
The Steam listing strongly recommends an SSD. It does not identify a required interface, model or capacity, and it does not state that hard-disk installation is unsupported. An SSD can reduce loading friction, but this listing alone is not evidence that you should buy a new drive solely for this game. First check whether an existing SSD has enough free space.
Check your Windows edition, processor and RAM
Use these Windows steps before comparing your computer with the table.
- Press Windows + R, enter
msinfo32, and press Enter. In System Information, read OS Name, System Type, Processor and Installed Physical Memory (RAM). - Confirm that System Type says x64-based PC. The minimum listing is specifically Windows 10 64-bit; the recommended row allows Windows 10 or Windows 11 64-bit.
- Compare the processor model, not only the brand or clock speed. The listed minimum examples are Intel Core i5-8400 and AMD Ryzen 5 2600. Recommended examples are Intel Core i5-12400F and AMD Ryzen 5 5600.
- Check installed memory. 8 GB is the listed minimum and 16 GB is the listed recommendation. Close browsers, launchers and recording tools if you have only the minimum amount, because they consume part of that memory before the game starts.
- Open Settings > System > About as a second confirmation of the Windows edition and RAM. If the two views disagree, restart Windows and check for pending hardware or operating-system changes before troubleshooting the game.
Processor names are reference points supplied by the listing, not a complete equivalency chart. Do not replace a working CPU merely because its model number is different; the available specification does not establish performance for every alternative.

Find the active GPU
- Right-click the Start button and open Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters and note every adapter. On a laptop, one entry may be integrated graphics and another a discrete GPU.
- Open Task Manager > Performance > GPU while a 3D application is running to see which adapter is doing the work. Set the game to the higher-performance adapter in Windows graphics settings if the wrong one is selected.
- Compare the model with the listed examples: GTX 1060 3 GB or RX 580 for minimum; RTX 3060 6 GB or RX 6700 XT for recommended. The names are alternatives, not parts that must be installed together.
Verify DirectX
- Press Windows + R, type
dxdiag, and press Enter. - On the System tab, read DirectX Version. The current listing specifies DirectX 12 for both tiers.
- Review the Display tabs for feature-level and driver information. A DirectX 12 line by itself does not prove that every optional feature is supported; the GPU and its driver still matter.
Update the graphics driver through the GPU manufacturer’s normal support channel before diagnosing launch or rendering problems. Restart after installation so Windows loads the new driver.

Can your existing PC run it?
Use a component-by-component comparison rather than a single yes-or-no label. A computer that meets the minimum CPU but has less than 8 GB RAM, no DirectX 12 support or an unsupported 32-bit Windows installation does not satisfy the complete minimum configuration. Conversely, a different processor or GPU may perform well, but the listing does not provide measured equivalence for unlisted models.

If all minimum checks pass, select 1080p Low first and use the 60-FPS target as a tuning goal. If the recommended checks pass, begin at Medium-High and adjust individual settings if frame pacing is uneven. Neither path is an independently tested guarantee.
Prepare the drive and install safely
- Open File Explorer > This PC and check the free-space figure on the drive where your Steam library is located.
- Empty the Recycle Bin and remove unneeded temporary files through Settings > System > Storage > Temporary files. Do not delete personal files you still need.
- In Steam, open Steam > Settings > Storage and identify the library that will hold the game. Choose an SSD library when one is already available.
- Start the installation and watch the download and required-space indicators. If Steam reports insufficient capacity, stop and free space before moving the library; do not assume the 5 GB line is the final folder size.
- After installation, open the game’s properties and use Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files if Steam reports missing or damaged data.
Keep the Steam client and Windows fully updated. Avoid installing to a drive that is failing, encrypted by an organization with restrictive policies, or shared with a nearly full paging file; those conditions can create symptoms that look like game-specific faults.
First-launch settings for a minimum-spec system
Start with the published target
Choose 1920×1080 if your monitor and GPU can sustain it, set the preset to Low, and enable a 60-FPS cap when the game offers one. A cap can make frame delivery steadier and reduce unnecessary GPU load. If 1080p is unstable, lower resolution or use a resolution scale only after confirming that the game is using the intended GPU.

