Frozen Trail 2.0 went live on October 8, 2026. The practical way to prepare is to build a flexible in-game kit for Pendola Pass: carry a weapon suited to deliberate ranged fire or a heavy-ammo sidearm for close threats, keep movement and control gadgets available, and unlock the Outpost and Research Workstation so you can use the update’s amplified-weapon systems.
Embark has confirmed the setting and threat types, but not a universal best build, a specific cold-resistance item, or tested weapon rankings. Treat the loadouts below as role-based starting points rather than mandatory metas.

What Frozen Trail changes for your preparation
Pendola Pass is an old Italian village that once served as an Exodus transport hub beyond the Rust Belt. The official preview describes flash freezes cutting through the valley, while the Frigate is a close-quarters challenge built around internal passageways, locked routes and competing Raiders. That combination rewards a kit that can change engagement distance quickly instead of one narrow damage setup.

The Bully is aggressive and fast-moving; the Skulker stalks and attacks when you are distracted; and the live update post identifies the Hydra as a squad threat protecting the Emperor and the Frigate. Frozen Trail adds 22 quests, giving you several reasons to enter the new area while you develop your equipment.
#1 Best Overall
- ARC Raiders Deluxe Edition includes the base game and the following content: The Wanderer Set, including the following cosmetic items: “Valente” Outfit" “Pathfinder” Backpack,“Blanket Roll” Backpack Attachment.
- Plus: Character Cosmetic, Finger Gun Rapid Fire Emote, Cowboy Scrappy Body Type and Skin, 2 400 Raider Tokens.
Embark’s launch announcement says, “We don’t expect you to face the new frontier without the required gear.” In context, that is developer guidance to prepare before exploring, not a published checklist of mandatory items.
Choose weapons by documented role, not a supposed ranking
The two new firearms have clearly different jobs. The Stiletto uses light ammunition and is presented as an early-game alternative to the Renegade, with steady, deliberate shots at range. The Bantam is a heavy-ammo, snub-nosed revolver that Embark says is effective against both ARC and Raiders and can be fired from the hip.
| Weapon | Ammunition | Documented role | Preparation implication |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stiletto | Light ammo | Battle rifle for deliberate ranged shots; early-game alternative to the Renegade | Fits a player who wants controlled engagements and plans to manage distance. |
| Bantam | Heavy ammo | Snub-nosed revolver effective against ARC and Raiders, with hip-fire capability | Fits a player expecting sudden close fights or a need to react quickly without aiming down sights. |
When the Stiletto makes sense
Use the Stiletto as your ranged option when you can take time to line up shots. Pendola Pass’s open valley sections may give you sightlines, but the official material does not establish a damage value, effective range, recoil pattern or ammunition economy. Carry only the light ammunition you can justify for your route and avoid assuming that the rifle is automatically superior to an existing weapon.

When the Bantam makes sense
The Bantam’s documented strengths are its heavy ammunition, revolver format, effectiveness against ARC and Raiders, and hip-fire option. Those traits are relevant when a passage suddenly compresses the fight, particularly inside the Frigate. The sources do not provide damage tests or a time-to-kill comparison, so choose it for that role rather than because it has been proven to be the strongest sidearm.
A practical two-weapon decision
If your route emphasizes observation and deliberate shots, make the Stiletto your ranged anchor and reserve the second weapon for emergencies. If you expect tight interiors and frequent surprises, the Bantam gives you a documented close-response option. You can also build around whichever existing weapon you already use confidently; Frozen Trail’s official notes establish roles, not a required pairing.
Pack movement and control gadgets
Frozen Trail adds three relevant gadget functions: traversal with the Grapple Hook, and target or position control with the Tether Launcher and Yank Grenade. Embark explicitly advises players to stock up on Tethers and the Grapple Hook. That is developer advice, not proof that every expedition requires a fixed number.
Rank #2
| Gadget | Function described by Embark | How to plan around it |
|---|---|---|
| Grapple Hook | Reaches high spots, supports rappelling and crosses gaps | Take it when vertical routes, broken approaches or quick repositioning are part of your plan. |
| Tether Launcher | Connects points and helps control movement | Use it when you need to shape a route or limit how a target can move. |
| Yank Grenade | Roots targets or pulls them | Reserve it for moments when separating, stopping or repositioning a threat matters more than raw damage. |
Grapple Hook versus Snap Hook
The new Grapple Hook is not the same system as the existing Snap Hook. The Frozen Trail notes change Snap Hook range from 20 m to 18 m, increase durability consumption from 2% to 4% per use, and raise its power cost from 50 to 60. The notes describe Snap Hook as burst mobility and distinguish it from the newly added Grapple Hook, which is intended for reaching, rappelling and crossing gaps.

