Listings can change as a release moves from announcement to sale, so use the storefront rather than an old social post, cached page, or third-party listing when you are ready to order.

Read the individual drop page before you commit
Secret Lair terms are product-specific. Open the target drop and record the details shown on that page before choosing an edition or joining a queue.
- Sale status: confirm that the page says the product is available for preorder or sale, rather than merely announcing it as an upcoming item.
- Edition: some drops offer foil and non-foil versions as separate choices.
- Price: use the amount displayed for your region and selected edition; do not assume another drop’s price carries over.
- Shipping start: the page may specify when fulfillment is expected to begin. This is a planned shipping start, not necessarily the date the package will arrive.
- Availability language: wording such as “while supplies last” means the sale can end when inventory is exhausted.
- Purchase limit: check the per-customer quantity restriction. The reviewed Secret Lair x The Hobbit: Over the Edge of the Wild page, for example, displays a two-per-customer limit.
- Terms and region: review any event, shipping, tax, or geographic conditions attached to the listing.

Prepare your account and checkout details
Before the sale window, remove avoidable delays from checkout. Wizards’ event checklist recommends the following preparation:

- Create or sign in to a Wizards Account. Use the account you intend to order with and confirm that you can sign in before the event begins.
- Check your shipping address. Make sure the saved address is current, complete, and eligible for the storefront region you are using. Correcting an address during a high-demand sale can cost valuable time.
- Save payment details if you are comfortable doing so. Wizards recommends saving them to make checkout faster. Review the card or payment method before the sale rather than discovering an expired or rejected method at the final step.
- Decide which edition and quantity you want. Knowing your choice in advance helps you stay within the page’s per-customer limit and avoid switching products while inventory is moving.
- Read the event announcement. The announcement may contain a queue schedule, shipping promotion, promotional-card condition, or other terms that are not universal across drops.
Keep the product page and the event announcement available on the same device if possible. The product page supplies the item-specific facts; the announcement supplies event mechanics. Neither one replaces the other, and neither notification signup nor an announcement view constitutes an order.
How to pre-order a drop: the complete sequence
1. Open the official storefront
Go to the official Secret Lair storefront and locate the upcoming or live drop. If a notification signup is offered, you may use it as a reminder, but do not treat the signup as an order or reservation.
2. Open the exact product page
Select the listing for the drop you want. Confirm the current sale label, edition options, displayed price, shipping start date, quantity limit, availability wording, and any regional restrictions. Keep the page open while you review the event instructions so you do not rely on a different drop’s schedule.
3. Choose the edition and quantity
Select foil or non-foil when both are offered, then choose the quantity permitted by the page. If the listing says “while supplies last,” inventory can disappear before the advertised sale period ends. Check the selection again in the cart so the finish and quantity match what you intended.

4. Join the event queue when instructed
Some releases publish a pre-queue procedure. In the two Wizards announcements dated Aug. 24 and Aug. 27, 2026, the pre-queue opened at 8 a.m. Pacific Time and the sale began at 9 a.m. Pacific Time. To enter, customers added any product to the cart and proceeded to checkout. Customers already in the pre-queue were randomly assigned a queue position when the sale started; customers who proceeded to checkout after the sale opened entered in the order they did so.
Those times and mechanics are examples from those announcements, not a permanent Secret Lair schedule. Follow the announcement for your particular event, including its time zone and any changed entry requirement. Convert the announced Pacific Time to your local time in advance, and allow enough time to sign in and open the listing rather than trying to interpret the schedule at the last second.
5. Proceed through checkout
After adding the product, continue to the checkout flow. Queue entry gives you access to checkout; it does not turn the cart into a reservation. Keep going through address, shipping, payment, and order confirmation until the storefront reports that the order is complete.
6. Confirm the completed order
Save the confirmation details shown after payment succeeds. A cart view, queue number, or payment screen that has not produced an order confirmation is not proof that the drop is secured. If you have not reached confirmation, treat the transaction as unfinished and continue following the storefront’s prompts.

