How to Play No Man’s Sky on a Low-End PC with Cloud Gaming

Yes—you can play No Man’s Sky on a low-end PC through cloud gaming when a supported service offers the game in your country. The remote server renders the game, so your computer does not need the full local-play graphics card. It still must run the cloud-gaming app or browser, decode video, accept your controls, and maintain a stable, low-latency connection.

The clearest confirmed route is Xbox Cloud Gaming: its official No Man’s Sky listing identifies cloud play with Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate, while also stating that the game purchase is required. GeForce NOW can be an ownership-based alternative, but you must confirm that No Man’s Sky is currently listed for your specific store, country, and account before relying on it.

What cloud gaming changes

In local PC gaming, your computer performs the rendering, simulation, and video output. Cloud gaming moves most of that work to a remote data center. Your PC receives a compressed video stream and sends back keyboard, mouse, or controller input.

That makes the graphics processor in a weak laptop or desktop much less important. It does not make every old computer suitable. The local machine still needs a supported operating system, enough processor and memory to run the client, hardware video decoding that works reliably, and a network connection with sufficient throughput and low latency.

No Man’s Sky is a large exploration and survival game built around procedurally generated worlds. Streaming it can avoid the local rendering load, but it cannot hide an unstable Wi-Fi connection, a slow decoder, or a service catalog that does not include the game.

Check whether your low-end PC can receive the stream

GeForce NOW’s Windows baseline

NVIDIA’s published Windows requirements apply to GeForce NOW, not to every cloud-gaming provider. They specify:

  • 64-bit Windows 10 or later
  • A dual-core 2.0 GHz processor
  • 4 GB of system memory
  • A graphics processor capable of DirectX 11

These are client requirements. Meeting them does not guarantee a perfect session, because video-decoding support, drivers, browser behavior, background applications, and network conditions can still affect the stream. If you use another service, check that provider’s own client requirements instead of treating NVIDIA’s figures as universal.

Why the Steam minimums are different

Steam’s current Windows listing gives the following minimums for running the game locally:

Component Local-play minimum What it means for cloud play
Operating system 64-bit Windows 10/11 A cloud client may have its own operating-system rules.
Processor Intel Core i3 The local CPU runs the client and decodes the stream rather than rendering the game.
Memory 8 GB RAM Cloud clients may launch with less, but the provider’s requirement takes precedence.
Graphics Nvidia GTX 1060 3 GB, AMD RX 470 4 GB, or Intel UHD Graphics 630 You do not need one of these gaming GPUs to receive a cloud stream, but you do need compatible video output and decoding.
Storage 15 GB available Cloud play normally does not require the full game installation, although the client, browser cache, and updates still need some free space.

The table describes local execution, not a promise that the same PC can use every cloud service. A machine below the local graphics requirement may still stream successfully if its client and decoder meet the service’s rules.

Test the connection before paying or installing anything

Cloud gaming is interactive video, so download speed alone is a poor predictor of playability. The route between your home and the provider’s data center, congestion, packet loss, and wireless interference can matter as much as the headline speed on your internet plan.

For GeForce NOW, NVIDIA currently recommends at least 15 Mbps for 720p at up to 60 frames per second and 25 Mbps for 1080p at 60 frames per second. It also specifies latency below 80 milliseconds to an NVIDIA data center. Those are service targets, not a guarantee for every household or game.

  • Prefer an Ethernet cable when possible.
  • If you use Wi-Fi, use the 5 GHz band and stay close to the access point.
  • Pause large downloads, cloud backups, video uploads, and other traffic during a session.
  • Run the provider’s own network test, if available, and note latency and packet-loss warnings rather than speed alone.
  • Test at the time you normally play; an afternoon result may not represent an evening connection.

A fast connection with 100 ms of latency can feel worse than a slower connection with a clean, shorter route. If the stream is consistently delayed, changing resolution will not fix the underlying distance or congestion.

Choose a service that actually offers No Man’s Sky

Xbox Cloud Gaming: the confirmed listing

The official Xbox title page identifies No Man’s Sky as cloud playable with Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate. The same listing says the game purchase is required, so do not describe this route as included at no extra cost. You need the qualifying subscription and the required game purchase under the terms shown for your market. Your internet provider may also charge its normal service fees.

Availability, account rules, supported devices, and subscription names can change by country. Open the current title page while signed in to the account you intend to use, select your market, and confirm that the cloud-play option appears before subscribing or buying anything. You also need an input method supported on your device; a controller is not automatically supplied by the cloud service.

GeForce NOW: an ownership-based route

NVIDIA describes GeForce NOW as a service that connects supported PC game stores to cloud hardware. In general, you must own or purchase a supported game through a linked store, except where a supported free-to-play title is offered under different rules.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

NVIDIA’s FAQ names Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, Xbox, and other linked stores. Store support by itself does not prove that every title in that store is playable. Search the official GeForce NOW games catalog for No Man’s Sky, then check the exact storefront and your region. If the catalog offers multiple store versions, you must own the version that the service recognizes.

