Install Soulstonia – Demo (Steam app 4448060) from Steam in Game Mode, launch it, and use a Proton compatibility override if it will not start. Because SteamDB lists mouse-only and touch-only options, keep the touchscreen and trackpads available for menus or actions that are awkward with a standard controller.
What you need before installing
The demo is distributed through Steam and is identified as Soulstonia – Demo, app 4448060. Gabriel’s Games is listed as both developer and publisher. A Steam Deck with an active Steam account and enough free storage is the practical starting point. The Windows store listing states a 500 MB minimum storage requirement; leave additional space for Steam’s compatibility files and updates rather than treating 500 MB as a complete Deck-space target.

The published requirements cover Windows 10 or Windows 11 and macOS 14. They do not list SteamOS or Linux. That omission does not prevent an installation on Deck, because Steam can run many Windows games through Proton, but it means the result should be treated as a compatibility attempt rather than a guaranteed native build.
| Published item | What is documented | How it applies to Steam Deck |
|---|---|---|
| Operating systems | Windows 10/11 and macOS 14 | No native SteamOS/Linux build is documented; Proton is the practical route. |
| Memory | 8 GB minimum | The listing does not provide a separate Steam Deck memory target. |
| Storage | 500 MB minimum for Windows | Reserve more than the stated minimum for Steam’s runtime and future updates. |
| Official Deck status | Not stated in the reviewed listing information | Do not assume Verified, Playable, or full controller support. |
Install and launch the demo in Game Mode
- Open Steam. Start the Deck in its normal Game Mode interface.
- Search the exact title. Use the Store search for Soulstonia – Demo, not the full game name alone. Confirm that the page identifies the demo and shows app 4448060.
- Open the official listing. Check that Gabriel’s Games appears as the developer and publisher before selecting the install control.
- Install the demo. Choose the Deck’s internal drive or a suitably fast microSD card with more free space than the 500 MB Windows minimum.
- Wait for Steam to finish. Let the download, shader processing, and any compatibility-tool preparation complete. Interrupting that process can leave a partial install.
- Launch from your Library. Select the newly installed demo and press Play. The first start may take longer if Steam is preparing Proton data.
- Check basic interaction immediately. Move through the title screen, open a menu, and confirm that you can select an option and return. If the game opens but a menu cannot be operated with the buttons, continue to the input section below.
This first launch is a diagnostic as well as a way to start playing. A clean start does not establish an official compatibility rating, and a failed first start does not prove the demo cannot run: Proton selection and input configuration can change the result.

If the demo does not start: set a Proton override
Steam’s per-game compatibility setting lets you choose a Steam Play tool for this title without changing the setting for every game on the Deck. Use it when the demo closes immediately, hangs before its first screen, or displays a plainly broken window.
- In Game Mode, highlight Soulstonia – Demo in your Library.
- Open the game’s Menu and choose Properties.
- Select Compatibility.
- Enable Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool.
- Choose the latest Proton release that Steam presents and recommends on your Deck.
- Close Properties and launch the demo again.
Test one Proton choice at a time. If the newest option produces a worse result, return to the same menu and try another installed Proton release. Record which choice you tested and what changed; that makes it easier to return to the first working configuration instead of changing several variables at once.
When to remove the override
If Steam’s default configuration eventually starts the demo reliably, disabling the forced tool is reasonable. A forced override is a troubleshooting setting, not proof that one Proton version is universally best. Leave it enabled only when it gives you a clearly better launch or runtime result than the default.

Using the Deck’s touchscreen and trackpads
SteamDB metadata flags mouse-only and touch-only options for the demo. Those flags indicate that some actions or settings may expect pointer-style input; they are not a hands-on test showing that every screen works or that a complete gamepad layout is available.
Try the touchscreen first
Tap buttons, list entries, and map or inventory elements that do not respond to the face buttons. Touch input is often the quickest way to get past a pointer-dependent menu. Keep the physical controls available for movement or repeated actions, because a touch-capable screen does not imply that every gameplay action is designed for touch.

Use a trackpad as a mouse substitute
Move a thumb over a trackpad to position the pointer and click the pad when the game expects a mouse button. If the pointer moves too quickly or slowly, adjust the trackpad sensitivity in the Steam Input layout rather than changing several in-game settings at once.
Create a temporary Steam Input layout
For a mixed control scheme, assign one trackpad to cursor movement, a convenient shoulder or rear button to the primary mouse click, and another button to the secondary click or cancel action if the game needs it. Keep a face button mapped to the most common confirmation action. Save this as a separate layout so you can return to the default mapping without losing your experiment.
Do not describe the demo as having confirmed full controller support solely because it launches. Pointer-dependent screens, text entry, crafting interfaces, or menus can still require the touchscreen or a trackpad.
Graphics, performance, and stability
The available listing information does not include a Deck-specific frame-rate target, tested graphics preset, battery result, or resolution recommendation. Avoid treating the Windows minimums as a performance guarantee on SteamOS. They establish the publisher’s stated baseline for Windows, not a measured Deck profile.
Use the game’s own graphics controls first
If the demo runs but feels slow, open its graphics or display settings and lower demanding options before changing system-level settings. Steam Support recommends reducing graphics settings when performance is poor. Apply one change, return to gameplay, and check whether responsiveness improves; this keeps the cause of an improvement clear.

