Reverie in the Moonlight is scheduled to launch digitally on November 19, 2026. Nintendo lists a Nintendo Switch version marked “Supported” on Nintendo Switch 2, plus a separate Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. You can preorder either version from Nintendo eShop on a Switch or Switch 2, or through Nintendo.com while signed in to your Nintendo Account.
Nintendo does not process a preorder payment until no earlier than seven days before release. When payment is processed, the game preloads; it becomes playable on November 19 after the release update is installed. If you already own the Switch version, Nintendo offers an upgrade pack that converts it to the Switch 2 Edition, although the upgrade price is not stated in the available listing.

Release date and preorder availability
Nintendo’s 2026 product listings give Reverie in the Moonlight a November 19, 2026 release date. The game is listed as a digital Nintendo Switch title, and Nintendo’s Canada listing marks that version as supported on Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo also lists a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition releasing on the same day.
That means there are three relevant purchase paths:
#1 Best Overall
- eCash - Nintendo eShop Gift Card $100
- Buy the Nintendo Switch version for use on Switch, with compatibility on Switch 2 indicated by Nintendo.
- Buy the dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 Edition for the enhanced Switch 2 features.
- If your Nintendo Account already owns the Switch game, buy the Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack instead of purchasing the base game again.
All three options are digital products. The available Nintendo listings do not establish a physical cartridge release, a preorder bonus, retailer inventory, or a final price. Check the live Nintendo store page at checkout for the current amount and edition label.
Choose the right edition before paying
| Option | Who it is for | What Nintendo lists | Important condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch version | Anyone buying the standard digital game, particularly a Switch owner | Digital Switch game; Nintendo’s Canada listing marks it Supported on Nintendo Switch 2; estimated file size 550 MB; single-system play | Does not include the Switch 2 Edition enhancements |
| Nintendo Switch 2 Edition | Someone buying for Switch 2 who wants the enhanced version immediately | Improved frame rate and Joy-Con 2 mouse-sensor support; same game content as the Switch version | Releases November 19, 2026, like the standard version |
| Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack | A player who already owns the Nintendo Switch game | Converts the existing Switch game to the Switch 2 Edition | The base game is required; the available listing does not state the upgrade price |
When the standard Switch version makes sense
Select the Nintendo Switch version if you own the original console, want the regular digital release, or do not need the Switch 2-specific frame-rate and control improvements. Nintendo’s listing gives an estimated download size of 550 MB and identifies the game as single-system play.
When to select the Switch 2 Edition
Select the Switch 2 Edition if you are buying for Nintendo Switch 2 and want the enhanced presentation and controls from the start. Nintendo describes an improved frame rate for smoother gameplay and visuals and support for the Joy-Con 2 mouse sensor. Nintendo also says the game content itself does not differ between editions.

If the account already owns the Switch game, look for the Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack rather than adding the full game to the cart again. Nintendo describes the pack as an upgrade from the existing Switch title, and the base game is required. Confirm that the eShop is signed into the account that owns the original purchase before attempting to buy it.
What the game includes
Nintendo describes Reverie in the Moonlight as an action game in which monsters attack night after night and plushies defend the protagonist. Nintendo’s 2026 product listing advertises 40 types of plushies, more than 100 items, and more than 20 costumes. Those figures are Nintendo’s published descriptions, not independent measurements.
The Switch listing also gives an estimated file size of 550 MB. Treat that as a store estimate rather than a guarantee of the final installed size; the eShop page can change before launch.
What to check before starting a preorder
- Console: Decide whether the game will be used primarily on a Switch or Switch 2.
- Edition name: Read the product title carefully. “Nintendo Switch,” “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition,” and “Upgrade Pack” are different products.
- Existing ownership: If you already bought the Switch game, use the Nintendo Account that owns it so the upgrade option appears correctly.
- Storage: Keep at least the listed 550 MB estimate available on the target console or its microSD storage, plus room for updates.
- Account region and currency: Prices and payment options are tied to the Nintendo Account’s store region. A payment card or eShop credit must match the account’s currency and region requirements.
- Release timing: The scheduled launch date is November 19, 2026. Store details can change before that date, so verify the final listing during checkout.
How to preorder in Nintendo eShop
- Open Nintendo eShop. Start eShop on your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 and sign in with the Nintendo Account that should receive the purchase.
- Search for the title. Use the search field and enter
Reverie in the Moonlight. Nintendo Support says selected unreleased Switch and Switch 2 games can be preordered directly in eShop. - Open the correct product page. Compare the title and edition label before selecting the purchase button. Choose the Nintendo Switch version, the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, or the Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack if your account owns the base game.
- Check compatibility and requirements. Confirm the console designation, the estimated download size, and whether the page identifies the item as an upgrade pack. An upgrade pack is not a standalone copy; it requires the base Switch game.
- Complete checkout. Select the Nintendo Account payment method, review the displayed price and terms, and confirm the preorder. The amount shown at checkout is the one to rely on because Nintendo’s price was not established in the available product information.
- Keep the console ready. Leave the target console connected to the internet and signed into the purchasing account if you want the automatic preload when Nintendo processes payment.
After confirmation, the preorder should appear in the account’s eShop purchase information. If the item does not appear, first verify that you used the same Nintendo Account that completed checkout.

