How to Practice Arjun’s Combos in Street Fighter 6 Training Mode

The reliable way to learn Arjun’s combos in Street Fighter 6 is to use his in-game Character Guide and any available Combo Trials to choose a starting route, then break that route into short sections in Training Mode. Keep the input display visible, confirm that every attack actually connects, and test the finished sequence from the situation in which you intend to use it. Capcom’s official material explains Arjun’s design and Training Mode tools, but it does not publish verified, move-by-move Arjun notation. Treat every exact route, timing, damage value, and cancel as something to verify in the current game build and on your platform.

What you need before practicing

You need access to Street Fighter 6, Arjun unlocked on the account and platform you will play, and a control setup you intend to keep using in matches. Capcom announced Arjun as the second Year 4 character with a release date of October 13, 2026. The announced access model is individual purchase with Fighter Coins or access through the Year 4 Character Pass or Ultimate Pass; the in-game or platform store is the authority for current availability.

Arjun’s official announcement describes a character built around powerful breathing techniques, power, projectiles and set-play. It also says that some of his special moves can create recoverable (gray) damage when the opponent blocks. If the opponent is struck before that gray health recovers, it is lost. That mechanic is an important reason to test both hit and block situations, but the announcement does not identify a universal combo route, a damage amount or a timing window.

Use the built-in references first

Capcom’s manual distinguishes three useful resources:

#1 Best Overall
Street Fighter 6 - PS5
  • Classic Experience Built for a Modern Era: With all core gameplay modes present, plus two brand new modes and enhanced visuals, Street Fighter 6 redefines the classic fighting game genre.
  • Distinct Fighting Styles to Master: 18 diverse characters including legendary World Warriors and exciting brand new characters add their own flair to the game at launch, with more to be added post-launch.
  • Brand New Game Modes: The Street Fighter franchise continues to hone its skills and redefine the fighting genre with the introduction of three new foundational modes – Fighting Ground, World Tour and Battle Hub.
  • In-Game Commentating: Street Fighter’s first-ever Real-Time Commentary Feature, supported with subtitles in 13 languages, incorporates the voices of popular Fighting Game Community (FGC) commentators like Vicious and Aru directly into the game to narrate what is happening on-screen just like a real tournament.
  • Two New Control Schemes: Classic Controls returns alongside two brand new options: Modern Controls allow you to perform special attacks with simple button combinations and are designed for players who want to fight without memorizing and practicing special move button combinations first. Dynamic Controls only require a press of the Auto-Attack button to perform attacks and is a great control type to use when you have friends and family over for a quick, casual game.
  • Character Guide: an overview of a fighter’s characteristics and special moves.
  • Combo Trials: example combos presented inside the game.
  • Training Mode: a customizable environment for different opponents and situations.

Start with the Character Guide to learn what each move is intended to do, then inspect Combo Trials for routes that are actually present in your current version. A trial is a starting reference, not proof that it is the only, safest or most damaging option. Do not copy notation from an unverified video or post and present it as an official Arjun combo.

Choose the control type you will use in matches

Set the control type before you memorize inputs. Capcom supports Classic, Modern and Dynamic controls. Modern uses simpler button combinations for special attacks, while Dynamic is restricted to certain offline modes. A sequence learned with one control scheme may not translate directly to another because the command, button assignment or available shortcut can differ.

Control type Best practice Important limitation
Classic Practice the complete motion and button sequence you plan to enter during play. Commands require the traditional directional and attack inputs.
Modern Use the simplified special-move inputs and the attack buttons assigned to your chosen layout. The input sequence is not interchangeable with a Classic notation.
Dynamic Use it only when the mode allows it and when it matches your intended offline use. Capcom limits Dynamic controls to certain offline modes, so it is not a general online practice choice.

When a combo fails, first check that the control type in Training Mode matches the one selected for your normal play. Otherwise you may spend time correcting an input that is valid only on a different layout.

Set up a useful Training Mode routine

Training Mode has many adjustable options. The exact menu names and navigation can vary by platform and game update, so use the labels displayed in your current build rather than relying on a platform-specific menu path.