Keep SteamOS current
Install available SteamOS updates and restart the Deck before repeating a launch test. A restart clears a stuck game process and ensures that a newly installed compatibility component is actually being used. If the title was installed to removable storage, also verify that the card is mounted and has free space.
Separate launch problems from performance problems
- No window or immediate return to Library: treat this as a compatibility-tool or installation issue and follow the Proton steps.
- A window opens but controls do nothing: treat this as an input issue and test touch or trackpad control.
- The game runs but feels slow: lower in-game graphics settings and retest before changing Proton.
- The game becomes unstable after several launches: restart the Deck, confirm SteamOS is current, and test whether the behavior changes with the forced Proton setting disabled or with another installed release.
What the demo includes
The demo is not described as a short, time-limited trial. In a Steam Community announcement, Gabriel’s Games says there is no playtime cap and no progression cap, so you can continue exploring, training, crafting, fighting, and building Summoners instead of reaching a fixed timer or level wall.
| Content claim | Published figure or description | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Regions | All five regions open | Figure published by Gabriel’s Games in 2026. |
| Skills | More than 20 skills trainable to level 99 | Figure published by Gabriel’s Games in 2026. |
| Quests | More than 15 quests in Act I | Figure published by Gabriel’s Games in 2026. |
| Playtime and progression | No playtime cap and no progression cap | Statement from the developer’s Steam Community announcement; it describes the demo’s intended limits, not Deck performance. |
| Core format | Single-player cozy fantasy RPG | The Steam description combines direct control with idle goals, gathering, crafting, combat, exploration, and creature summoning. |
The absence of a time limit makes a Deck test more useful than a five-minute launch check. You can spend enough time to find out whether pointer-heavy screens, saving, crafting, combat, and longer sessions remain comfortable on your particular configuration.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Steam Deck Verified status: what is and is not known
Steam Support groups Deck compatibility into four labels: Verified, Playable, Unsupported, and Unknown. Verified is an official compatibility designation with Valve’s requirements; it is not interchangeable with a community report that a game happened to launch.
No official Deck rating for Soulstonia – Demo is established in the available information. Until a rating appears on the store page, describe the status as unconfirmed rather than calling the demo Verified or Unsupported. Proton can make a Windows-only listing usable on SteamOS, but that technical path does not itself create a Deck rating.

- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
Input metadata deserves the same caution. SteamDB’s mouse-only and touch-only flags are useful warnings to keep pointer input ready, but they do not prove that every feature works, that all text entry is comfortable, or that a community layout provides full gamepad parity.
A practical troubleshooting sequence
Use this order so that each test answers one question and does not overwrite a potentially working setup.
- Confirm the title. Make sure the installed item is Soulstonia – Demo and app 4448060, not a similarly named shortcut or non-Steam copy.
- Complete the download. Check that Steam reports the installation finished and that the selected drive has free space beyond the stated 500 MB Windows minimum.
- Launch once with Steam’s default choice. Note whether you reach a title screen, a blank window, an error, or an immediate return to the Library.
- Apply the per-game Proton override. Use Properties > Compatibility, enable the forced Steam Play tool, select the latest Proton release shown by Steam, and test again.
- Test pointer input. If the screen is visible but buttons are inaccessible, use the touchscreen and then the trackpads.
- Lower graphics settings. Do this only after the game launches and responds, and change one option at a time.
- Restart and retest. Reboot the Deck after updates or a stuck process, then repeat the last known configuration.
- Undo unnecessary overrides. If the default setting works better, disable the forced tool and keep the simpler configuration.
What a successful Deck setup should look like
A reasonable personal definition of “working” is more demanding than seeing the opening screen. The demo should launch repeatedly, accept enough physical or touch input to navigate its menus, and remain usable while you perform the activities the demo advertises. Because no published Deck benchmark is available, judge smoothness, battery life, and control comfort on your own device rather than quoting an unverified frame-rate claim.
- The correct demo is installed from Steam.
- The title launches either with Steam’s default compatibility choice or with a documented Proton override.
- You can operate pointer-dependent screens with the touchscreen or trackpad when buttons are insufficient.
- Graphics settings are low enough for your preferred responsiveness.
- You know which configuration produced the reliable result and can restore it after an update.
Bottom line for Deck owners
The Soulstonia demo is worth trying on Steam Deck if you are comfortable with Proton and mixed controls. The installation path is straightforward, the demo advertises unrestricted playtime and progression, and its published content includes five regions, more than 20 skills with level-99 training, and over 15 Act I quests. The important limits are equally clear: the listing documents Windows and macOS rather than Linux, no official Deck rating is established, and mouse-only or touch-only metadata means a conventional controller may not be enough for every interaction.
