If you are traveling or expect an extended period without a connection, complete the verification before leaving and keep the seven-day limit in mind. A console that has not checked in during that period may need to connect again before classic-game access is available. This condition is easy to overlook when comparing a subscription app with a locally installed PC project.
If the membership lapses, access to the classic-game software requires an active subscription. Nintendo notes that local save data remains on the console and can be accessed again if the membership is renewed. That is different from uninterrupted access: a saved game being present does not remove the membership requirement for opening the software. If you cancel, distinguish between losing current access to the app and losing the local save; Nintendo’s stated condition is that the save remains on the console.
Use Ship of Harkinian on a Windows PC
Ship of Harkinian is an unofficial project, not a Nintendo PC release. Its Windows setup guide says the download contains code but not Nintendo-licensed game assets: “This does NOT provide you with any Nintendo Licensed Assets…” You must provide a compatible game source and follow the project’s process to extract the assets required to run it.
The project’s ROM-dumping guide describes one source-media workflow using an official GameCube disc. Its examples include Ocarina of Time & Master Quest (PAL) and Zelda Collector’s Edition (PAL). The guide describes using a Wii or Wii U, a PC, and Dolphin or the project’s provided script as part of the procedure. A disc is not a ready-to-play PC copy: it is part of a multi-step process that requires compatible equipment and software.
- Read the current Windows setup guide. Start with the project’s own instructions so you know which project build and compatible source formats it currently supports. Follow its version information rather than assuming any ROM will work.

- Launch the resulting project setup. Keep the project software and the source-media requirements distinct: the project provides code, while the user supplies compatible game assets.
What this PC route does and does not provide
The project’s instructions describe an asset-dependent setup, not a download of the original game assets from the project. They do not establish that every edition or ROM dump is supported, nor do they provide a universal one-click installation procedure. Check the current project documentation for supported versions and platform-specific requirements before proceeding.

The project’s guide describes the particular disc-dumping workflow above; it does not establish that owning a disc automatically permits every kind of copy or download. Do not use unofficial ROM-download sites as a substitute for the guide’s source-media process.

- Prepare the game assets on a PC. The project guide requires a PC to generate the asset file; the Switch route does not remove the asset-source requirement.
- Follow the project’s file-layout instructions. Place the generated assets and project files as specified in the current guide.
- Use the documented launch method. The guide describes launching through Atmosphere’s Game+R method. Follow the project’s own instructions for your setup rather than substituting ordinary eShop or Nintendo Classics steps.
This option is not simply a way to install the Windows build on a Switch. It has its own project guide, file layout, and launch procedure, and it depends on the PC-generated asset file. A reader starting with a stock console would first need to address the modification prerequisite; the instructions described here are not an alternative Nintendo app download. Nintendo’s support FAQ states its position against unauthorized distribution and downloading of pirate copies, and points users toward Nintendo eShop and Nintendo’s website as official channels for authentic games. That is Nintendo’s policy position; it is not, by itself, a legal ruling about a particular person’s disc-dumping or backup activity in every country.
The Ship of Harkinian guide describes a workflow based on a legally sourced official disc, but neither that guide nor Nintendo’s FAQ resolves every jurisdiction’s rules for making or using a backup. Laws differ by location, and ownership of a physical game should not be presented as blanket authorization for any download or copy. If the legal status matters to your situation, check the law that applies where you live or seek qualified legal advice.
Keep the distinction between an official source and a compatible asset file clear. Nintendo’s policy points users toward its official channels for authentic games; Ship of Harkinian’s documented process, separately, tells users to supply assets and describes using an official disc as source media.
