How to Play Xbox Cloud Games on PS5: Official Options, Browser Limits, and the Homebrew Client

There is no officially documented way to run Xbox Cloud Gaming directly on a PS5. PlayStation’s PS5 FAQ says the console does not include a dedicated web-browser app, and Xbox’s current cloud-gaming information describes supported devices and browsers without listing PS5. You can play through an officially supported phone, computer, Chromebook, tablet, or other compatible device, or investigate an unofficial homebrew client on a jailbroken PS5.

The homebrew route is experimental. Its author, RafaelNGP, reports testing it on only one PS5 running system software 13.60. That is not evidence that it works on current firmware, every jailbreak, or every account and network configuration. The instructions below separate confirmed Xbox requirements from community-reported PS5 procedures so you can judge the risk before changing your console.

What “playing Xbox Cloud Gaming on PS5” actually means

Xbox Cloud Gaming streams a game from Microsoft’s servers rather than installing the game on the local console. The device needs a supported browser or client, a Microsoft account, an eligible subscription for most games, a compatible controller, and a reliable internet connection. The game library, plan eligibility, regions, and supported devices can change, so Xbox’s current service page remains the authority for those conditions.

On a normal, unmodified PS5, the official route is not established. PlayStation’s official PS5 FAQ, published November 9, 2020, answers the browser question directly: “No, the PS5 system doesn’t include a dedicated web browser app.” That statement is narrower than saying the console has no web-rendering capability anywhere; some games and system features can display web content. It does mean you should not expect to open a general-purpose browser, visit the Xbox Cloud Gaming site, and use the PS5 as an officially supported streaming device.

Xbox’s published cloud-gaming requirements list supported device categories and browsers such as Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Safari. The page does not identify PS5 as a supported device. Consequently, an Xbox page loading inside an unusual system screen would not by itself make the setup supported or guarantee that controls, video, sign-in, or game streaming will work.

Choose between the two practical routes

Route What you need Support confidence Main trade-off
Official Xbox Cloud Gaming on another device An Xbox-supported device and browser, Microsoft account, eligible Game Pass plan for most games, supported title, controller, and suitable connection Highest of the available choices, because it follows Xbox’s published requirements You play on the device Xbox lists, not directly through the PS5 software
Community PS5 homebrew client A jailbroken PS5, the community app and loader, Microsoft account sign-in, and the service subscription stated by the project author Low and unverified broadly; the author reports one PS5 on system software 13.60 May keep the session on PS5, but firmware compatibility, maintenance, security effects, and performance are not established

Use the first route if you want an officially documented setup. Consider the second only if you already understand PS5 homebrew, can accept that it may fail after a firmware or service change, and are prepared to recover from an unsuccessful installation without assuming that Sony or Microsoft will support it.

Official Xbox Cloud Gaming: the supported-device procedure

Check account, game, and region eligibility

Xbox says cloud play generally requires an active eligible Game Pass plan and a game available for cloud streaming in a supported region. Its current information describes cloud gaming eligibility across Ultimate, Premium, and Essential plans, but plan benefits and limits are not necessarily identical. Selected free-to-play games can be played with a free Microsoft account instead of a paid plan. A subscription does not make PS5 an officially supported cloud device.

  1. Confirm the game. Check that the specific title is currently included in the cloud catalog for your region. A game being available on Xbox consoles or PC does not automatically mean that its cloud version is available.
  2. Confirm the account and plan. Sign in with the Microsoft account that holds the eligible plan, or use the free-account path for a qualifying free-to-play title.
  3. Use a listed device. Xbox describes browser access on device classes including iOS, Android, Chromebooks, and non-gaming PCs. On a computer, use a current supported browser such as Edge, Chrome, or Safari as identified by Xbox.
  4. Open Xbox Cloud Gaming. Go to the Xbox Cloud Gaming page in that supported browser, sign in, and select a cloud-enabled game. The exact catalog and interface can change, so labels may differ by region and account.
  5. Connect a controller. Xbox documents Bluetooth or USB controller connections. Its developer information lists Xbox controllers, PlayStation DualSense and DualShock controllers, and Nintendo Switch Pro controllers among compatible families for Xbox Cloud Gaming on supported devices. A controller being recognized by Xbox does not make a PS5 browser or homebrew client supported.
  6. Start the stream. Select the game, wait for the stream to establish, and keep the controller connected during play. Touch controls are available for selected games, but they are a feature of those titles and devices, not a general replacement for a controller.

