You can play a video file from your phone on a PS4 by copying it to USB storage, or by making it available through a compatible media server on the same network. For a subscription streaming service, use its PS4 app instead. The PS4 does not offer a general-purpose feature for mirroring or casting a phone’s screen to the console.
Choose the method that matches your movie
| What you want to watch | Best route | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| A video file saved on your phone | Copy it to USB storage and open it in PS4 Media Player | A USB drive and a file the PS4 can play |
| A personal video available over your home network | Use a media server detected by PS4 Media Player | A compatible media server on the same network as the PS4 |
| A movie from a subscription or online service | Open the service’s app on the PS4 | The app must be available in your region |
| Your phone’s entire screen | No general phone-to-PS4 mirroring route is documented | Remote Play is not a substitute; it lets a phone control the console |
Play a video file copied from your phone
PlayStation documents USB storage as a way to play media on PS4. Its instructions require video files on external storage to be saved inside a folder. The phone-to-drive transfer method depends on your phone and drive; the support page does not specify one.

- Transfer the video file from your phone to USB storage using a method supported by both devices.
- Save the video inside a folder on the USB drive.
- On the PS4, download PS4 Media Player if it is not already installed, then open it.
- Connect the USB drive, select it in Media Player, and choose the video.
These steps follow PlayStation’s PS4 Media Player instructions. Those instructions do not provide a complete codec or container compatibility list, so a file copied successfully is not necessarily playable. Check compatibility for the specific video if Media Player does not open it.

For wireless playback, PS4 Media Player can detect media servers on the same network as the console. Set up a compatible server that can share your video, then open Media Player and select the server when it appears. PlayStation states that connected USB storage devices and media servers on the same network are detected and displayed automatically; server-specific setup instructions come from the server’s documentation.

Watch a streaming-service movie on PS4
If the movie is on an online service, look for that service in the PS4’s TV & Video or entertainment apps and play it there rather than trying to send the phone’s screen to the console. PlayStation describes PS4 entertainment options including YouTube, but app availability and catalogs vary by region and can change. See PlayStation’s entertainment overview for its service information.

Why Remote Play does not cast phone movies
PS Remote Play connects a phone to a PS4 or PS5 so the phone can control the console over a high-speed connection. PlayStation does not describe it as a way to cast a movie stored or playing on the phone onto a PS4. For details, see PlayStation Remote Play.