Select the tool that matches the route you are entering, and account for the revised Snap Hook costs if it is part of your established kit.
Prepare for flash freezes without inventing a counter
The official preview warns that brutal flash freezes cut through Pendola Pass’s valley. The available notes do not state their damage, timing, warning window, duration or a named item that negates them. There is therefore no verified “cold countermeasure” to add to a shopping list.
A sensible preparation is procedural: keep your route flexible, avoid committing every movement gadget before you understand the terrain, and be ready to leave an exposed position. Those are risk-management choices, not confirmed mechanics. Do not promise yourself immunity from a particular consumable or armor piece unless a later official note defines one.
Build for the Frigate’s close-quarters layout
The Frigate requires navigating internal passageways, unlocking paths and dealing with ARC and other Raiders at close range. Before entering, decide which tool in your kit handles each transition:
- Approach: Keep a ranged option available for deliberate shots before you enter a confined route.
- Doorways and corners: Have a close-response weapon such as the Bantam available if an enemy appears at short distance.
- Locked or separated routes: Reserve a Grapple Hook, Tether Launcher or Yank Grenade for movement and control rather than spending every charge during the approach.
- Competing Raiders: Remember that the Frigate is not only an ARC encounter; your plan must account for other Raiders in the same tight spaces.
The Frigate is described as demanding, but the sources do not establish an optimal room-by-room path. Learn its passageways as you play rather than relying on a claimed universal route.
Rank #3
Account for the named ARC threats
Bully
Embark describes the Bully as aggressive and fast-moving. Its recommended response is to use cover, time your response and land your shots. That advice favors a weapon you can handle accurately under pressure and a route with something between you and the target. It does not establish a specific gun, damage threshold or required gadget.
Skulker
The Skulker stalks and attacks when you are distracted. Keep your attention on nearby movement while interacting with objectives or checking routes, and avoid spending every control tool before an area is secure. The official description does not specify its detection range or a guaranteed way to reveal it.
Hydra
The live update post identifies the Hydra as a squad threat protecting the Emperor and the Frigate. Prepare for a coordinated encounter rather than assuming that one target will behave like a lone ARC unit. No official material supplied here gives Hydra health, attack values or a tested weapon counter, so do not build around an invented breakpoint.
Unlock the Outpost and Research Workstation
Amplified weapons are tied to the Outpost and its Research Workstation. Unlock the Outpost by completing its project. The workstation then provides access to weapon research and customization systems.
- Locate the Outpost project in your available progression objectives.
- Complete that project so the Outpost becomes available.
- Use the Research Workstation to access weapon research and customization.
- Apply the systems to the weapons you actually plan to carry into Pendola Pass.
This sequence matters because collecting a new weapon is not the same as having every research and customization option available. The official notes describe the workstation as the gateway to those systems; they do not publish a required research order or a best amplified-weapon configuration.
Use the revised Skill Tree deliberately
Frozen Trail revamps the Skill Tree to make choice and expression more central. The official notes describe a binary choice in the middle branch. At the end branch, you can select up to two of three skills after meeting the required point investment.
Rank #4
- Capture and Tame Dinosaurs: Discover over 100 different dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures on the island, finding ways to tame them into useful additions for your tribe's dyno herd
- Survive Above All: Hunger, thirst, basic safety, and protecting yourself from the weather are all part of the game
- Harvest, Hunt and Build: Cut down trees and turn them into a basic home, which you can quickly expand into a Jurassic estate. Hunt for meat, scavenge for plants (or start your own garden!)
- Customize Everything: An extensive crafting system invites you to mix and match materials scavenged from the island, while also modifying the colors, textures, shapes, and styles
- Explore the Island: Solve the mystery of The ARK as you explore this massive island, discovering Explorer's Notebooks (filled with clues!) throughout
Plan your points around the role you want your loadout to perform instead of selecting every option by habit. A mobility-oriented setup may value the branch that complements traversal, while a player focused on controlled fights may prefer skills that support that approach. The update notes do not provide a universal winning path, and they do not justify claiming that one branch is mandatory for Pendola Pass.

