Choose the right route for your console
If you own an Xbox Series S
Series S has no disc drive. Buy the 2026 editions digitally from the Xbox Store, or download an older Toy Story 3 license already attached to your Xbox account if it is supported in your library. An Xbox 360 disc cannot be inserted into or licensed directly by Series S.

- Open the Microsoft Store on the console.
- Search for Toy Story: Retro Roundup!, Toy Story 3 Complete Edition, or the combined package.
- Open the product page and confirm that the listing says Xbox Series X|S.
- Buy the edition you want, then choose Install or open it from your owned games.
If you are trying to use the old Xbox 360 version, open My games & apps, select See all, then Full library and Owned games. Search for Toy Story 3. If the title is not listed as owned or available to install, a disc will not solve the problem on Series S; choose a digital 2026 edition instead.

If you own an Xbox Series X
Series X gives you both options. For the newest presentation, buy one of the 2026 digital releases. For the original game, use an owned digital license or check an eligible Xbox 360 disc. The disc route is useful only if your particular disc and region are supported by Xbox backward compatibility.
If you want both new releases
The combined digital product is the simplest way to obtain Retro Roundup! and Toy Story 3 Complete Edition together. How to install the 2026 editions
Install from the Xbox Store

Install the combined package
Open the combined Retro Roundup! plus Toy Story 3 Complete Edition listing and verify that both games are included before paying. After purchase, the console may present two separate install entries because the package contains two products. Install only the game you currently have storage for; you can return to Full library and install the other later without buying it again.
How to play the original Xbox 360 Toy Story 3 on Series X
Use an eligible Xbox 360 disc
- Confirm that you have the Xbox 360 game disc, not a movie disc or a disc from another platform.
- Turn on the disc-capable Series X and sign in to Xbox Live with the account you use for the console.
- Insert the disc. Xbox checks whether the title is in its backward-compatibility catalog.
- If it is accepted, follow the on-screen prompt to download and install the compatible game files.
- Leave the original disc in the drive whenever you play. The disc acts as the ownership check even though the playable files are installed on the console.
Xbox’s compatibility catalog lists “Toy Story 3 | Games on Demand | Disney Interactive Studios.” Compatibility is title-specific, so an Xbox 360 disc that looks similar is not automatically supported. If the console rejects the disc, use the troubleshooting section below instead of assuming the drive is faulty.
Use an owned digital Xbox 360 license
- Open My games & apps > See all > Full library > Owned games.
- Search for Toy Story 3 and inspect the product details.
- Select Install if the game is listed as available.
- Launch it after installation. No disc is needed when the digital license belongs to the signed-in account.
Xbox describes backward compatibility as free for select Xbox 360, original Xbox, and Xbox One games that you already own. That does not mean every Xbox 360 title is supported or that an unsupported game becomes free; the catalog entry and your ownership status determine whether the download works.

What is different between the 2026 editions and the old game?
Toy Story: Retro Roundup!
Retro Roundup! is presented as a new remastered collection rather than a single re-release of Toy Story 3. Creative Bloq identifies Digital Eclipse as the developer associated with the remaster and describes historical extras. Those extras are the preservation-focused part of the collection, so this edition is the better fit if you want archival context alongside playable Toy Story material. The exact bonus contents shown on your regional Store page should control your expectations; listings can differ by language and territory.

Toy Story 3 Complete Edition is the separately sold remastered edition of the 2010 game. It is not merely the old Xbox 360 disc with a new label. The catalog lists it as optimized for Series X|S, and Creative Bloq connects Avalanche with the original game’s development. Choose this edition when your main goal is the Toy Story 3 campaign and the current-generation release rather than a broader historical collection.
The original Xbox 360 release
The backward-compatible Xbox 360 version is the 2010-era game as made available through Xbox’s compatibility program. Disc buying and compatibility checks
If you do not already own the Xbox 360 game, search specifically for “Toy Story 3 Xbox 360 video game.” Before paying, verify all of the following:
- The listing identifies an Xbox 360 game disc, not a soundtrack, film, guide, or downloadable code.
- The seller states the disc’s region or confirms that it is compatible with your account and console region.
- The disc is readable and includes no severe scratches, cracks, or missing artwork that could indicate damage.
- You are buying for a disc-capable Series X. The same disc is not usable on Series S.
- The title appears in Xbox’s backward-compatibility catalog. A seller’s claim alone is not proof.
- The price reflects a used physical item if that is what is being offered; availability and condition change frequently.
Do not assume that a physical double pack contains an Xbox disc. Creative Bloq reported a $49.99 physical double pack, while a Spanish announcement summary indicated that the physical pack was not available on Xbox. Treat physical-platform availability as region-specific and confirm the exact platform printed in the retailer’s listing before ordering.
Price, release date, and regional availability
Creative Bloq reported 15 October 2026 as the release date and $24.99 as the US digital price for Toy Story: Retro Roundup!. That is a reported US launch price, not a guaranteed worldwide or permanent price. Your Store may show a different currency, tax treatment, launch promotion, or release timing.

The same publication reported a $49.99 physical double pack. Because the Xbox physical version is not established for every territory, do not treat that figure as proof that an Xbox disc bundle is available where you live. Microsoft’s catalog lists the combined product digitally, so the digital listing is the safer route when you need both games on Series X or Series S.

Troubleshooting common problems
The game does not appear in your library
- Confirm that you are signed in to the account that purchased the game.
- Open My games & apps > See all > Full library > Owned games rather than relying only on the dashboard’s recent list.
- Search the complete product name. The 2026 remaster and the Xbox 360 release may appear as separate entries.
- Check whether the transaction is still pending or whether the Store is showing a preorder in your region.
- Restart the console and check for system or Store updates before trying the installation again.
The Xbox 360 disc is rejected
- Make sure you are using Series X, not Series S.
- Clean the disc and inspect it for cracks or deep scratches.
- Verify that the disc is the Xbox 360 game and that the title is the supported Toy Story 3 entry.
- Check the compatibility catalog and your console’s region requirements.
- If the disc is not supported, purchase a digital 2026 edition or use an owned digital license instead.
You bought the wrong edition
Compare the title shown under Manage game and add-ons with the receipt. Toy Story 3 Complete Edition is the 2026 remaster; Toy Story 3: The Video Game is the older Xbox 360 release. Retro Roundup! is a separate collection, not a subtitle for either version.
Installation stops because of storage
Free enough internal or expansion storage before starting a large download. If you purchased the combined package, install one game first and return to your library for the second. Canceling an installation does not cancel ownership; it only removes the pending download.

Why backward compatibility works on Series X|S
Xbox says its backward-compatibility program allows select owned Xbox 360, original Xbox, and Xbox One games to run on Series X|S at no additional charge. Xbox also states that more than 500,000 hours of testing were used to meet Series X|S gameplay-quality standards during the program. Those statements describe the program overall, not a promise that every older game receives identical enhancements or that every disc is supported.
For Toy Story 3, the practical distinction is ownership format. A supported digital license can be downloaded on either Series console, while a supported physical Xbox 360 disc requires the disc-capable Series X. Series S cannot bypass its missing drive with an external USB drive.
A simple decision checklist
- Identify your console: Series S means digital only; Series X can also read eligible discs.
- Decide whether you want the 2026 remaster or the original Xbox 360 release.
- Choose Retro Roundup! for the remastered collection and historical extras, Toy Story 3 Complete Edition for the remastered Toy Story 3 game, or the combined package for both.
