You can play selected PlayStation 5 games on a Windows PC without owning a PS5 by using cloud streaming in Sony’s PlayStation Plus PC app. You need a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription, an adult PlayStation account, a compatible controller, a supported Windows computer and broadband internet. The game runs on Sony’s servers and is streamed to your PC; it is not downloaded or installed as a Windows version.
Eligibility is title- and region-dependent. Sony excludes some games from streaming, and the catalogue can change, so confirm that the specific game is marked as streamable for your account before subscribing solely to play it.

What “playing PS5 games on PC” means here
PlayStation Plus Premium provides cloud streaming through the PlayStation Plus PC app. You choose an eligible game in the app, Sony runs it remotely, and the video and audio are sent to your computer while your controller input is sent back over the internet.
This is different from installing a PS5 game on Windows. Sony’s plan information distinguishes streaming from downloads: PS5 games can be downloaded only to a PlayStation 5 console. The PC app does not turn a PS5 game into a local Windows program, and it does not require a PS5 console for the cloud-streaming workflow.

It is also different from Remote Play. Remote Play mirrors a game running on your own PlayStation console and therefore has a console as part of its setup. The instructions below cover Premium cloud streaming from Sony’s PC app.

Check Premium in your region
Premium is not offered identically in every country. Open the PlayStation Plus plan page for your account region and verify that Premium and cloud streaming are available. The name, catalogue and features can change by region, so a title visible to another player may not appear for you.
Check the game before paying
Search the PlayStation Plus catalogue in the PC app or on Sony’s regional PlayStation Plus pages and look for the game’s streaming option. Do not assume that every PS5 release is included. Sony warns that certain games may not be available to stream, and availability can vary by account region.
Step-by-step: stream a PS5 game on your PC
- Confirm the title and region. Sign in to the PlayStation account you intend to use and check that the game is listed as streamable. If the title is absent, appears only as a purchase or download option, or is unavailable in your country, Premium will not make it playable through the PC app.
- Install the PlayStation Plus PC app. Use Sony’s official PlayStation Plus app download page for Windows. Download the installer, run it, and complete the on-screen installation. Avoid relying on an old installer copied from another PC.
- Sign in with an adult account. Launch the app and log in with the adult PlayStation account that owns the Premium subscription. Sony’s PC streaming requirement is 18 or older; switching to a child account will not bypass it.
- Connect a controller. Pair or plug in a DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller before launching the game. A wired USB connection can simplify detection. Other PC controllers using XInput may work, but Sony does not guarantee complete compatibility for third-party devices.
- Choose the game. Browse the catalogue or use the app’s search function. Open the game page and select the available stream or play command. The exact button label can change with app updates, but it should be presented as a streaming action rather than a Windows download.
- Wait for the stream to start. The app establishes the cloud session and then displays the game. Keep the app open and maintain the network connection for the duration of play.
- Use the PC for sound. Select your computer’s speakers or connected headphones as the listening device. Plugging a headset into the controller will not route audio in this setup.
Can you do this without owning a PS5?
Yes. Sony’s PC App setup lists an account, Premium, broadband, a compatible controller and the app; it does not list a PS5 console as a prerequisite for cloud streaming. The remote game session runs on Sony’s infrastructure.
The no-console answer has two important limits. First, only games Sony makes available for streaming can be played this way. Second, cloud streaming does not grant a local PS5 download. If a game is marked as downloadable only, Sony says that download requires a PS5 console.

Which PS5 games are playable?
There is no permanent promise that every PS5 title will be streamable. Sony’s catalogue is selective, and titles can differ by country. A game may also leave the catalogue or have a different entitlement in another region.
- Check the listing while signed in to the account that will play the game.
- Confirm that the listing offers streaming, not only purchase or console download.
- Check the account’s country or region before comparing catalogue results with a friend.
- Recheck the listing if you postpone playing; catalogue status can change.
Premium access alone does not override a regional restriction or an exclusion applied to a particular game.