  1. Select Arjun as the player character. Select an opponent whose body size and defensive behavior resemble the matchup you want to prepare for. If you are learning a universal starter, begin with a standard-sized opponent before checking unusual hurtboxes.
  2. Put the dummy in a neutral, repeatable state. Start with the opponent standing and not guarding so you can determine whether the sequence connects at all. Later, change the guard behavior to test block strings and confirms.
  3. Turn on the input display if your version provides it. This lets you distinguish a missed directional motion from a late button, an unintended jump or a special move that never received the required input.
  4. Enable the on-screen information that helps you judge contact. Use the current version’s frame, attack, damage or playback displays where available. Do not assume a label or exact setting exists on every platform.
  5. Place the characters where the route is meant to begin. A combo that starts at point-blank range may drop at maximum normal-attack distance. If the route is a corner conversion, move the dummy to the corner before you test it.
  6. Reset often. A reset removes accidental spacing, prior gray health and positioning that can make a failed route appear successful.

The manual’s practical principle is to customize practice for different opponents and situations. Build one routine for a clean hit, another for a blocked approach and another for a corner or wake-up situation instead of trying to solve every case with one recording.

Turn a trial or route into small sections

Do not begin by repeating the entire sequence at full speed. Divide it at the points where a decision, cancel or timing change occurs. A useful division is:

  1. Starter to first contact: Confirm that the opening normal, command or punish reaches the opponent from the selected distance.
  2. First attack to the next transition: Practice the link or cancel immediately after the starter. Reset and repeat this pair until the transition is consistent.
  3. Middle sequence: Add the next normal, special or movement action only after the first transition connects reliably.
  4. Ender or knockdown: Practice the final action separately so you know whether the drop occurs in the middle or at the finish.
  5. Complete route: Join the sections, then repeat from a neutral reset rather than from a favorable pre-position.

For each section, use a simple pass/fail test: the intended attack must connect, the next input must appear correctly in the display, and the opponent must remain in the expected state. If any one of those conditions fails, shorten the section again.

Why confirmation matters

A training dummy can make an input look correct even when the move whiffs. Watch the opponent’s animation and the contact feedback, not only the input history. If the route is supposed to be a hit confirm, practice both branches: continue when the starter hits and stop or use the appropriate safe action when it is blocked. The official material does not specify which Arjun normal attacks confirm into which specials, so verify each branch yourself.

Test Arjun’s recoverable-damage pressure

Arjun’s announced mechanic makes a block test valuable. His special moves may add recoverable damage while the opponent guards. That gray portion can return if the opponent is left alone, but the announcement says it is lost when the opponent is hit before it recovers.

  1. Record or select a dummy that blocks the approach you want to challenge.
  2. Perform the relevant Arjun special or pressure sequence and watch whether gray health appears.
  3. Stop attacking and observe whether the gray portion recovers when the opponent is not struck.
  4. Repeat the sequence, then land a confirmed hit before recovery and compare the health result.
  5. Test the same idea in the corner and at mid-screen, because spacing and pushback can change what reaches.

This procedure tests the mechanic’s practical consequence without assuming a particular combo. The available official announcement does not state how much recoverable damage any named move creates, how long it lasts or which follow-ups are guaranteed. Record those details from the current game only if you have measured them.

Use dummy recording for real situations

When a route depends on what the opponent does, a stationary dummy is not enough. Record the approach, block, jump, reversal or other action you need to recognize, then replay it while you respond. Training Mode’s manual documents recording up to eight dummy actions and replaying selected recordings on Switch 2. Treat that eight-action limit as Switch 2-specific unless your platform’s manual confirms the same limit.

Examples of recordings to build

  • Block recording: the dummy blocks the first attack so you can practice stopping instead of committing to a combo.
  • Jump recording: the dummy approaches or jumps so you can practice an anti-air conversion into Arjun’s follow-up.
  • Reversal recording: the dummy performs its chosen defensive action after blocking, allowing you to check whether your pressure leaves a gap.
  • Spacing recording: the dummy walks or attacks from the range where your starter sometimes reaches and sometimes whiffs.

Keep recordings short enough to identify the decision you are practicing. If your platform supports fewer or differently organized slots, use separate routines and note which one is active before each attempt.