The two August 2026 announcements provide a useful model for how a timed event can work. At 8 a.m. Pacific Time, one hour before the 9 a.m. sale, customers could enter the pre-queue by adding any product and proceeding to checkout. When the sale opened, people already in that pre-queue received randomly assigned queue positions. Someone who began the checkout process only after 9 a.m. entered in the order they proceeded.
This arrangement affects access to the checkout flow, not the amount of stock assigned to a person. A favorable queue position still requires the customer to select the desired product, supply valid order information, and finish payment. Conversely, entering after the pre-queue does not mean an order is impossible; it means the customer follows the live event’s stated entry process. Always give the current announcement priority over this example.
Queue access is not inventory reservation
The most important distinction in a high-demand Secret Lair event is the difference between access and ownership. The queue controls when customers can reach checkout. It does not reserve a product for everyone who joins it, and placing an item in the cart does not hold stock.

Wizards states in its Aug. 24, 2026 announcement, “Adding products to your cart does not reserve them. Products are only secured once checkout is completed.” The Aug. 27, 2026 announcement for A Perfectly Normal Superdrop repeats the same checkout warning. Plan around the completed-order milestone, not the moment an item appears in your cart.
How to compare options on a drop page
When a release offers alternatives, use the live listing to compare them rather than assuming one version is the default.

Compare the complete transaction, not just the headline price. A lower-priced finish may have different availability, while a promotion may depend on the total order value or a specific region. Verify the final cart and checkout summary after making your selection, because that is where the applicable edition, quantity, shipping charge, and promotion should be reflected.
Shipping promotions and bonus items
Event announcements can include incentives that are not standing Secret Lair rules. The 2026 announcements referenced a free-shipping threshold of more than $99 and event-specific promotional cards available while supplies lasted. Treat both as conditional: verify the current announcement and checkout terms for your region, and do not increase an order solely to chase a promotion until the threshold and eligibility are visible for your cart.
A promotional card or shipping offer can run out, have a regional limitation, or apply only during the named event. The product page and event terms control what you actually receive. The $99 example is tied to the referenced 2026 event; it is not a guaranteed threshold for future drops.

- Relying on an old date: sale times and shipping information belong to the particular event and listing. Recheck them on the current pages.
- Confusing “upcoming” with “available: an announcement or notification page may appear before ordering is enabled. Use the live product status.
- Choosing the wrong finish: foil and non-foil can be separate options. Confirm the selection before payment.
- Ignoring the customer limit: a page’s limit applies to that listing. Do not assume multiple separate orders are an approved way around it.
- Stopping at the cart: the cart and queue are intermediate steps. Only completed checkout secures the products.
- Assuming a promotion is automatic: check the threshold, region, event dates, and while-supplies-last language.
- Expecting the shipping start to be an arrival date: it marks planned fulfillment, not guaranteed delivery.
What to do when something goes wrong
The item is in your cart but checkout has not finished
Return to checkout and complete every required step. Do not assume the cart is holding the item; stock is secured only after the order is completed.
You missed the published pre-queue opening
Read the event announcement for the live-sale procedure. In the 2026 examples, customers who entered checkout after the sale began joined in the order they proceeded, but another event can use different instructions.

The edition or price looks different from what you expected
Stop before paying and recheck the selected product, foil status, storefront region, and quantity. Secret Lair pages can offer multiple editions, and terms from one drop do not establish terms for another.
Your payment or address fails
Use the account and saved details you checked before the event. Correct the rejected field, then return to the final confirmation step. If inventory is time-sensitive, avoid opening duplicate carts or repeatedly changing editions unless the storefront requires it.

Check whether the listing is marked upcoming, sold out, or while supplies last, and look for a current event notice. A notification signup may alert you to a future release, but it does not promise that stock will be held for you.
You are unsure whether the order went through
Look for the storefront’s completed-order confirmation rather than relying on a queue number, cart display, or unfinished payment screen. Keep whatever confirmation details are shown so you can distinguish a completed purchase from an abandoned or failed checkout.

Keep the order confirmation and the product page’s planned shipping start date together so you can distinguish an expected fulfillment window from an arrival date. If the page supplies updated timing or terms, use that newer information for the order. Shipping timing can vary with the product and destination, so do not convert a start date into a personal delivery promise.

What time does every Secret Lair pre-queue open?