Meet the connection guidance

Xbox’s general cloud-gaming guidance gives 10 Mbps downstream as a minimum and says some devices may require 20 Mbps for best quality. It recommends a 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection. These figures are service guidance, not a promise of a particular resolution, frame rate, or input response. Streaming quality also depends on your location, the device, the route to Microsoft’s servers, congestion, and other traffic on the connection.

  • Use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band when your device and access point support it; the Xbox guidance specifically recommends 5 GHz.
  • Pause large downloads, cloud backups, video streams, and other traffic while testing.
  • Test more than one game. A stream that starts successfully can still show different latency or image quality in another title.
  • Keep the controller connected by USB or Bluetooth as supported by the device. If input drops, test the controller outside the cloud session before blaming the game stream.

Why the PS5 browser route is not an official solution

The common browser idea assumes that a PS5 can behave like a computer: open a browser, navigate to the Xbox service, sign in, and stream. PlayStation’s FAQ rules out the key assumption by stating that PS5 has no dedicated web-browser app. Xbox’s current supported-device information also does not name PS5.

That leaves no documented sequence of PS5 menus that turns the stock console into an Xbox Cloud Gaming client. A hidden web view, a link opened from another application, or a page that happens to render is not the same as official compatibility. It may lack controller mapping, protected video playback, audio support, or a way to remain signed in. It can also stop working when PlayStation or Xbox changes its software.

If you want to use the official service while keeping the PS5 as your main television setup, the dependable alternative is to connect a supported phone, tablet, computer, or Chromebook to the display separately. That is a different device running the stream; it does not add Xbox Cloud Gaming to the PS5.

The reported PS5 homebrew client

A community post quoting the project’s GitHub description presents an “Xbox Cloud Gaming app for PS5 Homebrew.” The author describes it as a native client for jailbroken PS5 consoles. The author also says the app was tested on only one PS5 running system software 13.60 and asks for feedback. No evidence in the available report establishes support for later firmware, every jailbreak method, or all PS5 hardware revisions.

Treat the following as the project author’s reported setup, not an Xbox or PlayStation procedure. The project’s current release status, loader requirements, and firmware matrix were not established, so the names and screens may have changed.

Prerequisites and decisions

  • A jailbroken PS5. The client is intended for a modified console. Whether your firmware can be jailbroken, and whether the jailbreak remains active after a reboot, must be established independently before you attempt an installation.
  • The homebrew package and loader. The author refers to an extracted folder named PPSA99810 and launching it through a loader.
  • Microsoft account access. The author says sign-in is completed with a code displayed on the TV rather than by typing a password into the client.
  • An Xbox Game Pass subscription. This is the project author’s stated requirement. It does not override Xbox’s own plan, title, and region rules.
  • A compatible controller. The author says DualSense functions as the Xbox controller. Xbox independently lists DualSense among compatible controller families for supported cloud-gaming devices.

Reported installation sequence

  1. Verify the firmware situation first. Record the PS5 system-software version and confirm that the homebrew environment you use supports it. The only explicit test claim in the report is one console on 13.60; do not extend that claim to a newer version.
  2. Prepare the package. Extract the homebrew client so the folder is named PPSA99810. Do not rename files or remove contents unless the project’s own current instructions specifically require it.
  3. Copy the folder to the reported location. The author instructs users to place the extracted folder in /data/homebrew/. If that directory does not exist in your homebrew environment, stop rather than inventing a different path; the report does not document an alternative.
  4. Start the loader. Use the loader available in your jailbroken PS5 environment and select the installed homebrew package. The report does not establish one universal loader or menu path for every jailbreak.
  5. Complete code sign-in. Launch the client and follow the code-based Microsoft-account sign-in shown on the TV. Enter the code only on the official Microsoft sign-in page displayed by the client’s instructions. Never send your password or sign-in code to another person.
  6. Connect the DualSense. Pair the controller over the method supported by your setup, then test the buttons in the client before starting a game. The author reports that DualSense is mapped as an Xbox controller.
  7. Start a cloud-enabled game. Use the account and subscription that meet Xbox’s current cloud-play rules. A successful app launch does not prove that every title, region, or plan is available.