Reduce load methodically
- Close overlays, browser windows, capture software and other launchers.
- Lower shadows, effects, volumetrics and view-distance options one at a time so you can identify the setting that changes performance.
- Keep textures within the GPU’s available video memory. The minimum GPU example has 3 GB, so an ultra texture setting can cause swapping even when average FPS appears acceptable.
- Monitor frame rate and frame-time consistency in the game’s own counter or a trusted overlay. Treat the result as your computer’s behavior, not as a universal benchmark for the listed hardware.
Recommended-spec tuning and image-quality features
With hardware around the recommended examples, begin at 1080p Medium-High and test a 60-FPS cap before pursuing 120 FPS. A 120-Hz display is useful only when the system can deliver frames consistently. If the game exposes DLSS or DLAA, those options require DirectX 12 and a compatible RTX GPU according to Steam. They are optional features, not prerequisites for launching on every recommended configuration.
When frame rates fluctuate, lower the most expensive settings first rather than dropping every option to Low. Keep a note of each change and test the same scene or corridor for a meaningful comparison. The official listing contains no scene-based benchmark, so avoid treating a short test as proof of performance everywhere.

Steam says there is not enough disk space
- Confirm the selected Steam library drive, not just the Windows system drive.
- Free additional space and restart Steam so its capacity check refreshes.
- Check whether another download, update or Windows process is consuming the drive.
- Move the library through Steam > Settings > Storage if an existing SSD has room.
The game will not launch or reports a DirectX error
- Run
dxdiagand verify DirectX 12 is present. - Install pending Windows updates and the latest stable graphics driver for the active GPU.
- Verify the game files in Steam.
- Remove temporary overclocking and test with overlays disabled. If the error persists, record the exact message and your GPU model rather than guessing at a replacement.
Performance is below the target
- Confirm that the discrete GPU, not integrated graphics, is rendering the game.
- Check RAM use and close background applications.
- Return to 1080p Low or Medium-High, depending on your tier, then change one setting at a time.
- Watch temperatures and clock speeds for throttling caused by dust, inadequate cooling or a laptop power mode.
Loading feels slow on a hard drive
The listing strongly recommends an SSD, so moving an existing installation to an SSD is the most relevant test. It is not stated that a hard drive is unsupported, and the listing gives no measured loading times. Do not infer a required SSD capacity from the 5 GB available-space figure.
Why older requirement pages may disagree
Captured older Steam listings show different fields: one version lists DirectX 11 and 3 GB storage in its minimum section, while the current English listing says DirectX 12 and 5 GB. Some translated snapshots also show different memory values. For a purchase or installation decision, use the live English listing at the time you act and record the date you checked it.

Steam displays the Early Access notice: "Games in Early Access are not complete and may or may not change further." That warning is important when planning hardware: CPU, GPU, memory and storage requirements can change during development. Recheck the store page after major updates instead of relying on an old screenshot or cached article.
Availability and what you can install now
The current Steam page presents a free demo called the Prologue. The full game, described as including Episode 1 and Episode 2, is planned for later. The English page currently shows January 20, 2027 as the planned release date and says the game is not yet available for download. Release dates and availability are volatile, so verify the live page before making room or planning a purchase.
Steam identifies FD Team as developer and publisher and describes the project as first-person psychological horror about a failed research expedition into the Backrooms. The Prologue’s availability does not establish the final game’s storage footprint or performance; use the published requirements as targets until a complete release provides updated specifications.

A practical preparation checklist
- Reserve more than the 5 GB Steam requirement on the intended library drive.
- Prefer an existing SSD, while understanding that Steam does not state SSD storage is mandatory.
- Confirm 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 and DirectX 12.
- Record your exact CPU, GPU, VRAM and RAM from Windows tools.
- Compare your parts with both requirement rows; do not assume an unlisted model is equivalent solely from its name.
- Update Windows, graphics drivers and Steam before first launch.
- Start at the tier’s stated resolution and quality target, then adjust one option at a time.
- Check the live English Steam listing again because requirements, availability and the planned date can change.
