Capcom has announced Ascendance for 2027, but its final weapon actions, controls, and balance have not been fully detailed. The available preview confirms aerial traversal—not a universal aerial-combo system—so there is no supported “best” weapon or combo to recommend yet.
Meet the announced requirements first
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is a paid expansion, not a standalone release. PlayStation says you need the base game, Hunter Rank 40, and completion of the quest “Awaking From a Dream” to start the expansion story and enter Master Rank. If you plan to play at launch, these are the concrete progression goals to work on now. PlayStation’s September 3, 2026 overview describes these prerequisites.

- Own Monster Hunter Wilds; the expansion requires the base game.
- Reach Hunter Rank 40.
- Complete “Awaking From a Dream.”
Capcom announced a 2027 release window on June 8, 2026, and said the expansion was in development. Check official announcements for any updated release timing or requirements before making plans. Capcom’s announcement identifies the expansion as adding new quest ranks, locales, monsters, and expanded weapon actions.
Practise a weapon, not an unconfirmed aerial combo
The announced combat feature is Boost Action: a temporary enhancement activated through the Boost Bracer, with weapon-specific actions for all 14 weapon types. That gives you a reason to become comfortable with one weapon’s ordinary handling, but it does not establish which weapon will be strongest in the air. Capcom has not yet published final, complete move and balance details for every weapon.
#1 Best Overall
- Wild New Adventure – Monster Hunter Wilds follows the story of a special Research Commission investigating the Forbidden Lands. Fully voiced for the first time in the series, the hunter is joined in their journey by a colorful cast of characters, including a Palico partner, Guild-appointed Handler Alma, trusty smithy Gemma, and the mysterious child Nata. Together, the team ventures into an unexplored new frontier where surprises await around every corner.
- A Living World – The Forbidden Lands spans multiple biomes with dynamic identities, such as the Windward Plains and Scarlet Forest, where the ecosystems shift between vibrant seasons brimming with life, and unforgiving climates where monsters fight over limited resources. Changes in the landscape will impact the creatures that live there and push hunters to adapt as well.
- New Monsters and Wildlife – Monster Hunter Wilds features a variety of new creatures, ranging from herds of small species to large monsters – some of which roam the Forbidden Lands in packs. Every creature hunters encounter in the wild has carved out a special place in its habitat and possesses unique attacks and behaviors.
- Players can also now ride atop the Seikret, an agile new mount enabling hunters to traverse difficult terrain, perform actions like sharpening weapons on the move, and switch between two weapons while out on hunts!
- Evolved Hunting Action – The series’ acclaimed action-packed gameplay is back and more exciting than ever! Hunters can look forward to tracking down monsters with an array of new moves, special abilities, equipment, and more. The action also now flows seamlessly from cutscenes to gameplay, resulting in a new level of immersion.
If you want to sample the roster before committing, PlayStation says the free Prologue Demo lets players try all 14 weapon types. Use it to compare how each weapon feels in regular hunts—its pace, reach, defensive options, and complexity—rather than trying to predict aerial damage from footage that may change.
Separate aerial traversal from aerial combat
A PlayStation hands-on preview describes riding a Seikret through updrafts and gliding among floating landmasses in the Skybound Eyrie. Those are previewed traversal features. They do not prove that every weapon can perform aerial attacks, that airborne combos are central to combat, or that one weapon benefits most from time in the air. The September 16, 2026 hands-on report is a development preview, not a finalized weapon guide.

- Finish the progression prerequisites. Work toward Hunter Rank 40 and complete “Awaking From a Dream” in the base game.
- Test weapons in the Prologue Demo or base game. Pick one you like using on the ground; no confirmed aerial ranking exists.
- Learn the distinction between systems. Seikret updrafts and gliding concern movement through the environment. Boost Action is the announced weapon-combat enhancement associated with the Boost Bracer.
- Wait for weapon-specific official demonstrations. Capcom says more details will come in official updates. Use those demonstrations to learn final controls and actions once they are published.
- Reassess after the moves are documented. At that point, compare control complexity, time airborne versus grounded, access to openings, defensive recovery, and how much you enjoy the weapon’s regular moveset.
Until those details arrive, practising fundamentals is useful preparation; prescribing an “optimal” aerial combo would be speculation. Capcom’s June 8 announcement says further details will be announced in future official updates. Follow Capcom’s official announcements for changes to the expansion’s mechanics and availability.