Protect the sign-in file

The project author warns that the client stores sign-in data in PPSA99810/account.json and says never to share that file because it provides access to the Microsoft account. Treat it as a credential: do not upload it to a forum, attach it to a support request, or send it to someone offering to “fix” the installation. If you believe the file was exposed, use Microsoft’s account-security controls to review sessions and change credentials as appropriate.

Homebrew risks that the report does not resolve

Installing a community client changes the risk profile of the console. The available report does not establish the project’s current maintenance, code audit status, account-security record, or effect on Sony and Microsoft terms. It also does not document whether the client survives system updates, whether it works on later firmware, or how it handles service-side changes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Firmware risk: Updating the PS5 can remove the jailbreak or make the reported client unusable. Remaining on old firmware can prevent access to newer console features and security fixes.
  • Account risk: A homebrew sign-in flow is not the same as an official PlayStation or Xbox application. Keep the account.json file private and watch for unexpected Microsoft-account activity.
  • Operational risk: A failed package, incompatible loader, or unstable jailbreak may require restoring the homebrew environment. The cited report does not provide a universal recovery procedure.
  • Service risk: Xbox can alter browser requirements, authentication, catalog access, or regional availability without preserving compatibility with an unofficial client.
  • Warranty and terms: The sources do not establish the warranty or account consequences for your region. Read the applicable Sony and Microsoft terms before modifying hardware or using an unofficial client.

Troubleshoot by isolating the failure

The official browser works elsewhere but not on PS5

This is expected under the documented support picture: Xbox lists supported browsers and devices, while PlayStation says PS5 has no dedicated browser app. Confirm the same account and game on a supported phone or computer. If that works, the problem is the unsupported PS5 route rather than the subscription.

The supported-device stream starts but is blurry or laggy

  1. Check that downstream speed is at least Xbox’s 10 Mbps minimum; some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality.
  2. Move to the recommended 5 GHz Wi-Fi band and reduce competing traffic.
  3. Test another supported device and another game to distinguish a device issue from a title or server-path issue.
  4. Reconnect the controller and test Bluetooth or USB stability separately from video quality.

The homebrew app does not appear

Recheck the exact folder name PPSA99810, the reported destination /data/homebrew/, and whether the loader is running in the required jailbroken state. Do not assume that a missing folder or different menu on a newer firmware can be corrected by guessing. The author’s one-console test does not provide a universal compatibility matrix.

The app launches but sign-in fails

Confirm that the TV code is entered through the intended Microsoft sign-in process, that the account can use Xbox Cloud Gaming in its region, and that the subscription or free-to-play exception applies to the selected game. If the client asks you to disclose account.json, a password, or a code to another person, stop; the project author specifically warns against sharing the sign-in file.

The controller is detected incorrectly

Reconnect the DualSense, remove duplicate Bluetooth pairings, and test it in the client before launching a game. Xbox’s DualSense compatibility statement applies to supported Xbox Cloud Gaming devices; the homebrew author’s mapping claim is separate and was not independently verified across PS5 versions.

What Microsoft’s service statistics do—and do not—tell you

Microsoft Game Dev reported 140 million hours streamed through Xbox Cloud Gaming between October and December 2024. A March 2025 Microsoft article also described availability in 28 major markets at that time and said its Direct Capture optimization can reduce input latency by 16–72 milliseconds depending on the game. Those figures describe Microsoft’s service and technology, not measurements of the PS5 homebrew client. They cannot be used as a performance guarantee for an unofficial PS5 installation.

How to decide

  • Choose the supported-device route if you need predictable sign-in, documented controller support, and a setup you can troubleshoot through Xbox’s current requirements.
  • Investigate homebrew only if staying on PS5 is more important than official support and you accept unknown firmware compatibility, possible maintenance problems, and account-security responsibility.
  • Do not treat a browser workaround as a third official option. The PS5’s lack of a dedicated browser app and Xbox’s omission of PS5 from its listed devices leave no documented stock-console procedure.

Before installing anything, check the homebrew project’s latest instructions against your exact firmware and verify that your Game Pass plan, region, and game are eligible. The reported 13.60 test is a narrow compatibility claim, not a promise for your console.
