You do not need a PS5 emulator to play PlayStation games on a PC. There are three supported routes: buy a game’s separate native PC edition, stream a game from your own PS5 or PS4 with PS Remote Play, or stream eligible titles from the PlayStation Plus catalog through Sony’s PC app. The right choice depends on the specific game, whether you own a console, your region, and whether you prefer a one-time PC purchase or a subscription.
Those routes are not interchangeable. A console purchase does not unlock a PC copy, Remote Play still requires your console to run the game, and PlayStation Plus streaming does not include every PlayStation title.

Before installing anything, identify the exact game you want. A title may have a native PC edition, be playable through Remote Play, appear in the PlayStation Plus catalog, fit two of those categories, or fit none. No method makes the entire PlayStation catalog available on PC.
Choose the method that fits your game and equipment
Choose a native PC edition when the game is listed for PC
Use this route when PlayStation’s current PC games catalog links the title to a PC storefront listing. The catalog is title-specific; it is not a promise that every console release will receive a PC version. Check the actual listing for the game you want, including its edition and region, before buying.

Choose Remote Play when you own a PS5 or PS4 and the game is installed or playable there
Remote Play is effectively a remote screen and controller connection. Your console does the processing and sends video to the PC while the PC sends your input back. It can therefore work with console games that have no native PC edition, provided the game can be played on your console and your network is suitable.
Choose PlayStation Plus streaming when the title is in your local eligible catalog
This option does not use your own console. It streams games selected for the PlayStation Plus service through Sony’s PC app. Catalog membership, supported countries, plan eligibility, and individual game availability vary, so verify all four for your region before relying on this method.
Method 1: Buy the game’s native PC version
How to verify that a PC edition exists
- Open PlayStation’s official PC games catalog.
- Find the exact game and edition. The catalog currently displays PC offerings including Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and The Last of Us Part II Remastered, among other titles.
- Follow the catalog’s Steam or Epic Games Store listing and confirm that the page is for the PC version, not a console product or soundtrack, upgrade, or add-on.
- Check the store page for regional availability, system requirements, supported input devices, and any account requirement before purchasing.
The storefront listing is the final check because catalog entries and product availability can change. A game being made by PlayStation Studios does not by itself establish that a PC edition exists.
Understand the separate-product rule
Sony’s PlayStation PC FAQ states: “Yes, the PC and console versions of PlayStation Studios games are different products.” In practical terms, buying a PS4 or PS5 edition does not provide the PC copy, and buying the PC edition does not provide the console copy. Plan for a separate purchase unless the product listing explicitly says otherwise.
Save data is also separated: Sony says save data currently cannot transfer between the PC and console editions of a PlayStation Studios title. Do not purchase a PC copy expecting your console progress to appear automatically.
Check account and controller requirements
PlayStation Studios PC games generally do not require a PlayStation Network account, but Sony says selected titles do. Read the individual product details rather than assuming one policy applies to every game.
A DualSense controller can be used with PlayStation Studios PC games through a wired connection. Wireless operation and DualSense-specific features vary by title, so a game that accepts the controller may not expose every haptic, adaptive-trigger, audio, or other feature on PC. Treat the game’s PC listing as the authority.

What local PC play changes
With a native edition, the PC runs the game instead of receiving a console or cloud video stream. That removes the requirement to keep a PS5 or PS4 available for the session and avoids Remote Play’s dependence on the console-to-PC connection. It does not remove ordinary PC requirements: you still need a compatible operating system, graphics hardware, storage, and drivers as specified by the storefront.
Method 2: Use PS Remote Play from your PS5 or PS4
What Remote Play actually does
Sony describes Remote Play as using the PS Remote Play app to control a PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 from a Windows PC or Mac connected to a high-speed network. The game remains a console game. The PC displays the console’s stream and returns your controls; it does not emulate the PS5 hardware or convert the game into a native PC application.

Set up Remote Play
- Update the PS5 or PS4 and confirm that the console is connected to the internet.
- In the console’s settings, enable the Remote Play feature. If you want to wake the console while it is in Rest Mode, review the console’s Rest Mode network settings as well.
- Install the PS Remote Play app on the supported Windows PC or Mac.
- Sign in to the app with the same PlayStation account used on the console.
- Connect a compatible controller to the computer with a USB cable, then follow the app’s on-screen pairing instructions.
- Select the PS5 or PS4 in the app. When the connection succeeds, the console screen appears in the app.
- Start the game from the console interface. The game must be owned or otherwise available on that console; Remote Play does not grant a new license.
- Open the app’s video-quality settings if necessary and adjust resolution or frame rate to match the stability of your connection.
Make Remote Play more reliable
Sony’s 5 Mbps figure is a minimum baseline, not a promise of a particular resolution or latency. Its 15 Mbps upload-and-download recommendation is intended to provide a better experience, but actual results still depend on connection stability, congestion, distance, and the console and PC network paths. If the picture breaks up or controls feel delayed, lower the app’s resolution or frame-rate setting before assuming the console or game is defective.
A wired connection for the computer or console can reduce one source of wireless variability. If you cannot maintain the minimum connection, Remote Play may disconnect, lower image quality, or become unsuitable for fast-response games. The app’s stream settings let you trade visual quality for a more stable connection.