Set up cloud play step by step

1. Identify your account and ownership path

  1. Decide whether you are using the Xbox route or an ownership-based service.
  2. For Xbox, open the official No Man’s Sky listing for your country and confirm the cloud-play badge, the qualifying Game Pass tier, and the stated game-purchase requirement.
  3. For GeForce NOW, sign in to the official games catalog and search for No Man’s Sky. Select the store version you own or intend to buy. Do not purchase a copy until the catalog identifies that storefront as supported for your region.
  4. Use the same account when linking the game store to the cloud service. A game owned on one account will not normally appear in a different account’s library.

2. Prepare Windows

  1. Install pending Windows updates and the latest graphics driver available for your hardware.
  2. Close unnecessary launchers, browser tabs, synchronization tools, screen recorders, and downloads.
  3. For GeForce NOW, check that the computer meets NVIDIA’s 64-bit Windows, dual-core 2.0 GHz, 4 GB memory, and DirectX 11-capable graphics baseline.
  4. Use the provider’s supported app or browser rather than an unofficial wrapper. If the app and browser behave differently, test both; the service’s current support page determines which combination is supported.

3. Connect your controls

Keyboard and mouse may be appropriate for menus and general PC-style control, while a gamepad can be more comfortable for exploration. NVIDIA explicitly lists Microsoft Xbox controllers among supported GeForce NOW gamepads. For Xbox Cloud Gaming or any other service, verify the current supported-input list for your device. Pair a Bluetooth controller before launching the session, or connect it by USB to avoid pairing and battery problems.

4. Start at a conservative stream setting

  1. Launch the service and sign in.
  2. Choose No Man’s Sky from the catalog or linked library.
  3. Begin at 720p or the service’s automatic quality mode if your connection is untested.
  4. Play for several minutes in a busy scene, move the camera quickly, and open menus. Watch for blocky video, audio breakup, delayed controls, or repeated resolution drops.
  5. Raise the stream to 1080p only after the lower setting remains stable. A lower resolution with consistent input is usually preferable to a sharper but laggy image.

5. Adjust the game after the stream is stable

Cloud service settings control the streamed image; in-game graphics options control the remote game instance. Start with the service’s recommended defaults. If the session is smooth but the image is soft, increase the stream resolution. If controls feel delayed or the picture repeatedly degrades, reduce the resolution and fix the network path before changing game graphics.

Troubleshoot the problems you are most likely to see

Symptom Likely cause What to try
The game is absent from search The title, store edition, or region is not currently supported. Check the provider’s official catalog and select the exact linked storefront. Do not rely on a store being supported in general.
The service asks you to buy the game The selected route requires ownership, or the Xbox listing requires a purchase in addition to the subscription. Review the title page and account ownership. Do not assume a subscription alone grants access.
Controls respond late High latency, a distant data center, wireless interference, or congestion. Use Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi, stop competing traffic, choose a closer available data center if the service permits it, and check whether latency is below the provider’s target.
Video becomes blurry or stutters Insufficient bandwidth, packet loss, or unstable Wi-Fi. Lower the stream resolution, move nearer to the router, switch to Ethernet, and retest when other network use is stopped.
Audio breaks up while video continues Short network interruptions or a local decoding problem. Restart the session, close CPU-heavy applications, update the graphics driver, and test a wired connection.
The client will not launch Unsupported Windows edition, missing updates, driver problems, or a blocked app. Confirm the provider’s operating-system requirements, update Windows and drivers, restart, and try the supported browser or official client.
The controller is not detected Bluetooth pairing, USB, browser-permission, or service-support issue. Pair or reconnect before launching, test USB, and verify that the provider supports that controller on your device.

Understand the cost and hardware trade-off

Cloud gaming can let you avoid buying a gaming GPU or installing the full local game, but it replaces some hardware expense with recurring access and connectivity requirements. The exact subscription fees, tier benefits, game prices, taxes, and regional eligibility are volatile, so use the live Xbox and NVIDIA account pages for the figures that apply to you.

For the Xbox route, budget for the qualifying Game Pass tier and the required purchase identified on the title page. For GeForce NOW, budget for the game in the supported store and any service tier you choose; owning the game does not by itself prove that the cloud catalog supports it.

An optional controller can improve comfort, but it is not mandatory PC hardware. A keyboard and mouse may work where the service and title support them; check the input list before buying an accessory.

Decide whether cloud gaming is right for your PC

  • Good fit: your computer is below the local GPU requirement but meets the client baseline, your connection is stable, and the official catalog confirms the game for your account and region.
  • Borderline fit: the PC meets the client minimum but has an old processor, unreliable video decoding, or congested Wi-Fi. Expect to use a lower stream resolution and troubleshoot more often.
  • Poor fit: the operating system or hardware cannot run the client, latency remains high on a wired connection, or the required storefront and region are not supported.
  • Local installation may be preferable: you need offline play, cannot maintain a stable connection, or already own hardware that meets Steam’s local minimums and want to avoid service availability and account conditions.

Use this pre-launch checklist

  1. Confirm that the official service catalog lists No Man’s Sky for your country and exact storefront.
  2. Confirm whether access requires a subscription, a game purchase, or both.
  3. Check your PC against the selected provider’s client requirements.
  4. Measure latency and stability, not just download speed.
  5. Prefer Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi and stop competing network traffic.
  6. Connect a supported controller or verify keyboard-and-mouse support.
  7. Start at 720p or automatic quality, then increase resolution only after the session is stable.
  8. If the game disappears from the catalog or a tier changes, recheck the provider’s current terms rather than relying on an old guide.
