What each edition includes
Part I: the PS5 remake and PC edition
The PS5 Standard Edition includes the full single-player story and the prequel chapter Left Behind. PlayStation describes this release as a ground-up remake and says there is no upgrade path from the older PS3 and PS4 releases to the PS5 remake. If you own one of those older versions, treat the remake as a separate edition rather than an upgrade.

#1 Best Overall
- Enhanced visuals: Completely rebuilt from the ground up using Naughty Dog’s latest PS5 engine technology to improve every visual detail, The Last of Us experience has been faithfully enhanced with more realistic lighting and atmosphere, more intricate environments and creative reimaginings of familiar spaces.
- Fast loading: Initial loading times are near instant, and seamless after the first instance thanks to the PS5 console’s SSD – so you can pick up where you left off in the story and load specific encounters and chapters more quickly.
- Haptic feedback: DualSense wireless controller haptic feedback support for every weapon elevates combat encounters, and environments are brought to life through DualSense wireless controller haptic sensations of subtle falling rain, the crunch of stepping on snow and more.
- Adaptive triggers: All The Last of Us iconic weapons, including Joel’s revolver and Ellie’s bow, now deliver dynamic DualSense wireless controller trigger resistance and kickback on firing for deeper combat immersion.
- 3D Audio: Designed to make use of the PS5 console’s Tempest 3D AudioTech, Naughty Dog’s newly upgraded audio engine delivers richer soundscapes, bigger explosive moments and more visceral gameplay through compatible stereo headphones (analogue or USB) or TV speakers.
Part II: choose Remastered on PS5 or PC
The PC release is The Last of Us Part II Remastered, not a separate PC edition of the original PS4 release. In addition to the campaign, Remastered includes No Return, a roguelike survival mode; Lost Levels with developer commentary; and Guitar Free Play. Chronological mode, which presents the story in chronological order, was added to the PS5 and PC versions in a July 2025 update. Naughty Dog: Chronological mode update.
How to play on PC
- Choose the edition. For the first game, select The Last of Us Part I. For the second, select The Last of Us Part II Remastered.
- Choose a storefront. The official PC purchase links for both games are Steam and the Epic Games Store. Check the listing for your region before buying.
- Install and launch from that storefront. Follow its prompts to download the game and any available updates.
- Choose your controls. A controller is optional; the cited official sources do not say that a DualSense is required to play on PC. Part II Remastered supports DualSense, but a wired connection is required for its full range of controller features. Naughty Dog: Part II Remastered PC features.
How to play on PS5
- For Part I, select the PS5 remake. The Standard Edition includes the story and Left Behind. The older PS3 and PS4 versions do not upgrade to this remake.
- For Part II, select Part II Remastered. This is the PS5 edition with the Remastered additions described above.
- Buy through your regional PlayStation Store or check the local subscription catalog. PlayStation’s US product pages advertise Extra catalog access, but the listing in your country may differ or change.
- Use a DualSense if you want its PS5 features. PlayStation describes DualSense features for these PS5 releases; the controller is not the only way to play on PC.
Can you stream either game?
PlayStation’s US product pages list cloud streaming for both games on PS5 and PlayStation Portal with PlayStation Plus Premium. They also advertise Extra catalog access. These are PlayStation-service listings, not evidence that either PC edition is available through a third-party PC cloud-gaming service. Confirm the game’s current availability, your country’s service support, and the supported device and subscription tier on PlayStation’s local pages before subscribing or planning to stream.

Which route should you choose?
- Already have a gaming PC? Buy the PC edition from Steam or the Epic Games Store: Part I for the first game, Part II Remastered for the second.
- Want to play on PS5? Choose the Part I remake and Part II Remastered in the PlayStation Store.
- Prefer a subscription? Check whether each game is currently in your regional PlayStation Plus Extra catalog. Catalog access is not the same as owning a copy.
- Want to stream on a PlayStation device? The US product pages list PS5 and PS Portal cloud streaming with Premium. Verify local availability and current terms first.
In short, the practical choice is determined by the device you own, whether you want to buy or use a subscription catalog, and whether you need streaming. Avoid assuming that PlayStation’s cloud listing means PC cloud support: the cited pages do not establish that.
