PT-PC builds a native executable from game files supplied by you from a PlayStation 4 copy. It does not include Konami’s archives, decrypt a retail Store package, or prove that a downloaded installer is malware-free. The safest approach is to obtain the project from the developer’s public repository and its linked Releases page, use your own game dump, and treat the installer’s checks as limited provenance and input-integrity signals rather than a complete security audit.
This guide reflects the project documentation and reporting available on October 13, 2026. Features, supported releases and installer behavior can change, so read the documentation bundled with the exact release you use.

What PT-PC is—and what it is not
PT-PC is described by developer Lorean Xavier as a native, unofficial port. Its game logic was rebuilt in C++, and its renderer uses Vulkan rather than emulating a PlayStation 4. At runtime, it reads levels, models, textures, sounds, scripts and cutscenes from P.T. files that the player supplies.

The current project is intended to cover the teaser from its opening through the street sequence, including the voice interaction. Independent reporting has also described version-sensitive extras such as upscaling, a camera mode, experimental third-person and virtual-reality support, and a museum section. Check the release notes before relying on any of those extras.

The repository and installer contain none of Konami’s game assets. The project states that it is unaffiliated with, not endorsed by and not connected to Konami or Kojima Productions. That disclaimer is important: this is neither an official port nor evidence of rights-holder permission.
Requirements before you start
Supported operating systems and graphics
The README lists these minimum platform categories:

You need a GPU and driver supporting Vulkan 1.3. Optional ray-traced effects require Vulkan ray-query support. DLSS is documented for GeForce RTX hardware; FSR and XeSS are documented for recent GPUs on Windows. These are optional rendering features, not prerequisites for the basic port.

The installer accepts a folder dumped from a console or a fake PKG made from a dump. It can also recognize some extracted or emulator installation folders. You must provide the data yourself; the project does not supply the game archives.
A retail Store PKG remains encrypted for the console that owns it. PT-PC says it does not decrypt that package. An installer failure on an encrypted retail file is therefore expected, not evidence that the port is broken.

When installation succeeds, the installer copies three archives used by the port:
chunk1.psarctexture.qarpathid_list_ps4.bin
Keep the original dump unchanged. Work from a copy so that a failed conversion or an experiment with a regional build does not damage your source files.

Mouse and keyboard are supported, and gamepads are supported. One voice section uses a microphone by default, but the README documents a keyboard- or controller-triggered alternative. A controller or microphone can make the experience more convenient; neither is a compulsory purchase.
Use a safe acquisition path
Start with the project’s own source trail
Begin at the developer’s public repository, LoreanXavier/pt-pc, and follow the release location linked there. This gives you the project’s source, release notes and installer documentation in one provenance chain. The repository identifies the project as MIT-licensed while noting that third-party dependencies retain their own licenses.
A repository page is not a guarantee that every binary is safe. It establishes where the maintainer publishes the project and lets you inspect the source and release history; it is not an independent malware analysis. Avoid repackaged installers hosted by unrelated mirrors when your goal is to establish provenance.

Do not obtain the game data from a mirror
PT-PC requires game data from a player-supplied PS4 copy. Do not substitute a download advertised as a ready-made P.T. folder or PKG. Apart from the unresolved legal questions, a preassembled archive gives you no reliable way to know who created it, whether files were altered, or what else was bundled with it.

Step-by-step installation
- Confirm the host system. Check that you are on Windows 10/11 x64, Linux x86-64 with glibc 2.38 or newer, or macOS 14 or newer. Confirm that the graphics driver supports Vulkan 1.3 before troubleshooting the installer.
- Prepare a working copy of your dump. Use a folder dumped from your own console or a fake PKG created from that dump. Do not point the installer at an encrypted retail Store PKG.
- Download from the project’s repository and linked release. Compare the release you downloaded with the version described in the project documentation. Do not replace the project installer with a third-party repack.
- Read the installer documentation for that release. The documented controls include integrity stamps, payload-file hashing, input checks and installation logging. Note where the installer writes its log and what it reports for an unrecognized input.
- Select the game-data input. Give the installer the dump folder, fake PKG or supported extracted installation folder. It checks PSARC and QAR signatures and looks for P.T. level names in the path list or a known P.T. title ID.
- Review recognition messages. A folder with the relevant path list and title ID should be identified as P.T. If those identifiers are missing, the installer may continue with a note that it could not confirm the data. Treat that as an unresolved input, not as a successful authenticity check.
- Let the installer copy the required archives. Confirm that
chunk1.psarc,texture.qarandpathid_list_ps4.binare present in the installed location. Preserve the installer log alongside the installation so you can diagnose a later failure. - Launch and configure controls. Start with keyboard and mouse if you do not have a controller. If the voice section cannot use your microphone, select the documented keyboard or controller trigger instead.
- Record the exact release and data region. Keep the project version, installer messages and the source release identifier with your backup. This makes a future reinstall reproducible if the project changes its file-recognition rules.
How to verify the port without overstating what is proven
What the installer checks
The installer documentation describes several maintainer-built controls:
- Payload-file hashing: files delivered by the installer can be checked for changes within the installation process.
- Integrity stamps: the installer records integrity-related information for its own payload.
- Input checks: PSARC and QAR signatures, P.T. level names, path-list information and title IDs are used to recognize likely game data.
- Install logging: the process records messages that can explain why an input was rejected or only partially recognized.
These are useful controls for confirming that you are using the project’s expected file types and that the installer completed its own operations. They are maintainer-documented mechanisms, not an independent security audit.
What the installer does not check
The documentation explicitly says that the current native setup does not compare the game archives against a known-good whole-file hash. A successful installation therefore does not prove that your dump is an authentic original, that every byte matches a reference release, or that regional files are interchangeable.

