If you preordered a Nintendo Switch 2 for Best Buy’s U.S. midnight launch, bring government-issued photo ID and your order number, and wait until Best Buy sends its “Ready for pickup” email before heading to the store. Best Buy’s announced opening time—12:01 a.m. ET on June 5, 2025—was for that specific launch event, not a standing schedule for other retailers or future pickups.
What to bring and check before leaving
Best Buy’s pickup guidance says to bring government-issued photo ID and your order number. Check your order confirmation for the selected store and pickup details, and wait for the separate “Ready for pickup” email. If someone else will collect the order, Best Buy says that person must be designated as the pickup person. These are Best Buy’s rules; follow the instructions and pickup status shown by the retailer that holds your order.

What time was the 2025 midnight launch?
Best Buy said nearly all of its U.S. stores would open at 12:01 a.m. ET on June 5, 2025, for preorder pickup and walk-in purchases. The same time was 11:01 p.m. CT, 10:01 p.m. MT, and 9:01 p.m. PT on June 4. These times applied to Best Buy’s announced 2025 event; they do not establish hours for another store, location, launch, or date. Check the retailer’s announcement and the selected store’s instructions before traveling.

Best Buy described walk-in stock as limited and directed customers to its store locator. That announcement did not guarantee a unit would be available at any particular store, so a preorder pickup and a walk-in purchase are not interchangeable plans. Nintendo of America announced two U.S. launch options in April 2025: Nintendo Switch 2 with a suggested retail price of $449.99, and a Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle with a suggested retail price of $499.99. Those are launch-era U.S. prices, not a statement of current pricing. The bundle announcement included a game download code; check your own order confirmation to verify the edition and included software associated with your purchase.

Nintendo listed the console, Joy-Con 2 controllers, Joy-Con 2 grip and straps, dock, Ultra High-Speed HDMI cable, AC adapter, and USB-C charging cable among the package contents. Set up the console after pickup
You do not need to buy a replacement adapter or HDMI cable for the standard setup described here: the system package includes the key items. Nintendo’s first-time setup instructions begin with charging the console directly, then guiding you through initial settings on screen.

- Connect the USB cable to the supplied AC adapter, then plug the adapter into a wall outlet.
- Connect the USB-C end of the cable to the console.
- Attach both Joy-Con 2 controllers.
- Follow the on-screen prompts, including language and region, time zone, and Nintendo Account setup. Some settings can be completed later.
For TV play, connect the dock using the supplied adapter and Ultra High-Speed HDMI cable, following Nintendo’s connection instructions. The original Nintendo Switch AC adapter can connect directly to Switch 2, but its different power output does not support the Switch 2 dock in TV mode. An internet connection and system update may be needed for some features, so do not assume every download or update will finish immediately on launch night.