How to preorder from Nintendo.com
- Open Nintendo.com and sign in to the Nintendo Account linked to the console where you want the game delivered.
- Search for Reverie in the Moonlight and open the listing for the desired edition.
- Check whether the page says Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, or Upgrade Pack before proceeding.
- Complete the online checkout with the available Nintendo Account payment method.
- Keep the linked console connected to the internet. Nintendo says a web purchase is delivered to the linked console associated with the account.
Buying on the web does not change the release date or Nintendo’s payment schedule. The same preorder timing and cancellation rules apply.
When Nintendo charges the preorder
Nintendo Support states that payment for eShop preorders is processed no earlier than seven days before the game is released. For a November 19, 2026 launch, the earliest processing window begins on November 12, 2026. “No earlier than” is important: it does not promise that every account will be charged at the first possible minute or on one universal time of day.
| Stage | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Before November 12, 2026 | The preorder remains pending. Nintendo says payment is not processed before the seven-day window. |
| From the seven-day window | Nintendo processes payment according to its eShop preorder system. If payment succeeds, the game preloads. |
| Before release day | The downloaded files remain locked. The console may need the release update before the game can start. |
| November 19, 2026 | The title is scheduled to unlock after the release update is installed. |
Make sure the selected payment method remains valid as the processing window approaches. A failed payment can prevent the preload from completing, so check the account’s payment settings before that period.
Preloading and playing on release day
Once Nintendo processes the preorder payment, the game preloads to the console. Preloading saves the main download for before launch, but it does not provide early access. The game is scheduled to become playable on November 19, 2026 after the release update is installed.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf the game remains locked on release day, check the following in order:
- Confirm that the console’s date and time are set automatically through the internet.
- Connect the console to the internet and open the game’s software options to check for an update.
- Verify that the Nintendo Account that bought the game is the account being used on the console.
- Check that the download completed and that the console has sufficient storage for the update.
- Restart the console after the update finishes, then try launching the game again.
These checks address account, update, and storage conditions; Nintendo’s listing does not promise a specific unlock hour.
Can you cancel the preorder?
Yes. Nintendo’s FAQ says an eShop preorder can be canceled any time before payment is processed and the game is preloaded. Because payment can begin no earlier than seven days before release, the practical cancellation deadline is before Nintendo starts that processing and preload stage. After payment and preload have occurred, the ordinary preorder cancellation window described by Nintendo no longer applies.