Practice by situation, not just by damage

A combo is useful only when you can reach it in a match. Create a small practice list based on the situations you actually expect:

  • Neutral hit: start at the range where the opening attack is intended to connect.
  • Punish: set the dummy to perform a recoverable attack or leave a gap, then practice recognizing the opening.
  • Drive Impact or other large opening: test the route from the distance and screen position created by the opening, rather than from point blank.
  • Anti-air: make the dummy jump at different timings and verify that the conversion still works when you must react first.
  • Corner: check whether the ender changes, whether a projectile leaves the opponent in range and whether the sequence pushes the dummy out.
  • Blocked pressure: practice the decision to stop, reset spacing or continue only when the opponent’s response permits it.

These are practice categories, not claims that a particular Arjun route is guaranteed in each one. The correct sequence depends on the moves and current balance of the game.

Measure a route before you commit to it

Official material retrieved for Arjun does not establish competing routes with verified damage, meter cost or execution data. If you find two routes in the game, compare them using the same checklist instead of choosing by appearance.

Criterion What to record in Training Mode Why it matters
Starting situation Normal hit, punish, anti-air, corner or another clearly defined opening. A route that starts only from a specific opening may not replace a general-purpose option.
Resources Drive, Super meter or any other resource consumed. A larger number on the damage display may not justify losing resources needed for defense or a later round.
Damage The value shown after a reset under the same conditions. Damage can vary with scaling, starter and opponent, so keep the conditions identical.
Position Screen location, corner carry and resulting knockdown or spacing. Position may be more valuable than a small damage difference.
Execution Which transition drops, and whether the input is difficult under pressure. A slightly shorter route that you can perform consistently may be the better match option.
Defensive response Whether the opponent can block, jump or use a reversal after each transition. A combo and a pressure string have different standards of success.

Do not publish a damage number, timing window or success rate as a general fact unless it has been measured in the current version and the conditions are stated with it.

Troubleshoot the most common drops

The first attack misses

Reset the dummy, check the starting distance and watch the attack’s contact point. If it misses only at maximum range, create a separate far-start practice routine rather than changing the whole route.

The special move does not come out

Read the input display immediately after the failed attempt. A missing direction usually indicates an incomplete motion; an extra direction or jump indicates an accidental input. Rehearse the motion without the combo, then add the attack button and finally insert it after the starter.

The normal does not link

Practice only the two attacks involved. Try the second button earlier and later while watching whether the first attack has recovered. Because no official Arjun frame data or route list is established here, do not infer a universal timing from another character.

The route works against a standing dummy but fails in a match

Test the route from a realistic distance, against a moving or blocking recording and from both sides of the screen. Add a reaction step: identify whether the starter hit before you continue. A memorized sequence that ignores hit confirmation is not a reliable conversion.

Gray health behaves differently than expected

Clear the dummy and repeat the test with no prior damage. Confirm that the opponent is actually guarding, then wait long enough to see recovery before testing the follow-up hit. The announced mechanic establishes recoverable damage in principle, not a fixed result for every special move.

Finish with a match-ready test

After the full route is assembled, perform a short verification routine:

  1. Execute it five times from the exact intended starting situation without changing the dummy’s position.
  2. Repeat it from the opposite side of the screen.
  3. Run the hit-confirm version and deliberately stop when the starter is blocked.
  4. Use the relevant dummy recording once, so you must recognize the situation before entering the route.
  5. Play a match or review a replay and note whether the opening actually occurred and whether you selected the correct branch.

These repetitions are a personal consistency check, not a published success statistic. If the route fails under match pressure, shorten it, choose a safer ender or return to the section where the input display first diverges.

Practice while waiting for online matches

Capcom’s manual says matchmaking can continue while you enter Training or Combo Trials. If the current online settings support that feature, use the waiting time to rehearse one small section rather than beginning a long experiment. Confirm that matchmaking remains enabled after changing modes, and leave the queue if you need uninterrupted setup for recordings or measurements.

What is and is not currently verified

The official sources establish that Character Guides, Combo Trials and customizable Training Mode are available learning tools; that Classic, Modern and Dynamic controls differ; and that Arjun’s announced design includes recoverable-damage pressure from some special moves against a guarding opponent. They do not provide an authoritative Arjun combo chart with exact inputs, damage, meter requirements, frame timings or universal routes. They also do not establish identical dummy-recording limits across every platform.

That distinction keeps your practice honest. Use the in-game trial and guide as references, verify every route in the current build, label the platform and control type, and record the conditions whenever you share a result.