Sony’s PC guide gives 5 Mbps as the minimum high-speed connection for PlayStation Plus streaming. Its US PlayStation Plus page states 15 Mbps for 1080p. These are service requirements, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate, latency or visual result.
Sony recommends a wired connection. Ethernet generally avoids the interference and signal swings that can occur on busy Wi-Fi networks. If you must use Wi-Fi, play close to the access point, pause large downloads and uploads, and ask other users to avoid saturating the connection while you test the stream.
Use the numbers correctly
- Below 5 Mbps: You are below Sony’s stated minimum, so the service may fail to start or become unstable.
- 5 Mbps or more: This meets the published minimum, but other traffic, wireless interference and network congestion can still cause interruptions.
- 15 Mbps: Sony’s US page associates this figure with 1080p. It is not an independent performance test or a promise that every session will remain at that resolution.
Run a speed check on the same computer and network you will use for play. A fast package measured at the router does not prove that the PC has a stable path to Sony’s streaming service.

Controller, keyboard and audio limitations
Controller support
Sony names the DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller in its PC guide. Connect it by USB or pair it over Bluetooth using Windows’ Bluetooth settings, then verify that the app responds before starting a game.

Some third-party XInput controllers may function because Windows exposes them as standard gamepads. Sony does not promise full compatibility, however, so a controller that works in another PC game may still have missing buttons or unreliable detection in the PlayStation Plus app.
Keyboard and mouse
You can use a keyboard and mouse to browse the PC app. Sony still requires a compatible controller to play the streamed game, so keyboard navigation should not be treated as a replacement for game input.
Audio and chat
Game audio is delivered through the PC’s speakers or headphones. A headset connected to the controller is not supported for this PC streaming setup. Sony also states that PlayStation Plus on PC does not currently support Party Chat, so plan to use another communication method if you need voice conversation.

Those are the specifications displayed on that support page, not independent performance testing. Its Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 wording may lag the current app’s compatibility policy. Before buying or upgrading a computer, check Sony’s current app download page for the operating systems it presently supports. A newer Windows release may work, but the current installer and support documentation should be the authority.
What you cannot do while streaming
- Install the PS5 version locally: The PC app streams the session; it does not download a Windows copy of the PS5 game.
- Use every add-on: Sony’s PC guide says game add-ons and downloadable content cannot be used while streaming a PlayStation Plus game.
- Use a controller headset for sound: Audio goes to the PC’s speakers or headphones instead.
- Use Party Chat in the PC app: Sony says this feature is not currently supported.
- Assume every catalogue title is eligible: Sony excludes some games and applies regional availability rules.

The first route is the one that lets a PC owner play without purchasing a console, but it trades local installation for catalogue and network dependency.
Troubleshooting common problems
The game does not appear
Confirm that you are signed in to the account with Premium, that Premium is offered in your region and that the title is currently streamable there. If Sony lists the game as a PS5 download only, the PC app cannot provide that download.
The app says the controller is unsupported
Reconnect the controller by USB, close other game-mapping utilities, and restart the app. If you are using a third-party XInput pad, test the DUALSHOCK 4 model Sony explicitly lists. Compatibility for other controllers is not guaranteed.

Check that the connection reaches Sony’s 5 Mbps minimum and, for the 1080p target mentioned on Sony’s US page, 15 Mbps. Switch to Ethernet where possible, stop competing downloads and uploads, and restart the stream after the network is stable.

There is no game sound
Check Windows’ selected output device and the game’s volume settings. Use PC speakers or headphones; moving the headset from the PC to the controller will not solve this particular limitation.
You expected downloadable content or Party Chat
Those are service limitations rather than installation errors. Sony says streamed PlayStation Plus games cannot use game add-ons or DLC, and Party Chat is not currently supported in the PC app.
Is Premium worth it for PC-only play?
That decision depends on the individual games you want, your region and your network. Premium is the tier that includes cloud streaming, so Essential and Extra do not provide the same PC streaming benefit. Before subscribing, verify three things: the target game is streamable, the catalogue is available in your country and your connection can meet Sony’s requirements.

There is no separate PC download entitlement created by Premium. You are paying for access to the eligible streaming catalogue and its cloud sessions, not for a Windows library of PS5 installers.
Bottom line
To play an eligible PS5 game on a PC, install Sony’s PlayStation Plus app, sign in with an adult account that has Premium, connect a compatible controller and start the game’s stream. You do not need a PS5 console, but you do need a title Sony allows your region to stream, at least 5 Mbps of broadband (15 Mbps for the 1080p requirement stated on Sony’s US page), and a setup that sends audio to the PC rather than the controller. Treat the catalogue, regional rules and current Windows compatibility page as the final checks before you subscribe or troubleshoot.
