How to play the PS4 edition on PS5
Download the digital edition from your game library, or use a PS4 disc in a PS5 model with a disc drive. A disc cannot be used on PS5 Digital Edition. When playing from disc, keep it inserted for each play session. Sony recommends keeping the PS5 system software current and notes that some PS4 features may be unavailable on PS5. - Digital copy: Open your PS5 game library, select Shadow of the Colossus, and download it.
- PS4 disc: Insert the disc into the PS5 disc drive, select the game hub, and let any required update install. Leave the disc in the drive when you play.

Why PS4 and PS3 editions are different
The PS3 version is a remaster; the later PS4 release is a remake. In a PlayStation Blog interview, Bluepoint Games president Marco Thrush explained: “With Shadow of the Colossus we’re working on a remake — it’s not really a remaster. One, because we already did the remaster.” PlayStation Blog interview
That distinction matters if you specifically want the PS3-era release: installing the PS4 edition on a PS5 does not give you the PS3 version. Sony says PS5 consoles do not support PS3 game discs, so playing that disc-based version requires PS3 hardware. Sony’s compatibility guidance