Manage ammunition and stash space
The maximum stash size is 328 slots without Expedition bonuses. That number is inventory context, not a recommendation to fill every slot. Use it to separate your preparation stock from the equipment you are taking on the next run.
- Match ammunition to the weapon roles you selected: light ammunition for the Stiletto and heavy ammunition for the Bantam.
- Keep enough room for quest items and newly acquired gear from the 22 Frozen Trail quests.
- Store alternate gadgets when you are testing routes instead of carrying every option on every expedition.
- Do not confuse a larger stash with a larger field loadout; the 328-slot figure applies to storage without Expedition bonuses.
There is no official ammunition quantity, gadget count or stash threshold that guarantees a successful run. Adjust the amount after you learn how quickly your chosen route consumes it.
Role-based loadout templates
These templates translate the documented item roles into starting plans. They are not tested rankings or mandatory builds.
| Template | Primary emphasis | Suggested documented tools | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ranged scout | Deliberate engagements and observation | Stiletto; Grapple Hook for high spots or gaps | Players who want to control distance and inspect routes before committing. |
| Frigate responder | Close-quarters reaction and control | Bantam; Tether Launcher or Yank Grenade | Players expecting interior passageways, sudden ARC contact and competing Raiders. |
| Flexible explorer | Movement plus a backup engagement role | Either new firearm; Grapple Hook plus one control gadget | Players learning Pendola Pass and adapting their kit after each run. |
The table deliberately leaves room for your existing weapons and personal handling. Official information supports the roles, not a numerical comparison between these templates.

- Confirm your progression state. Check whether the Outpost project is complete and whether the Research Workstation is available.
- Choose an engagement distance. Select the Stiletto for deliberate light-ammo ranged fire or the Bantam for a heavy-ammo revolver that works against ARC and Raiders and supports hip fire.
- Add one movement answer. Choose the Grapple Hook when your route needs height, rappelling or gap crossing. Keep Snap Hook’s revised 18 m range and higher costs in mind if you use it instead.
- Add one control answer. Take the Tether Launcher or Yank Grenade when rooting, pulling or connecting positions is more useful than another movement charge.
- Reserve resources for the objective. Do not spend every Tether or traversal charge before reaching the Frigate, an unlock path or another objective area.
- Check your ammunition categories. Carry the ammunition that matches your selected firearm and avoid filling storage with ammunition for weapons you are not taking.
- Review your Skill Tree choices. Make sure the middle-branch decision and end-branch selections support the way you intend to fight and move.
- Enter with a learning plan. Flash-freeze behavior, Frigate routing and Hydra encounters are not fully specified in the published material, so record what you observe and adjust on the next run.
Patch changes that affect existing equipment
Two balance changes are easy to miss when updating an old kit:
Best Value
- ARC Raiders–Inspired Design: Bold, high-quality graphics with vibrant colors that capture the iconic ARC Raiders aesthetic.
- Durable Premium Vinyl: Made from thick, high-grade vinyl for long-lasting use on cars, laptops, skateboards, walls, and flasks.
- UV & Weather Resistant: Fade-proof, waterproof, and scratch-resistant—perfect for indoor and outdoor applications.
- Easy Application & Removal: Applies smoothly without bubbles and removes cleanly with no sticky residue left behind.
- Versatile Décor & Gift Idea: Ideal for personalizing gear, accessories, and spaces, and a great gift for ARC Raiders fans.
- Heavy Shield: movement penalty reduced from 15% to 10%; durability decay changed from 0.20 to 0.15.
- Snap Hook: range reduced from 20 m to 18 m; durability consumption increased from 2% to 4% per use; power cost increased from 50 to 60.
These are numerical adjustments, not proof that either item is now the best choice. Recheck how the changes fit your route and resource budget before replacing a gadget or shield outright.
What the official information does not establish
Do not present any of the following as settled facts:
- A single best Frozen Trail loadout.
- A universal Stiletto-versus-Bantam winner.
- Exact flash-freeze damage, timing, duration or immunity item.
- A tested weapon ranking for ARC or Raider encounters.
- A guaranteed Frigate route or Hydra counter.
- A required number of Tethers, Grapple Hooks or ammunition units.
Game balance and schedules can change. Check the latest official patch notes before treating these figures or systems as permanent.
Essential gear is in-game gear
For this update, “gear” means your ARC Raiders inventory: weapons, ammunition, traversal tools, control gadgets, shields, skills and progression unlocks. The official material does not establish a required physical edition, apparel item, peripheral, guidebook or other real-world purchase for preparing to play Frozen Trail.
Start with the documented roles, unlock the Outpost systems, and keep your kit adaptable until you have firsthand knowledge of Pendola Pass’s conditions. That approach uses what the update actually confirms without turning untested assumptions into a mandatory build.