- The PS5 or PS4 must be available to run the game. Turning off the console or losing its network connection ends the session.
- The PC does not receive a native executable, so PC-only graphics options and mods are not part of this route.
- Remote Play does not transfer console saves to a PC edition. You are continuing the console session remotely.
- Input response and image quality can vary even when a speed test exceeds the minimum, because consistency matters as much as the headline Mbps number.
Method 3: Stream eligible games with PlayStation Plus on PC
How this route differs from Remote Play
PlayStation Plus PC streaming uses Sony’s service rather than your own PS5 or PS4. You select an eligible game from the service’s catalog and stream it through Sony’s PC app. Your console does not need to own, install, or run that game.
Requirements and regional qualifications
- An adult PlayStation account.
- A PlayStation Plus membership that includes the relevant streaming access.
- A compatible controller.
- Broadband of at least 5 Mbps; Sony recommends wired internet for the best connection.
- A supported country or region, a currently available PC app, and a catalog that includes the particular game.
Sony’s US support page lists Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 and modest app requirements, but software support can change. Check the current support page for your country before installing or subscribing. Do not treat the US page’s plan availability, operating-system list, or catalog as universal.
Start a PlayStation Plus PC streaming session
- Confirm that PlayStation Plus PC streaming is offered in your region.
- Check the local catalog for the exact game. A game’s presence in another country, on another plan, or in an older catalog does not establish that you can stream it.
- Install Sony’s PlayStation Plus PC app from the current official support destination.
- Sign in with an adult PlayStation account that has the required membership.
- Connect a compatible controller. Sony lists DUALSHOCK 4 support; some third-party XInput PC controllers may work, but Sony does not guarantee full compatibility for them.
- Choose the game in the app and start streaming. Keep the computer connected to a stable broadband connection throughout the session.
Streaming restrictions
Sony says add-ons and downloadable content cannot be used while streaming through the PC app. If a game’s core catalog entry is available but a required expansion is not, that expansion cannot be assumed to work. Party Chat is also not supported in the PC app according to Sony’s support information.
Streaming access is not permanent ownership of every game in the PlayStation catalog. Games can be added or removed, and eligibility can differ by country and membership plan. Verify the game immediately before you rely on it for a play session.

Controller and cable checklist
A compatible controller is central to both streaming methods. For Remote Play, Sony identifies DualSense, DualSense Edge, and DUALSHOCK 4. For PlayStation Plus PC streaming, Sony lists DUALSHOCK 4 and notes that some third-party XInput controllers may work without guaranteeing complete compatibility.
For a native PlayStation Studios PC game, Sony supports wired DualSense use. Wireless support and advanced DualSense features vary by title, so connect the controller by USB first when troubleshooting. A USB cable is a setup requirement for Remote Play; the instructions do not require a particular cable model.
- If the app does not detect the controller, reconnect the USB cable, close other software that may be capturing the device, and restart the app.
- If basic buttons work but advanced effects do not, check the game’s PC support notes rather than assuming the controller is faulty.
- If a third-party controller behaves inconsistently in PlayStation Plus streaming, switch to a controller listed by Sony before diagnosing the network.
Troubleshooting by symptom
“I bought the PS5 version, but the PC store wants me to pay again.”
That is expected under Sony’s separate-product policy. The PC and console editions are different products. Check whether a native PC edition exists and purchase that edition if you want local PC play. Otherwise use Remote Play from the console copy or check the PlayStation Plus catalog.

“My game is not in the PC catalog.”
Do not infer availability from the fact that another PlayStation Studios title is on PC. Search the current official catalog and the linked storefront listing for the exact game. If it is absent, the supported alternatives are Remote Play, if you own a compatible console, or PlayStation Plus streaming, if the title is in your local eligible catalog.

“Remote Play connects, but the image is blurry or delayed.”
Check that both upload and download capacity meet Sony’s 5 Mbps minimum, then work toward its 15 Mbps recommendation in both directions. Reduce Remote Play resolution or frame rate, prefer a wired connection where practical, and stop other heavy network activity. No speed figure guarantees a fixed resolution or latency.
“The PS Remote Play app cannot find my console.”
Confirm that the console is updated, Remote Play is enabled, the app uses the same PlayStation account, and the console is online. If you expect to connect while the console is in Rest Mode, review its network-wake settings. A console that is fully powered off cannot provide a Remote Play session.
“The PlayStation Plus app says the game is unavailable.”
Check your country, membership plan, and the current catalog entry. The service is regional and changes over time. A title available to a friend in another country or on another plan may not be streamable from your account.
“I can start the streamed game but cannot use an expansion or Party Chat.”
Sony states that add-ons and DLC cannot be used while streaming in the PC app and that Party Chat is not supported there. This is a service limitation, not evidence that the controller or broadband connection is failing.

- Write down the exact game and edition you want.
- Check PlayStation’s current PC catalog and its linked Steam or Epic Games Store listing.
- If no native PC edition is listed, ask whether you own a PS5 or PS4 that can run the game. If yes, use Remote Play.
- If you do not own a console, check PlayStation Plus PC streaming in your country and search its current catalog.
- Compare the access model: separate PC purchase, console ownership, or recurring membership.
- Check controller compatibility and have a USB cable ready for Remote Play setup.
- Measure the connection against the relevant baseline: 5 Mbps minimum for the documented streaming services, with Remote Play’s 15 Mbps upload-and-download recommendation for better performance.
- Verify regional and title-specific details immediately before purchase or subscription because catalogs, requirements, and availability can change.
What this means for future releases
The current PC catalog proves only that the listed titles have PC offerings. It is not a commitment that every future console game will come to PC, and it is not proof that no unlisted game will ever arrive. Avoid relying on rumors about a blanket publishing policy; check an official listing or announcement for the particular game.
The same caution applies to PlayStation Plus. A catalog entry, operating-system requirement, or app feature can change, and the US support information does not establish identical availability in every country.
Bottom line
For the best local PC experience, buy the game’s separate native PC edition when one is listed. If you already own the game on a PS5 or PS4, Remote Play is the route that puts that console session on your PC. If you have no console, PlayStation Plus PC streaming can work for eligible games in supported regions, but it is a catalog subscription rather than universal access. In every case, verify the exact game, edition, region, controller, and network requirements before spending money.
