Quordle asks you to solve four separate five-letter words using the same guesses. Each guess earns its own color feedback on each board, so the key is to track clues separately and use early turns to test letters that may help across several answers.
How to play Quordle
- Choose a mode. Check the guess limit shown before you begin; it varies by mode.
- Enter a five-letter word. Type it with your physical or on-screen keyboard.
- Submit the guess. Press Enter. Use Backspace to remove a letter before submitting.
- Read each board independently. The same guess is scored separately against all four hidden answers.
- Use the clues to make your next guess. Continue until all four words are solved or you run out of attempts in the selected mode.
The Quordle.game and Quordle.me rules pages describe versions with nine attempts, but that is not a universal limit across modes or sites using the Quordle name. The current official listing shows different budgets for some modes.

What the colors mean
- Green: the letter is in the answer and in the correct position.
- Yellow: the letter is in the answer, but belongs in a different position.
- Gray: the letter is not in that board’s answer.
These clues apply only to the board where they appear. A letter can be green on one board and gray on another, so don’t carry a result from one grid over to the other three.

How many guesses do you get?
The official game listing displayed on October 7, 2026, gives these limits and mode descriptions:

The listing names Rescue but the accessible description does not establish its mechanics. It also lists a weekly challenge unlocked by solving a Daily Classic puzzle. Mode names, rules, and availability can change, so rely on the limit and instructions displayed when you start rather than assuming every version follows Classic’s nine-guess budget.
How to use early guesses well
Test useful letters across the boards
For your first two or three guesses, try words that test many distinct letters. The rules page recommends common letters such as E, A, R, S, T, O, L, I, and N. This is a practical information-gathering heuristic, not a proven optimal opening; the aim is to learn something useful on several boards at once.
Keep a separate mental record for each grid
Note which letters are confirmed, misplaced, or excluded on each board. A gray letter on one answer may still be part of another answer, and a yellow letter must be tested in a different position on that particular board.
Shift from broad testing to solving
As clues accumulate, make guesses that fit the known pattern while avoiding letters ruled out on that board. If only one board remains unsolved, focus guesses more tightly on its pattern and exclusions rather than continuing to optimize for boards you have already completed.

What are the quadrants on the keyboard?
The Quordle.me instructions describe a keyboard divided into four sections, allowing letter status to be tracked by board. Use those sections as board-specific clue summaries, not as one global keyboard state: the same letter may have a different status in each quadrant because each hidden answer is different.

Choose based on the displayed guess budget and how much of a challenge you want. Classic is the straightforward starting point with nine guesses. Chill allows twelve and is described as using fewer unusual words, while Extreme has eight guesses and more unusual words. Sequence changes the task order by presenting one word at a time. The accessible listing does not explain enough about Rescue to recommend it on mechanics alone.
