Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor a YouTube playlist stream that should go out at 30 fps, make 30 fps working copies of your 60 fps clips and set the live encoder’s output to 30 fps. Keep the originals, check converted clips for judder and audio-sync problems, then test the stream and review YouTube’s stream health before relying on it.
Why convert 60 fps clips for a 30 fps stream?
YouTube Live accepts input up to 60 fps, so 60 fps footage is within YouTube’s stated live limit. Choosing 30 fps is a separate decision about the outgoing stream: your playlist and encoder should deliver the cadence you intend viewers to receive. YouTube automatically transcodes a live stream into output formats for viewers, but that does not remove the need to configure and test your incoming stream. See YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance.

Prepare 30 fps versions of your clips
- Confirm the source and target. Check that the files are actually 60 fps and that 30 fps is the intended output. This workflow assumes a playlist feeds a live encoder or streaming service.
- Retain the original files. Create separate 30 fps working copies so you can compare results and re-export if the conversion harms important motion.
- Convert the frame rate. A basic 60-to-30 fps conversion reduces the temporal sampling rate by half, typically by selecting fewer frames. YouTube’s live documentation does not prescribe a particular offline conversion tool or algorithm, so choose a method supported by your editing or transcoding application rather than treating an ingest recommendation as an export preset.
- Inspect representative footage. Review fast movement, pans, and events where a missed frame would matter. Look for judder or missing action. Check that clip duration and audio synchronization remain intact. If the results are not acceptable, compare a straightforward frame-drop conversion with motion interpolation; interpolation can introduce visual artifacts and may take longer to process, and no method is best for every clip.
- Keep output dimensions appropriate. Preserve or set dimensions for the stream resolution you plan to send. A frame-rate conversion alone does not require changing a clip’s dimensions.
Set the live encoder to 30 fps
Configure the outgoing live encoder—not just the saved video files—to match your intended 30 fps stream. YouTube’s Live Streaming API recognizes 30fps as a frame-rate setting. It also documents variable detection, paired with variable resolution; if you use automatic detection, confirm the rate YouTube detects rather than assuming it selected 30 fps. The API describes these options in its LiveStreams documentation.

- Protocol: YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS and recommends RTMPS.
- Frame rate: Set 30 fps for a declared 30 fps output, or use detection and verify the detected rate.
- Rate control: Use constant bitrate (CBR), as YouTube recommends.
- Keyframes: Set a 2-second keyframe interval. YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Video codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for live ingest. Available choices depend on your encoder and workflow.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio.

Test the playlist stream before going live
- Run a test using clips with movement and audio similar to the intended playlist. YouTube specifically recommends testing with representative audio and motion.
- Check the outgoing stream’s resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, CBR setting, and keyframe interval.
- Monitor YouTube stream health while the test runs. The Live Streaming API documents health issues including frame-rate mismatch; correct the encoder or playback-chain output if YouTube reports one.
- Review the actual result for judder, missing action, audio problems, or sync drift before scheduling a longer stream.
Keep YouTube’s ingest paths distinct
The settings above describe the general live encoder workflow. HLS ingest is a separate path with additional requirements: YouTube’s HLS guidance specifies M2TS, H.264 or HEVC video, AAC audio, closed GOP, and support up to 60 fps. Do not apply those HLS-specific container requirements to an RTMP/RTMPS workflow. See YouTube’s HLS ingestion guide.

Common problems and fixes
- YouTube reports a frame-rate mismatch: Confirm the encoder’s actual output cadence, not only the source file’s frame rate. Set output to 30 fps or verify automatic detection.
- Motion looks uneven after conversion: Inspect the original and converted clip side by side. Try a different conversion approach on a short representative section; frame selection can make fast movement look juddery, while interpolation can create artifacts.
- Audio drifts or no longer matches: Check the converted clip’s duration and sync, then review the live output. Replace the working copy with a verified conversion if the issue remains.
- Stream health flags a configuration issue: Compare the encoder against YouTube’s recommendations for codec, resolution, bitrate, CBR, and keyframe interval, then test again.
- You are using HLS but followed RTMP assumptions: Check the HLS guide for its distinct container and codec requirements instead of importing them into an RTMP workflow.