How to avoid an unwanted charge
- Open the Nintendo Account or eShop purchase settings used for the preorder.
- Locate the pending Reverie in the Moonlight preorder.
- Use the cancellation option while the order is still unpaid and not preloaded.
- Confirm that the preorder no longer appears as an active pending purchase.
Store interfaces can change, so follow the cancellation control shown on the current Nintendo account page. If the game has already been charged or preloaded, review Nintendo’s current digital-purchase support terms before taking further action.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDo existing Switch owners need to buy the game again?
No, not if Nintendo Account ownership is recognized and the upgrade pack is available for that account. Nintendo says the Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack upgrades the Nintendo Switch game to the Switch 2 Edition, and the base game is required.
Before purchasing, open the product page while signed into the owning account. If the page offers only the full Switch 2 Edition price, check that:
- You are using the Nintendo Account that purchased or redeemed the Switch version.
- The original game is installed or registered to that account.
- You are viewing the upgrade-pack listing rather than the standalone Switch 2 Edition.
- Your account’s store region matches the region where the original purchase was made.
Nintendo’s available information does not state the upgrade pack’s price. Do not assume it is free or that it matches a particular percentage of the base-game price; use the live eShop amount.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Switch versus Switch 2 compatibility
The Nintendo Switch version is the appropriate listing for the original console. Nintendo’s Canada listing marks that version as supported on Nintendo Switch 2, so a Switch 2 owner can choose the standard release if the enhanced features are not important.
Recommended Free Tools
The Switch 2 Edition is a separate digital listing with the improved frame rate and Joy-Con 2 mouse-sensor support. Nintendo says the content is the same, so the distinction is performance and control features rather than a different campaign or item set.
Because the two editions share the November 19, 2026 release date, choosing the Switch 2 Edition does not provide an earlier launch. The key decision is whether to buy the enhanced edition directly or use the upgrade path after owning the standard game.

Price, physical copies, and preorder bonuses
The available Nintendo information does not establish a final digital price for any edition or the upgrade pack. It also does not confirm a physical cartridge, a preorder bonus, or retailer-specific stock. Treat any price, bonus, or physical-edition claim found elsewhere as unconfirmed until it appears on the live Nintendo product page or in an official Nintendo announcement.
If you plan to use an optional Nintendo eShop gift card, match its currency and region to the Nintendo Account before redeeming it. A card issued for a different country or currency may not be usable on that account. Gift-card funds can cover the preorder only if the account’s eShop accepts that card for the selected purchase.

The wrong edition appears in search
Search results can show the standard Switch game, the Switch 2 Edition, and the upgrade pack separately. Open each result and read the full title. Do not rely on artwork alone; select the listing that matches the console and features you want.
The upgrade pack is unavailable
Use the account that owns the Switch game, then reopen eShop and search again. If the account still cannot access the upgrade listing, verify the original purchase region and confirm that the product page identifies the base game as a requirement. Do not buy the full game again until you have checked those points.
The preorder payment fails
Check the payment method’s expiration date, available funds, billing details, and account region. Resolve the payment issue before the release date so Nintendo can process the order and preload the game. The exact retry behavior is controlled by Nintendo’s eShop system and may vary by payment method.
The download will not start
Check the console’s free storage, internet connection, and download queue. The listed 550 MB is an estimate for the Switch version; updates can require additional space. If the console is sleeping, leave it connected to power and internet so the preload can complete.
The game is still locked on November 19
Install any pending release update, confirm that payment completed, and verify the purchasing account. A preorder does not guarantee play before the scheduled release date, and Nintendo has not published a universal unlock time for this title.
Best choice by situation
| Your situation | Recommended listing | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| You own an original Switch and do not plan to move to Switch 2 | Nintendo Switch version | It is the standard digital release and is listed for Switch use. |
| You own Switch 2 and want the enhanced controls and frame rate | Nintendo Switch 2 Edition | It includes Joy-Con 2 mouse-sensor support and Nintendo’s improved-frame-rate enhancement. |
| You own the Switch game and now use Switch 2 | Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack | It upgrades the existing base game instead of requiring another full purchase. |
| You are undecided and comparing prices | Wait for the live checkout totals | Nintendo has not stated the final game or upgrade price in the available listing. |
For most Switch 2 buyers, the direct choice is between the standalone Switch 2 Edition and the upgrade pack. The standard Switch version remains a valid option because Nintendo lists it as supported on Switch 2, but it does not provide the Switch 2 Edition enhancements.
