You can play the original 2014 P.T. teaser on a Windows, Linux, or macOS computer with the unofficial PT-PC port, but the installer is not a complete copy of the game. You must provide compatible P.T. files from your own dump or supported decrypted fake PKG. The project does not contain Konami’s game data, does not decrypt Sony-encrypted retail packages, and is not an official Konami or Kojima Productions release.
A microphone is optional. PT-PC documents a keyboard or controller workaround for the sequence that listens for the name “Jack.” A Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU is required, and the project’s current documentation is the authority for supported downloads and version-specific instructions.

What you need before installing PT-PC
PT-PC is a native fan-made PC port of the PlayStation 4 playable teaser P.T., the 2014 teaser associated with the cancelled Silent Hills project. It is not an emulator and it is not one of the older projects that merely recreates the hallway in another engine. The port rebuilds game logic in C++, renders through Vulkan, and loads the original levels, models, textures, sounds, scripts, and cutscenes at runtime from files you supply.

The original teaser was released on PlayStation Network in 2014 and was delisted in early 2015. PT-PC is intended to make that original experience usable on current computers, but the project remains unofficial. Its documentation says it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Konami or Kojima Productions, and that the repository and installer contain none of their assets.

The essential file requirement
Installing the port alone will not produce a playable game. You need a compatible copy of P.T. in one of the formats accepted by the project’s installer:
- A compatible dumped game folder.
- A supported decrypted fake PKG.
The installer checks that the input is recognized as P.T. It refuses encrypted retail or store PKGs and does not decrypt Sony-encrypted material. The project documents support for dumped or fake-PKG releases associated with US, European, and Japanese title IDs; its developer identifies the US release as the version tested by the project. Those are technical compatibility notes, not a blanket legal determination about acquiring, retaining, or extracting game files. Follow the rules that apply where you live and use only files you are entitled to use.

Graphics and input requirements
- GPU and driver: Vulkan 1.3 support is required. Check both the GPU capability and the installed driver; having a recent operating system alone does not guarantee Vulkan 1.3.
- macOS graphics layer: PT-PC uses MoltenVK to run Vulkan through Apple’s Metal graphics API.
- Voice sequence: A microphone can be used for the original voice-triggered interaction, but it is not mandatory because the project documents a keyboard/controller trigger.
Optional rendering features have narrower requirements. Ray-traced features require Vulkan ray queries and are not available on macOS. DLSS requires GeForce RTX hardware, while FSR and XeSS have their own documented availability limits. Treat these as optional enhancements, not baseline requirements for launching the port.

Use the PT-PC project’s official GitHub Releases page and current README rather than mirrors or repackaged downloads. Operating-system support, installer behavior, and optional graphics features can change between releases. The README is also where the project publishes the current archive names, launch notes, and any changed file-layout instructions.

Windows and Linux users can choose the installer or a documented portable download. The installer is designed to accept either a compatible game folder or a supported fake PKG. macOS users download the archive for their processor family—Apple silicon or Intel—and then select their game dump during setup.
Install PT-PC on Windows or Linux
- Prepare your game files. Put the compatible P.T. dump folder or decrypted fake PKG in an easy-to-find location. Do not rename files or alter the internal structure unless the current README specifically instructs you to do so.
- Download the matching release. From the project’s Releases page, select the current Windows x64 or Linux x86-64 package. On Linux, verify that the system meets the documented glibc 2.38-or-newer requirement.
- Run the installer. Open the installer and choose the game-file input when prompted. Point it at the dump folder or supported fake PKG, not at an encrypted retail/store PKG.
- Let the installer validate the input. PT-PC checks whether the selected files are recognized as P.T. If validation fails, confirm that you selected the actual game root or a supported decrypted package, then compare the region and release format with the README.
- Choose an installation location. Select a folder with enough free space and normal read/write access. Avoid protected system directories if your operating system would block the application from reading its installed data.
- Finish and launch. Start PT-PC from the installed executable or the portable folder. On first launch, allow the application through your firewall only if your system asks; the game itself does not require downloading the original assets from an unknown server.
The project’s installer may display a note when it detects a different regional version. A warning about region is not the same as a missing-file error; read the message and continue only when the project’s current documentation lists that release as supported.
Install PT-PC on macOS
- Identify your Mac. Open Apple menu > About This Mac and note whether the machine uses Apple silicon or an Intel processor.
- Download the corresponding archive. Select the Apple-silicon or Intel build from the current project release. The developer has not run the Intel build on Intel hardware, so treat Intel support as documented but less field-verified by the project itself.
- Extract the archive. Move the application to a folder where your account can read and execute it. Keep the game dump available while completing setup.
- Open the application and select the dump. When macOS asks for the game location, choose your compatible folder or supported decrypted fake PKG.
- Approve the unsigned application if necessary. If Gatekeeper blocks the first launch, open System Settings > Privacy & Security, locate the message about the blocked app, and choose the option to allow it. Only do this for the archive obtained from the project’s official release channel.
- Launch again. Start the app normally after approval and check that Vulkan initialization completes before changing optional graphics settings.
Configure the microphone sequence without buying a microphone
One sequence in the original teaser listens for the player saying “Jack.” PT-PC supports that interaction with a microphone, but the project also documents a built-in alternative for players who do not have one or whose microphone is unreliable.
- Open PT-PC’s in-game settings.
- Go to PC Sound.
- Enable Assign J / L2 + R2 for the microphone trigger.
- When the voice prompt appears, press the J key on a keyboard, or press both controller triggers (L2 and R2) together.
This workaround makes a microphone optional rather than a required purchase. If you prefer the voice interaction, connect a working microphone before launching and confirm that your operating system has granted PT-PC permission to access it. The project does not require a particular microphone model.