The same limitation applies to malware claims. The reviewed sources contain no independent malware analysis or sandbox test of a specific release binary. A clean antivirus result, a public repository, or the installer’s own self-check cannot establish that a file is malware-free. Keep your operating system and security software current, download only from the project’s own release trail, and stop if a package is unexpectedly repacked, password-protected or asking for unrelated privileges.
Separate three different questions

Regional versions and title IDs
The project says its data was built and tested with the United States release, title ID CUSA01127. European release CUSA01114 and Japanese release CUSA01098 install with a note, but the developer says those archive bytes have not been inspected.
That distinction matters. Installation means the recognition logic accepted enough structure to proceed; it does not mean every internal file is compatible. The documentation warns that some internal differences are not handled and that the game may log files it cannot load.
If you use a European or Japanese release, retain the warning in the installer log and expect possible missing assets or runtime errors. Do not “fix” a regional installation by downloading replacement archives from a mirror. The safest diagnostic is to reproduce the issue with the documented United States data, which is the project’s tested baseline, while preserving your original regional dump.
Troubleshooting by symptom

Graphics and feature expectations
Baseline rendering
Vulkan 1.3 support is the baseline requirement. Start with default rendering settings and confirm that the unmodified game launches before enabling optional effects. This isolates a data or driver problem from a feature-specific problem.

Ray tracing, DLSS, FSR and XeSS
- Ray-traced effects: require Vulkan ray-query support in addition to Vulkan 1.3.
- DLSS: documented for GeForce RTX cards.
- FSR and XeSS: documented for recent GPUs on Windows.
The documentation does not establish a universal performance target for these options. Enable them only after confirming that your driver and hardware meet the relevant requirement, and treat any feature described as experimental as version-sensitive.
Port versus emulation and fan remakes
These approaches solve different problems. PT-PC uses the original game data but replaces the console runtime with a native C++/Vulkan implementation. Emulation attempts to reproduce the original console environment. A fan remake recreates the experience and may not use the original files at all.

Preservation, development and the project’s disclosures
The developer has framed the project partly as a preservation effort. In an interview, Lorean Xavier said, “The idea that something so influential could eventually become practically unplayable never sat right with me.” Stanford curator Henry Lowood has similarly argued that hardware-specific solutions can be dead ends for preservation. Those statements explain the motivation; they do not establish official support or guarantee perfect fidelity.
The README also discloses that AI coding tools were used during development and debugging. The developer says they remained responsible for architecture, implementation decisions, code review and understanding system interactions. This is a disclosure about the development process, not a third-party audit of the code or installer.
A practical safety checklist
- Use the repository and release path maintained by the project, not an unrelated mirror.
- Keep the project installer separate from your original PS4 dump and make a backup before conversion.
- Reject encrypted retail Store packages; PT-PC does not decrypt them.
- Read the installer’s documentation and preserve its log.
- Interpret PSARC/QAR recognition as format detection, not proof of authentic bytes.
- Remember that the native installer does not compare complete game archives with known-good hashes.
- Do not treat antivirus results, repository hosting or self-checks as an independent malware verdict.
- Record the title ID and region, especially if using
CUSA01114orCUSA01098rather than the testedCUSA01127. - Use keyboard and mouse or the documented voice-section workaround if you do not own a controller or microphone.
- Keep legal and authorization questions qualified; the project is explicitly unofficial.
Bottom line
PT-PC offers a practical native-PC way to run P.T. when you supply compatible files from your own PS4 copy. The responsible verification standard is limited but clear: establish provenance from the developer’s repository and release trail, inspect the installer’s documented checks and logs, confirm that the input is recognized, and never mistake those steps for a malware audit or a cryptographic authenticity proof of the game archives. Use the United States release as the documented compatibility baseline, treat European and Japanese builds as uninspected variants, and make your own legal decision with local rules in mind.