Choose keyboard or controller input
The documented trigger workaround supports either keyboard or controller input. Use the control scheme that is already recognized by your operating system, then test it at the prompt rather than repeatedly changing unrelated bindings. If the game does not react, return to PC Sound and verify that the assignment remains enabled; a controller can also be checked in the operating system’s game-controller panel before relaunching.
Graphics options and what they mean
Vulkan 1.3 is the baseline
PT-PC’s renderer uses Vulkan, so a machine that cannot expose Vulkan 1.3 through its installed driver will not meet the project’s stated requirement. Updating the GPU driver is appropriate when the hardware supports Vulkan but the runtime reports an older version. If the GPU itself lacks Vulkan 1.3, changing game settings cannot supply the missing capability.
Upscaling and ray tracing are optional
The project documents support for modern optional features, but availability depends on hardware and operating system:

- FSR and XeSS: Availability varies by the project build and graphics hardware; check the current README before enabling them.
Start with the default renderer. Add one optional feature at a time so that a driver or compatibility problem can be identified without guessing which setting caused it.

Troubleshoot the most common installation failures
“The installer refuses my PKG”
The most likely explanation is that the package is an encrypted retail or store PKG. PT-PC’s installer does not decrypt Sony-encrypted material. Use a compatible dumped folder or supported decrypted fake PKG instead, and verify the format against the current README. Do not look for an unofficial decrypting tool bundled with a mirror download.
“The installer says this is not P.T.”
Check that you selected the game root rather than a parent folder, an archive that has not been extracted, or unrelated PS4 content. If the files are from a different region, read the installer’s regional note and confirm that the title ID is among the project’s documented US, EU, or Japanese variants.
“The game starts but Vulkan fails”
- Confirm that the GPU supports Vulkan 1.3.
- Install the current driver supplied for your GPU and operating system.
- On Linux, verify the system has glibc 2.38 or newer as required by the project.
- On macOS, use the project’s macOS build and remember that it routes Vulkan through MoltenVK.
- Disable optional ray-tracing or upscaling features until basic rendering works.
“macOS will not open the app”
Unsigned-app blocking is a normal first-launch obstacle for this kind of distribution. Confirm that the archive came from the project’s official release channel, then use System Settings > Privacy & Security to allow the blocked application. If you downloaded the wrong processor build, replace it with the Apple-silicon or Intel archive that matches your Mac.
“The voice prompt does nothing”
You do not need to purchase a microphone immediately. Open PC Sound and enable Assign J / L2 + R2 for the microphone trigger, then press J or both controller triggers when prompted. If you are using a microphone, check the operating system’s input permission and selected input device before trying again.

“A feature is missing on my Mac”
That may be expected rather than a broken installation. Ray-traced features are not available on macOS, and hardware-specific technologies such as DLSS require compatible GeForce RTX hardware. Use the feature-availability notes in the current README as the final check for your release.
How this differs from older P.T. recreations
Earlier fan projects recreated the look and mood of P.T. in other engines. PT-PC’s stated design is different: it reads the original game’s supplied assets and data at runtime while rebuilding the game logic and renderer for PC. PC Gamer reported developer Lorean Xavier’s explanation that preserving the original assets, sounds, animations, and behavior was the goal, including the concern that something so influential could become practically unplayable.
That distinction matters when choosing an approach. A recreation may run without an original PS4 dump but can differ in scenes, timing, audio, animation, or scripted behavior. PT-PC requires compatible original files, yet its documented purpose is to use those files rather than substitute newly created content. The project says it plays the complete teaser, including the voice section; that is the developer’s project description, not an independent test claim.
Keep the setup safe and maintainable
- Download only from the project’s official Releases page and README.
- Keep your original dump unchanged and point the installer at a copy when practical, so a failed update does not damage your source files.
- Record which PT-PC release you installed and which regional file set you used; this makes future troubleshooting much easier.
- Recheck the README after updates because operating-system support, installer checks, and optional graphics features are version-sensitive.
- Do not download “complete PC versions” that claim to include P.T. assets. The official project documentation explicitly says the port and installer do not include those assets.
What to expect on first launch
- PT-PC validates or loads the game data you selected during installation.
- The renderer initializes through Vulkan; a successful launch confirms the baseline graphics path, not that every optional feature is available.
- Open the controls and PC Sound settings before beginning so you can choose a microphone or the J/L2+R2 workaround.
- Play through the teaser normally. If a prompt appears to require voice input, use the configured alternative rather than assuming a microphone is mandatory.
Because PT-PC is an unofficial project, its compatibility claims can evolve. Treat the release notes and README accompanying your download as the final word for a particular build, while keeping the core expectations unchanged: bring compatible original files, meet the Vulkan 1.3 requirement, and use the documented input workaround if needed.
